My dogs get lots of looks when we are out and about, people are always surprised how soft their coats are, even people who show other breeds had no idea a greyhounds coat could be so soft. When my friend and I used to have our coffee mornings, they always turned into huge meet and greet with many people wanting to know more. My greys lived in town with 3 cats, hers on a farm with cattle. We showed that greyhounds can and are adaptable. We handed out many, many cards for GAP. Of course most people knew they were greyhounds but had no idea they could be good pets. I am proud to say that my friend and I have educated a lot of people to the wonderfulness of greyhounds

Toilet Training - Am I Missing Something?
Rebanne replied to Kirty's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've never had any trouble toilet training greyhounds, they are very clean dogs usually. Occasionally you will get one that takes a bit longer to get the idea but that is because of the dog itself, not the breed. -
Yeah, that's not going to work ... well you didn't say you wouldn't be able to get it in his mouth and that's the most common way to adminster it. It can be placed on his skin but it is not as effective.

your own property often runs up to a public footpath, my dogs love sniffing the corner posts of my fence which other dogs have peed on. No way I would lock a pup up in the backyard for weeks waiting for the vacination to kick in. I always take them out to the front yard to get them used to different things passing by such as the garbage trucks. It's a calculated risk that each and every owner has to decide for themselves.

half a dropper every few minutes to start with, then increase the time bewteen doses as he relaxes. Just squirt it direct into his mouth.

Latest News On Syringomyelia In Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.

You love to attack, but fail again to deal in reality. Don't you feel even a bit silly for your first attack on me which was all assumption on your part and all wrong? So here you go again and you are wrong again. Read this..... I have never said that breeders should not test, nor ever questioned if testing should be done. You are yet again accusing me of things that are in your mind only and not real. So lets see if you can apologies this time for attacking me for something I have not said. Now if we can be in real world for a few seconds and get out of Pedigree Dogs Exposed Relived. I notice you did not answer if you are a breeder of Cavs or any breed or even own this breed? If you really are breeding Cavs, You said that the offspring should be screened and cull the affected 1 in 4 offspring. When do you screen all your pups you produce? How old are the pups when you do this/what is the youngest age they can be screened? Do you do this prior to placing them so the owners know their pup is not affected? What is it costing you to do this per pup? Are in fact 1 in 4 of your puppies affected? Is this 1 in 4 rate consistent across all of your bloodlines, another words do you have any line that has not produced at the 1 in 4 rate? These are questions that deserve answers if you expect anyone to listen to you about how to breed cavs. Shortstep if this is a serious question the answer obviously is that You scan dogs which you have selected for breeding prior to breeding and if they are not A discard them If breeders are only breeding certified A then there is a 75 percent chance that the dog you have selected from these matings is an A as it comes from two A parents. Some will need to be culled and disappoint which were considered but a minority only Without reservation this is preferable to potluck Jessie it would be very nice if you could actually answer the questions shortstop has asked. What age do you test the puppies, do you keep them all until after the have tested clear or do you sell them to families prior to testing? What compensation do you give to familes if their pup is the 1 in 4? -
it was a real problem with my first greyhound and he had plenty of meaty bones, I tried everything over the years, he had mutliple dentals with teeth removal and what worked best was removing all the teeth he had left. Mouth cleaned up beautifully. Also had a cat that did wonderfully after having all his teeth removed after going under 3 times in 6 weeks. It was the success of the cat that prompted me to say enough is enough, take his teeth out, for poor old Sam

Chronic Lack Of Appetite - Now Choking Noises?
Rebanne replied to Stitch's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had my Piper back to the vet today. He's an older dog who also stopped eating. Younger vet last week said poss heart problem. Gave him frusemide, only difference I saw was his peeing in the house! Insisted todays, older, vet examined Piper in the car to start with so an accurate listening of his heart was able to occur. Then we went inside for the rest. Conclusion: Piper had a viral infection 4 weeks ago, he stopped eating cause he had a sore throat. He still produces the odd cough but is now eating better and has regained weight. Still produces a cough occasionally but basically in fine heatlh, give it another couple of weeks, keep up the softish food and come back only if the lack of eating is still a problem, then we could think about further examinations. I hope yours is something as simple even though my stress levels have been highly increased this last week worrying about possible heart problems. -
you need to get your child allergy health tested first and foremost. My GP was convinced my daughter, many years ago, was allergic to the pets. They had to be the cause of her problems ;) boy did I have the last laugh when the test showed she was actually allergic to rye, no animals at all. Cut the rye out of her diet and hey presto, allergic reactions all gone Mind you we only went to rye bread etc cause the naturopath said to.

they sure as hell bother me as they are the only ones rushing fences on boundaries where I walk. The very nasty cattle dog is behind a side gate, up the drive way, across the road and 30 metres from the bike path I am walking on. So I and my dogs can ignore him, the small ones who are trying to get through or over the fence to attack me and mine are a nightmare, while I am trying to get to and from the walking track.
