What's Another Breed Selection Thread? Hehe.
Rebanne replied to tianakaesha's topic in General Dog Discussion
I wouldn't recommend any breed unless they have suitable fencing to contain it to a house yard. It could still roam around the farm with the kids but they need to be able to contain it at other times. -
I wouldn't be using any lubricant unless you are 100% sure it won't kill the sperm.

well done to all who made it through to today extra congratulations to the winners

you and me both

Yay for greyhound Flick and Mel, her breeder. Flick is out of Mel's Layla, who was RUBIS at the 2009 Adelaide Royal.

Do You Do Heartworm Tests Before Using Meds?
Rebanne replied to sandgrubber's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
my vets have always said you must test your dog before giving heartworm meds if the dog is over 6 months old. -
maybe he hadn't got his scones?

Please Help With Gsd Aggression.
Rebanne replied to RockDog's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The idea is to learn to read the signals your dog gives before your dog gets into the red zone so you can prevent it happening. Proactive rather then reactive. -
your kidding right? You can't seriously be suggesting that a few scones and cream is going to sway a judge in their decisions? How do you know the handler isn't a member of the club and they were asked to take the morning tea in?

what a cutie!

throw him a whole chook! I have done that before with the greyhounds when they have been on special

there is a bus from the airport to the main train station, Southern Cross, then train to the showgrounds. Not sure on costs or time but will be way cheaper than a taxi
-
greyhounds are in B block too, not that we have ever actually ended up where the list said we were going to be.

My dogs have done well on it, they don't smell and the poops are good.

good luck everyone

What Do Puppy Prices Make You Think Of Breeders?
Rebanne replied to my_sibe_owns_me's topic in General Dog Discussion
not insane at all if that's the breed you want, from the breeder who you respect and who has the lines you are after. What's wrong with buying what you want, even if it is only going to sit next to you on a chair. Why settle for something else just because there are a million dogs supposedly dying right now. Pedigree, expensive dogs also deserve a good home. No good getting something else and end up resenting it. I would hate to think how much Miller cost me to get him here, at least $3000, and he has ended up desexed and laying on the couch next to me. -
Kennel Cough + Shows + Dont Do It! Agh!
Rebanne replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am sure not every one takes a sick dog to a show on purpose. Sure there may be the odd one who couldn't care less, but if the dog is fit and well that morning how is anyone to know the dog is incubating something? If you haven't heard your dog cough, no other dogs are coughing, all seem well, you go to the show. It's not until you get home and the dog starts coughing that you are any the wiser. And no I haven't had that happen to me - yet, but I am sure others have. -
Fret not Fifi! You've still got fear and intimidation in your repertoire. Make sure to turn your Wolfie round and bait off the Group 5 dogs. :D oh lordy, I read that as BITE OFF !!! I do feel sorry for the dachies if there isn't a breed between us.....big hairy beast breathing heavily behind the wee mites !!! fifi we are often in straight after the dachies. And a grey is nowhere near as big as a wolfie. Had a few throw worried glances over their shoulders at us so we leave plenty of room.

as you have said a reward is what the dog wants, it doesn't have to be food or a toy. In the above his reward is the sniffing and peeing. Maybe try lengthening the time he has to wait between your command of quiet and the arrival of the reward. Maybe reward without the command, don't wait for him to bark. See what the training forum has to say

what a good idea!
