Why Do Sighthounds Tend To Be Timid/sensitive?
Rebanne replied to corvus's topic in General Dog Discussion
Can't be supported because there's no data on that or can't be supported because its factually inaccurate. There are a handful of non-racing grey breeders in this country. Might be one idea to run to ground... it's not only nature that determines temperament but nuture as we all know. If the origin and early environment of dogs is a significant determinant of their temperament, seems to me that needs to be addressed before making any conclusions about their breed. But hey, I'm not a scientist. and I'm one of them and my recent litter of 8 was the first in the country for 22 months. There has been another litter recently born, so we woul have around 100 at the most non race bred greys in Aus and most of them could be accounted for. -

The number of pet greyhounds from non-racing backgrounds is not likely to be significant IMO. I would state for a fact that most of the greyhounds in the survey were from a racing background and were not raised as pets from the get go. Only comparable to other breeds raised on rearing farms. -

I think people have responded very moderately to what was a rather inflammatory question. If you posted that question into some of the OFC sighthound groups you'd be eaten alive. it was such a stupid statement which has been borne out by the fact that the majority of dogs in the sample were one breed and could only have been adopted racebred greys, which is hardly a similar background to other breeds. -

I suggest you find another breed, all your posts are very negative, the dogs don't need you bad mouthing them everywhere.

In Victoria, greyhounds are not allowed off lead, not even off leash dog areas. Only places they are allowed off lead is private property. People need to know their local laws.

My daughter lives in a town house with her 8 yo grey and they all manage very well. Quite a few live in apartments, they do very well. I wouldn't sell a puppy to someone living in an apartment but the older dogs are fine. I take mine to the local slipping track or dog grounds for a run, or walk them around the streets for exercise. They certainly don't go nuts if they haven't been out for a few days but they do enjoy an outing.

what sort of clips Liath? I want to make one to take to shows as well but I need to overlap a couple of panels for each side which makes it hard to make a roof. Anyone put shadecloth or similar on as a roof? I was thinking of also putting a floor in out of shadecloth so making it harder for a dog leaning on the panels to move it out of shape, but not sure how to join it seeing as one panel will be the gate.

so prolife that the dog is allowed to run loose while in season. It is only be good luck that the dog is alive and well. I asked before and I'll ask again. If she has to be tied outside on a chain because of the small amount of mess made whilst in season just where is this poor bitch going to whelp and raise her puppies? Religion is not an excuse to neglect your duty of care.

not good enough

most likely not but he has a point, why should breeders be the only ones required to health test and be at risk of being prosecuted if they sell a pup that ends up with a health problem?
-
So you not only allow your dog to piss on people you allow him to bother people who are scared of dogs. Great, really responsible dog ownership that us.
