  1. You love to attack, but fail again to deal in reality. Don't you feel even a bit silly for your first attack on me which was all assumption on your part and all wrong? So here you go again and you are wrong again. Read this..... I have never said that breeders should not test, nor ever questioned if testing should be done. You are yet again accusing me of things that are in your mind only and not real. So lets see if you can apologies this time for attacking me for something I have not said. Now if we can be in real world for a few seconds and get out of Pedigree Dogs Exposed Relived. I notice you did not answer if you are a breeder of Cavs or any breed or even own this breed? If you really are breeding Cavs, You said that the offspring should be screened and cull the affected 1 in 4 offspring. When do you screen all your pups you produce? How old are the pups when you do this/what is the youngest age they can be screened? Do you do this prior to placing them so the owners know their pup is not affected? What is it costing you to do this per pup? Are in fact 1 in 4 of your puppies affected? Is this 1 in 4 rate consistent across all of your bloodlines, another words do you have any line that has not produced at the 1 in 4 rate? These are questions that deserve answers if you expect anyone to listen to you about how to breed cavs. Shortstep if this is a serious question the answer obviously is that You scan dogs which you have selected for breeding prior to breeding and if they are not A discard them If breeders are only breeding certified A then there is a 75 percent chance that the dog you have selected from these matings is an A as it comes from two A parents. Some will need to be culled and disappoint which were considered but a minority only Without reservation this is preferable to potluck Jessie it would be very nice if you could actually answer the questions shortstop has asked. What age do you test the puppies, do you keep them all until after the have tested clear or do you sell them to families prior to testing? What compensation do you give to familes if their pup is the 1 in 4?
  2. it was a real problem with my first greyhound and he had plenty of meaty bones, I tried everything over the years, he had mutliple dentals with teeth removal and what worked best was removing all the teeth he had left. Mouth cleaned up beautifully. Also had a cat that did wonderfully after having all his teeth removed after going under 3 times in 6 weeks. It was the success of the cat that prompted me to say enough is enough, take his teeth out, for poor old Sam
  3. so sorry to read this. One of my friends went through the same thing, dog was older, just didn't seem quite right, huge mass found. It's never easy to lose your best friend but when it's so unexpected................ At least Sophie had her Mum with her, to do the right thing by her Rest easy now Sophie
  4. go back to basics and take her out frequently, has she got a uti? but that doesn't explain the pooping
  5. prefix Dreams Of Nala eta Circle Of life
  6. Google Millers, they make muzzles etc. Think they are in Melbourne but they post out
  7. I had my Piper back to the vet today. He's an older dog who also stopped eating. Younger vet last week said poss heart problem. Gave him frusemide, only difference I saw was his peeing in the house! Insisted todays, older, vet examined Piper in the car to start with so an accurate listening of his heart was able to occur. Then we went inside for the rest. Conclusion: Piper had a viral infection 4 weeks ago, he stopped eating cause he had a sore throat. He still produces the odd cough but is now eating better and has regained weight. Still produces a cough occasionally but basically in fine heatlh, give it another couple of weeks, keep up the softish food and come back only if the lack of eating is still a problem, then we could think about further examinations. I hope yours is something as simple even though my stress levels have been highly increased this last week worrying about possible heart problems.
  8. you need to get your child allergy health tested first and foremost. My GP was convinced my daughter, many years ago, was allergic to the pets. They had to be the cause of her problems ;) boy did I have the last laugh when the test showed she was actually allergic to rye, no animals at all. Cut the rye out of her diet and hey presto, allergic reactions all gone Mind you we only went to rye bread etc cause the naturopath said to.
  9. they sure as hell bother me as they are the only ones rushing fences on boundaries where I walk. The very nasty cattle dog is behind a side gate, up the drive way, across the road and 30 metres from the bike path I am walking on. So I and my dogs can ignore him, the small ones who are trying to get through or over the fence to attack me and mine are a nightmare, while I am trying to get to and from the walking track.
  10. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=208746 dogs are not allowed to rush fences
  11. Your bitch might not need a caesar next time, lots of bitches have normal births after having a caeser. Did they vet tell you your girl will need a caesar next time? Re the prog testing you need to start a bit earlier than 9 days as some bitches can be ready for mating then, each bitch is different and some are different every cycle. Bitches can be tricky. They also don't guarentee a succesful pregnancy, just makes the chances a lot more in your favour.
  12. Oh good god, that's ridiculous. If someone's really scared of dogs, then me walking my girl past them on a leash could "cause fear". That's their problem, it shouldn't be made into ours. I read it the opposite way, all those nasty little mongrels that rush at you while you are walking past their front yard. You should be able to go for a walk without having to plan your trip to get past these ferals safely.
