so they are Animal Rescue Queensland then? Needs to be very clear who they are so more innocent people and dogs are not hurt by them and their very careless actions. Total disregard for others and their beloved dogs. It's groups like this that will make governments bring in very tough laws to control rescue. -

Champion Class- Should We Have A Seperate Class?
Rebanne replied to Stolzseinrotts's topic in General Dog Discussion
and what about when you are the only one entered 98 % of the time? It's got to be reasonably fair to all breeds. If I had to travel to Queensland or WA to compete against others I would never show ever again. I certainly don't have the time, space or money to keep a kennel full of dogs so they can compete against each other, "creating majors". -

yep keep the poor pup alive, suffering, just to keep your reputation intact, spend big dollars on saving one, who might not come out of this 100 %, spread the disease round willy nilly and blame others, yay for you the rescue group, doing such a sterling job there. eta not directed a varicool in case someone thinks it was -

personally, instead of spending huge amounts of $ on this pup and asking for donations I would be giving the poor little mite it's wings. And when are some rescue's going to take responsibilty for their actions -
Hard to convey your tone but what do you mean EVEN pound animals? I take it to mean that in the overall scheme of things, priority and precedence should be given towards purebred, registered animals over byb animals and pound dogs. I would not condone ANY dog or cat be released from a pound undesexed. End of story. The bone growth has to be a secondary consideration. Yes, large pound animals do deserve a chance to grow correctly, but not at the risk of them having the ability to reproduce upon release/adoption, that would be grossly irresponsible and not under the ethos of "rescue". way off base here why even try to answer a question asked of me? personally I would never buy an early desexed animal from the pound or a breeder. Just because I understand the reasons some places/people/breeders do early desexing doesn't mean I agree with it.

Hard to convey your tone but what do you mean EVEN pound animals? I was responding to post 22 where it was said it didn't really matter how a dog from the pound grew as most of them were mutt's and no one would know if they grew differently from early desexing. so I mean exactly what I said.

I can see their point very clearly. The vast majority of dogs sold are not, or should not be bred from. Most of them going through shelters and pounds are mutts, and an incorrect growth rate on them won't matter much (it's not like you know what they'll grow up to look like), and is in fact much less of a worry than the very high chance of them having a litter of more mutts. And any breeds in danger of ending up as breeding fodder in puppy farms.......poodles, maltese, pugs, shih-tzu, bichons etc, are probably best desexed before being sold unless the breeder is 110% certain of the puppies future. I can completely understand early desexing in these cases and it's a matter of weighing up the chances of the dog being bred from in the future (high), vs the chances of the dog having some spey-related growth or health issues later in life (low). I worked in a RSPCA shelter for 10 years and it was only in the last year or so that I worked there that early desexing came in. Before that they were given a voucher, for dogs (and cats) over 6 months the dog had to be desexed within one month, for pups ( and kittens) the voucher had 6 months on it. Compliance was at nearly 100%, there was the very odd one that went over the time but they were rare and there was maybe one or two that didn't in the ten years I worked there. And when I say didn't at all, I mean the voucher was not presented. Even pound animals deserve a chance to grow correctly.

proof please and to the original poster no your bitch does not need a litter to settle her down

yep I'm another one waiting and watching

the OP was given that particular breeders critera with an invite to call the breeder. Instead they came here ranting about how bad the breeder was which turned into a general free for all bash the breeder thread - again! All breeders will have different critera, there is no one size fits all. Some will sell to homes that others wouldn't touch with a barge pole. No good coming on here moaning and groaning that a breeder didn't reply to me sob sob. Move on to the next one. Just because they are on DOL does not mean they are the best or the most ethical. Plenty of breeders don't advertise on here. Look for breed clubs. Ring your state canine body. Keep asking and yes be prepared to sell your self.

I've always sold myself to breeders, going back over 30 years now. Always done my best to show them that I was worthy of one of their pups. Told them my plans, my aims, my dreams. I don't see why it should be different today.
