Heartworm Injections, Affordable Vet?
Rebanne replied to daina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
no you don't, in fact I only give my dogs heartworm treatment every 6 weeks. I mark it on the calander -
yes been out and about for a bit now

That's exactly why I socialised the heck out of my boys when they were puppies. They don't care if they get rushed as long as the dogs aren't going to kill them. Takes a lot of the anxiety out of getting them out of the yard. not the point, you should be able to walk your dog along a foot path without being rushed. Mine ar enice socialble dogs as well but being rushed by 5 offlead dogs would intimidate me let alone the dogs. And you have no way of knowing if you or your dogs are about to be bitten.
-
well lets hope you reported it then cause if you didn't you are condoning it
-
your kidding right? Other people do not do this, this is not what is done by normal thinking dog owners. Damn right condemn the person who took a harmless training method and twisted it into something unforgivable.
-
can't be bothered with the hysterics
-
maybe you should stop being so judgemental and wait until you see how it is done, properly, than you can make an informed decision.

I don't know if it could hurt a toy dog or not but personally I would never give an adult human dose to such a small dog. I was happy to give an adult dose of folic acid to a 32 kilo dog.
-
I would grind/break them up and give about 1/4 a day
-
it is not something I would put up on a public forum

Desexing may be good in early stages but I dont know about "culling"puppies when they are born unless they have some terrible defects and a vet does it! This is cruel. If you care for animals and it sound like you do then dont cull at birth unless advised by a vet for medical reasons. Good luck with it all. Not at all cruel. You leave 2 or 3 pups for the Mum's sake and rescue isn't burdened with even more unwanted animals.

I completely agree. It is revolting to think this used as a "training" method. Also it is absolutely unnecessary. What on earth is wrong with using treats to get the pup to love all training ? In the case of table training use the treat to "walk" the puppy a step or two. They are not thrown off the table nor do they fall off the table. They are just taught consequences for their actions, ie stepping backwards.

Yeah for Paige and Claire -
20 mins of on leash walking at 2 -3 months old is too much. By all means, once he is comfortable with the leash, walk him past a couple of houses and back again but be careful of doing too much too soon. he'll grow up quick enough
-
try putting the leash on and following him around the back yard rather than have him follow you, giving him praise/treats as he moves around. Attach a piece of light rope, without any loops so it can't get caught up, put his food down a few feet away and let him drag the rope over to the bowl. Let him drag the rope around the house and yard, with supervision for a couple of days. Get him to come to you for a reward off lead 1st, then add a lead into the equation. You do realise that it could be some months before your dog can be exercised for long periods of time?
-
They are 9 years old. Would be very very hard to change anything now. Dog 1 is boss and maybe you need to accept that
-
then I suggest you stop posting what you don't know about
-
of course

desex her if you can, if not cull the pups at birth to only 2 or 3, then surrender those pups when old enough to a good rescue.

How Long Can I Leave The Bandage On

well it didn't matter in the end because as soon as the dressing was removed, one shake of the head and blood was everywhere again. Fern is having the edges of her ear blanket stitched this morning. -