  13. so where are your answers to the OP questions? If you can't answer the questions why be in this thread at all except to sh!t stir? All those so keen to say other people are being "bad" without actually responding to the OP are no different to those they are accusing. Reading posts made by these rude, condescending people would be enough to scare people off. I can answer the questions, or suggest people who can answer better than I can. You are correct, I came not to "shit stir" but to put another point of view. Some only entered the thread, not to give advice, but to abuse the poster. How are they better than I? And you did give advice. Some breeders are all so exclusive and marvellous that no one else can do it, or is sure to get it wrong,so you drive them off. And that means less competition at shows which is what you want. What you are all too foolish to realise is that you are effectively ending your breed. No one asked this person anything about the dogs. For all any of you knew, they might have been champions with titles in four countries. if you could answer the questions why didn't you? I didn't see any abuse. Yep would love to drive my competition off, how laughable, I have had to breed my own competition until very recently

All those so keen to say other people are being "bad" without actually responding to the OP are no different to those they are accusing. Reading posts made by these rude, condescending people would be enough to scare people off. Yes, you're correct. The reason I didn't respond to the OP's questions is because I am not a breeder and never intend to be. I am just a dog lover and owner of two purebred boys, so I am not qualified to give my opinion. But the manner in which some of the experts answer, and not just in this particular post but others in the past is sending a message to the naive in these matters not to ask silly questions and that truely is putting them off. I don't believe there was any sh!t stirring going on and again I repeat,if you don't ask, you don't learn. yet you see fit to lecture other people on how they respond. You don't think that is off putting either? As far as I see it the thread was fine until a few non breeders got their knickers in a knot and decided some of the breeders weren't playing nicely so everyone got a lecture on how to play nice.
  15. Sorry about your boy Sezling I've never had to worry about feeding an old dog anything different before than what they have eaten all their life. But Piper has refused quite a few different foods lately, so if "junk" food keeps him happy, junk food he can have. At least the chicken wings are healthier.

  17. I have to say I am a bit sick of the bashing that some people have done in this thread. Really, most answers were fine and civil, one person suggested a troll and goodness knows we have had plenty of them here but this thread has been totally railroaded into a "oh don't scare off the newbie you big nasty breeder types" when it wasn't warrented.
  18. I don't need it for the joint extra's though they won't hurt. I have an older dog who is on the skinny side but I don't want to feed the working dog formula's for the extra fat because of the high protein levels. Blood work has come back ok. Piper has gone off his food to a certain extent so I am trying him on different things. He is enjoying the tin food and dog rolls stuff I have bought. Must think all his Christmas' have come at once cause I never normally feed that. He is eating supercoat sensitive at the moment as long as I don't give him too much and chicken wings. He's lost around 3 or 4 kilos. I am now feeding him 4 times a day, small meals cause he won't eat his normal size. Vet thinks he might have a heart problem but he's very hard to examine due to his extreme reaction to being at the vet, we'll go back next week and see if we can get a better listen by examining him in the car. Vet suspects fluid build up and he's started on a short course of frusemide. The vets have advance senior, will have a look at the bag next week.
  19. what is a good dry food for an older dog but is not a "light" food? Most senior or mature dry food seems to be also for weight control which is not needed.
  20. Do you really need to keep available 4 full siblings? That's how I would look at it.
  21. I asked for photos, colour and age... I.e seeked more information as you suggested ;) Oh, and Invited them to the Boxer forum that was the problem boxagirl you invited them to the Boxer forum but didn't provide a link, very nawty of you. :D eta Boxer Forum
  22. I don't think peoples responses were particularly inviting. Everyone jumped on the registered, pedigree bit pretty quick! Who knows maybe her boxers were registered and now they'be been scared off which is a shame since they could have learnt so much. I never mentioned it.
  23. You will need to do any relevent health tests on the pair; it would be helpful if the breeder of one of your dogs would mentor you; if they are not able, another breeder; make a friend of your vet, you may be seeing a lot of them; read everything and I mean everything, you can about dog breeding, the good the bad and the ugly. Google and Youtube can be handy but nothing beats hands on help.
  24. Fern's breeder told me her lines don't come into season until at least 16 months. Fern came in 1st at 16 1/2 months. Out of the 7 intact bitches in Fern's litter all came in around/after the 16 month mark bar one who did come in at around 12 months. This was a first for the breeder Fern cycles every 10 months, as does her sister in Adelaide. Fern's daughter is yet to have her 1st season and is now 21 months old and lives with other bitches, one of which has just had a litter. So yes I believe seasons etc can be influenced by "family lines"
