  4. enjoy the weekend everyone, I've been burning the candle at both ends a bit so am staying home to catch up
  5. it happens :p at the OVCC shows I said nothing down before 2pm but when we got there at 10.30 there was already a gazebo plonked down. ;) as we put up the rings, people were putting down tarps, what can you do I wasn't going to go around telling people to wait, I had enough to do, there was no one spare to be a tarp nazi.
  6. doesn't Jean Dodds say it's only 3 days after a vaccination is given then the pups are good to go?
  7. I'm happy just to show at the Royal, I consider it a good day out, though very tiring, and us greyhound people use it for a good catch up! Might be 10 or more at this years if everyone can come.
  8. Was that you who had the dog with the damaged tail stump and you got heaps of advice? How is that going now? the tail was re docked and healed, apparently, but the show career might be a be hit and miss as it seems the colour of the dog is a bit lacking ( according to ng6 in a show thread )
  9. What a nasty person. Don't need any more of them in Offtopic. or anywhere else really there are several forum's on this site I rarely venture into, same as many others, we don't need access blocked, nor do we feel the need to go in and slam someone else. I think that might be because we are actually adults
  10. argh yes, been waiting for this one to show her true colours, just been hiding under the top layer
  11. tell them to keep an eye on your website and that it is pointless to continually keep contacting you until there is a confirmed litter. Maybe they are just being super keen and think if they are in your face all the time they will get 1st pick. Also tell them you always choose which pup goes to which home as you know the pups best and there is no guarantee of working ability.
  12. Indeed. To be significant however, we're going to need a sample size greater than one person's experiences... It kind of similar to what cigarette companies do, in that they claim that because they know of someone who smoked and didn't die from it, cigarettes can't possibly be bad for you. Yay for scientific method to help us see the forest from the trees. wow how rude you are.
  13. personally I had more trouble with ear complaints with my GSD's then I have had with my greyhounds
  14. how do the rings run? ring 1 closest to the canteen, then 2, then 3 up the far end or the other way around? We are entered but not sure if we are actually coming
  15. if you do have to make the decision to put the dog down then tell your daughter the truth. Kids cope very well. They cry for a bit then get on with life. My daughter was only 5 and it was her first day at school, her granddad was in hospital and our 7 month old pup had to be put down. The only thing I didn't tell her was I made the choice, I just said the dog had died. Hopefully you'll get a good outcome though
  16. me too Trish, hope it's not bad news for you
  17. No, actually, they're a place for snarky people, particularly those who were, apparently, BORN knowing everything about dogs,so they didn't have to learn from experience, to have a go at newbies Just LOVE how everyone is making assumptions here. yes it's a place to ask questions but you also need to do your own research about certain things which includes reading up about entire dogs and bitches and their possible behaviour before things like a first season crop up. Ideally you would have then had a plan in place to cope with your current problem. It would be nigh on impossible to get either into a kennel now, at least one that was any good. No one is born knowing anything about dogs but you teach yourself and yes that can be by asking questions on a forum but basic knowledge should have been self taught. Keep one or the other in a crate at all times, whether that is in the same room as each other while you are there, or in a seperate room. Do not leave them in the same room even if crated without you being there as dogs can and do break out of crates, particuarly when the incentive is so great. Also be aware that the bitch may well want him as much as he wants her. It's not just the male you have to be aware of. Ask your breeder if it is at all possible for her to take one, mind you if a puppy buyer asked me my answer would most likely be no as I don't have unlimited space and have my other dogs and cats to think of.
  18. I hope that's a typo, it's 63 days from ovulation.
  19. my crate trained dogs stress big time at the vet's. The 2 dogs I have, out of 4, that were never crate trained both love sleeping in the crate in my bedroom and when Piper cut his foot and had to come to 2 days of shows for me he settled right down in a soft crate. I have 7 crates, only one up permamenly in my room, all the others are for the one or two dogs I take to a show I use baby gates in the house more.
  20. what are they like on the hand?
