What Do Puppy Prices Make You Think Of Breeders?
Rebanne replied to my_sibe_owns_me's topic in General Dog Discussion
not insane at all if that's the breed you want, from the breeder who you respect and who has the lines you are after. What's wrong with buying what you want, even if it is only going to sit next to you on a chair. Why settle for something else just because there are a million dogs supposedly dying right now. Pedigree, expensive dogs also deserve a good home. No good getting something else and end up resenting it. I would hate to think how much Miller cost me to get him here, at least $3000, and he has ended up desexed and laying on the couch next to me. -
Kennel Cough + Shows + Dont Do It! Agh!
Rebanne replied to Missymoo's topic in General Dog Discussion
I am sure not every one takes a sick dog to a show on purpose. Sure there may be the odd one who couldn't care less, but if the dog is fit and well that morning how is anyone to know the dog is incubating something? If you haven't heard your dog cough, no other dogs are coughing, all seem well, you go to the show. It's not until you get home and the dog starts coughing that you are any the wiser. And no I haven't had that happen to me - yet, but I am sure others have. -
Fret not Fifi! You've still got fear and intimidation in your repertoire. Make sure to turn your Wolfie round and bait off the Group 5 dogs. :D oh lordy, I read that as BITE OFF !!! I do feel sorry for the dachies if there isn't a breed between us.....big hairy beast breathing heavily behind the wee mites !!! fifi we are often in straight after the dachies. And a grey is nowhere near as big as a wolfie. Had a few throw worried glances over their shoulders at us so we leave plenty of room.

as you have said a reward is what the dog wants, it doesn't have to be food or a toy. In the above his reward is the sniffing and peeing. Maybe try lengthening the time he has to wait between your command of quiet and the arrival of the reward. Maybe reward without the command, don't wait for him to bark. See what the training forum has to say

Advice Please On Cat Introductions For A Wgsd Rescue
Rebanne replied to ~Shepherd~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
no lots of dogs aren't cat tested but this family has had huge tramua happen to it. You only need to muzzle the dog and have it on lead while around the cat. It is usually only for a few days to make sure the dog won't kill the cat. The dog still might show interest, that's when bolt holes and crates and vigilant supervision become the main defence. And when I say show interest, I mean wants to play roughly etc. -
KB I think you missed the fact that their are 2 dogs being left and they sometimes growl at each other over things like bones so leaving dry food around may also cause a problem. So saying that, over many years, I have previously left multiple dogs in the yard with marrow bones with never a problem. But with my current mix I could not leave them with fresh bones, but I can leave them with bones they have all had a nibble on prior. So when I know I will be gone for the day, I might chuck out several marrow bones the day before and let them have a chew, one at a time. Once that "freshness" is gone they are not so important to the dogs so no squabbles. I would exercise them and feed them before you left and leave it at that. it's not every day and you have already seen they sleep a lot of it.

Advice Please On Cat Introductions For A Wgsd Rescue

all the more reason to get this dog fostered with some one with cats first IMO. So you have an idea of how he'll react. Are these new people experienced with dogs, have the cats lived with dogs before? -

muzzle and lead, lead alone won't save the cat if the dog lunges, you have no idea how quick things can happen until it happens to you. Since one of their cats has already been killed by dogs shouldn't you at least cat test this one? It's a positive it doesn't react to the ferret but..... I had a foster here who was bound and determined to kill the cats yet went on to live very happily with free range chooks. So you can't always tell how they will react to different species. I would never expose my cats to an unknown dog in the house without a muzzle and lead on the dog. Plus lots of bolt holes for the cat. -
Fern can tip them over. She leans on the side and over they go. I have to peg them down.

okay I freely admit I don't get many calls asking about prices of greyhound puppies but I am sure there are great homes out there for pups with people whose initial reaction to hearing the price would be a shocked intake of breath. So many people would have no idea what goes into raising pups properly. What costs are involved. So many would think it is just breeding two dogs together and if they thought about costs they most likely would just add up what they think it would cost to feed a pup for a couple of weeks times however many pups there are. Cause the bitch feeds them for at least 6 weeks right When the price is explained to them, call it justifying or not, they might then realise what a bargain they are getting and ring you back. People, especially the 1st time registered puppy buyer, often don't have a clue. They have seen prices in the pet shops and papers and that is their only guidance, because most breeders don't have their prices on their web sites. Being shocked when 1st told the price does not mean they will be bad homes.

Question For Breeders About Pet Stores.

maybe because those puppies who 'breeders' sold to his pet shop weren't exactly in a loving family enviroment? -
Question For Breeders About Pet Stores.
Rebanne replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
We recorded every dog coming in and every dog going out. When ever there were problems we notified the breeder and they took appropriate action. If they didn't we didn't buy from them again. Yes, we would offer as much help and advise as possible and we got our vet involved too. All our pups came with a guarantee. so if there was a problem, you handballed it back to the 'breeder'? What was your guarantee? -
yes, as much as I love Fern and she loves me she loves my daughter's partner much more and will probably end up living with them. Fern totally and utterly loves Adam, she bloody nearly drools all over him when they visit!

so what happened to the ones you couldn't sell, how long did you keep them for, where did they go at night, what stimulation was provided for them? -

never ever would I sell or give any pup I bred to a pet shop. I would give them to a reputable rescue if need be or PTS. -
really curious on how the vet would know what the pups Mum looked like when you said in another thread you got her from a pet shop :D

get a letter from your vet who can state the tooth was lost due to an accident ( if that is what happened), then you can show it to the judge if there are any questions
