  1. the dog is being judged against it's standard, that is all. If there is only one dog of the breed entered then the judge has to be happy to sign the certificate. If there are 2 or more entered, then the judge chooses the one closest to the standard, in their opinion, as the winner. It's that simple. Or should be. And like it or not there are plenty of dogs that won't win a BIG for reasons other then not being good enough as well as plenty who do win when they should not. So, no matter what rules abide, not every one will agree on what is a worthy Ch or Gr Ch. I know I am happy with my breed and if that means all their wins will be 6 pointers then so be it. I show the breed I love to live with and would never change to another just to win ( or lose ) against more entries in the ring.
  2. well said. The sire of my last litter was only very rarely shown before going to a pet home and is not titled, he is stunning and the litter is very promising.
  3. So with a breed like mine (Basset Fauve De Bretagne) where there are currently less than 10 being shown reasonably regularly between Townsville and Melbourne our challenges shouldn't count UNTIL we compete against others of our breed? I've travelled for competition and LOVE competition (even when my girls lose) but at the moment unless I travel the only competition my girls get is each other. ETA or should they count only when they also win a class in group? Or only when they win group? There IS no perfect answer to any of these problems. No matter which way the ANKC goes people are going to be pissed off. Don't worry Trisven, do what I did and breed your own competition Not all of us live near the showing centres or have the money or time to go chasing competition. Particularly when there is no competiton within cooee to chase. ETA as for getting a 25 point Challenge would have to move overseas to have any hope of that.
  4. well I think that's a bit disappointing. I realise the smaller breeds would be mature by 12 months of age but all the others, mine included, are being judged on potenial. It would be unrealistic to wait, for any breed, to be fully mature, in my breed we would be waiting for the boys to be at least 4 :D , but I think 25 points after 12 months was reasonable. Actually it wouldn't bother me if the age was put up to 18 months but I suspect I would be in the minority
  5. don't you think that is a bit rude to some of the GR Ch that got their title under the old (new) system. Not the dogs fault or the handlers that they won under the rules of the day. They can't have all been undeserving surely
  6. yeah it's fine. If worried feed a couple frozen together but my greys, all ages, get them at times.
  7. I don't have a Gr Champion ( yet! :D ) but as I only show one dog at a time why not continue with my one dog? Showing is my hobby. I am just starting out with my new baby puppy and I will show him for as long as we both enjoy it. The plan is it will be another 4 years before I get my next dog, should I stay at home if my current dog gets his Grand before then? ( not that it is likely ). If the current dog was within striking distance of getting his Gr when the next pup is here I would continue on until the Gr was acheived then reevaluate.
  8. Thanks for the thanks guys but it wasn't what I did, it's what the club did in return, totally unexpected and a very pleasant surprise.
  9. to the people from the Holbrook Show Society There was a call for more entries for their show, I sent a small donation so they wouldn't have to pay any fees on it and they sent me back a nice little thank you card ( along with the reciept ). It's made my day :D I wasn't thinking of anything but helping to keep one of our smaller shows up and running. :D
  10. been here before you mean, oh well you will be found out

well it does matter to the child and family what happened but basically I agree, another dog dead cause it was owned by a moron, that allowed it to wander, another blow against the dog world in general and bull breeds in particular
  12. the bloody big wrench was in regards to the dog attack on a toddler. If you think that is too harsh so be it. If I had have hold of the wrench and it was my baby being attacked I wouldn't have stopped until the dog was dead and I make no apologies for that. As for your opinion of me, who cares what you think, certainly not I.
  13. and I am to be worried you don't think I am caring enough
  14. in simple terms, your dog has to be over 6 months old before it can win points and to win the points it need to win either bitch or dog challenge. Then it dpends on how many of it's own sex they defeated on how many points they get. If they win best of breed they get points for all the dogs of the same breed they defeated, not counting baby puppies. Clear as mud :D
  15. really? and you know this how? Because ''we'' consider genuine, responsible breeders conduct themselves in a similar caring, patient & benevolent behavior as ''we'' do. Try it. It works. and you are?
  16. how can this parvo be any worse then any other time unless it is a new strain in which case the current vaccination would not be any good against it?
  17. No floor in my whelping box either, just lino and a couple of tarps from the $2 shop. ETA and a heap of newspaper under the vet bed. I used the rubber backed vet bed, also from Peperone, cheap postage Trisven!. I haven't had any of the green back so can't compare. I use my vet bed in the car and as mats in the house as well.

who would know what the dogs intentions were, I'd have hit it with a bloody big wrench as well. Bottom line is the dog has caused harm to a person ( a 12 month old! ), is obviously a habitual roamer and is owned by a moron and will pay with his life. One of the stories has the baby in a pram, makes it a bit harder for a dog to accidently scratch him.
  19. I'm entering her at Cranbourne, whether we actually come or not will depend on the weather so we may meet sooner rather then later. :D Fern is being a bit of a princess but she'll get over it!
  20. I feel your pain. With my new boy I am having to change my wardrobe to suit him.
  21. sorry about the miscarriage but what happens to your puppy, if you get one, when you fall pregnant again? seeing as how you gave up the idea so quickly last time.
