  1. Ok so he is now 7 weeks old? And settling a little bit? Personally I would have him in a crate in my bedroom so I can hear him when he gets restless and needs the toilet. But up to you. I've raised pups who slept in the bathroom as young 'uns and one who never slept inside until after she was spayed, and they all turned out ok. Ideas change over the years. I would be feeding him again after 5.30. I always liked to give my pups a raw chicken wing as their last meal at bedtime. At this age I would be giving 4 meals a day if possible, dropping down to 3 at around 12 weeks and 2 meals by 16 weeks (but still with a last thing at night snack for another month or two). Do you take him to the toilet when he stirs at 11.30 ish? You say he's not your first dog but maybe the youngest you have had? So excuse me if I am repeating stuff you know. Ask your vet about puppy school. You both may benefit. He's very cute. I have a soft spot for cattle dogs.
  2. You need to take a step Snook. You are being very judgemental and also extremely hurtful with your words.
  3. I try not to judge people for not being able to stay with their pets. Or those that can't cope with their dying parent.
  4. Knox has always had a good reputation. As you go higher up in classes yes they can be more geared to competition as in they might want better heeling, more straight sits etc but you can tell them your aims and a good club and instructors will work with that. But a therapy dog does need very good obedience so I don't see why a club that wants to help people get to competition level wouldn't suit you both.
  5. Too young to be sold but what's done is done. How long are you away for work and where do you leave him? You need to get him a heat source. I like the snuggle safe disk as there are no wires to chew and it holds warmth for up to 10 hours. While he is too young really for big chew bones a raw marrow bone may give him some comfort to suck on. I'm not sure if a small kong stuffed with some food would work at this age either. It would be best if someone could come and feed him a meal if you are away for over 4 hours. I like a crate for a puppy to learn to sleep in but not for hours and hours on his own. When you let the group know the answers to my questions we may be able to help more.
  6. Do not take your baby puppy to a park until fully vaccinated. Do not let off lead in a public place until you have done a lot of training and pup will recall when called. Look into puppy schools and obedience clubs near you.
  7. I'd be going back to the vet asap and getting some meds to help control the diarrhoea. What you describe is not normal. Until that is under control then your pup won't feel like eating.
  8. Of course he is needy, he is a tiny baby!
  9. What do you like about the breeds you listed? Because one is very different to the others.
  10. https://www.nab.com.au/personal/help-and-guidance/personal-banking-fees-and-charges/bank-cheques interesting what the NAB bank says about money orders, might be worth looking into. I admit I thought bank cheques could be made out to a specific name. I am curious to what you think could go wrong? Is the breeder not offering you a contract or any sort of health guarantee? Keeping in mind Mother Nature likes to throw curveballs at times with no prior warnings.
  11. For me, in person pick ups people pay in cash. If the pup has to go interstate or overseas then it is bank transfer before pup leaves. Pup doesn't leave until paid for. ETA mind you my pups didn't sell for thousands so cash wasn't a big deal.
  12. Pay cash but get a receipt. Get the microchip number written on the receipt.
  13. Those poor, poor dogs. Of course she would claim there are no problems. No doubt they charge a pretty penny for their off casts as well
  14. https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/community/irish-wolfhound.asp you could look here and compare photo's.
  15. Welcome. Not sure if you have seen this https://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/community/australian-kelpie.asp also https://www.dolforums.com.au/topic/173378-australian-kelpie/ I can't help with personal experience but I do know that most show bred kelpies are solid colours. To get one with tan points would most likely mean going to the working breeders, hopefully someone might be able to point you towards them.
  16. The ashes of my 35 kilo dog would fit in a kleenex box. It would not fill it. I've left mine in the plastic. I don't look inside. The ashes of an adult person come back in a box very much like a shoebox. They were interred at the cemetery so no urn.
  17. You can't I'm sorry to say. If the breeder didn't register the litter then no one else can.
  18. This was not your fault. Your husband on the other hand ,........
  19. I don't consider 9 weeks too young to go to it's new home. Whatever the breed I highly doubt it's still with it's Mum much. You need to question your husband more. There is often a delay in getting papers to new owners due to back log in the various offices. Victoria in the last few years has been very bad, often taking weeks. I'm gathering the pup was bought in Queensland? I believe they can be registered straight into the new owners name and I have heard some breeders wait until all pups are sold before submitting the paperwork. Pups in Qld that are going onto the main register also need specific DNA tests. You say the breeder has two unrelated breeds? I am assuming that you are going off the DOL listings? It doesn't mean they don't actually breed different breeds, just that they are not noted on DOL. In my breed there are several breeders listed that haven't bred my breed in donkey's years but still show up in the listings. Except for certain rules you don't need permission to breed but yes litters should be registered. You could check with QLDdogs if the breeder has actually submitted any paperwork. It would help if you had copies of the parents registration. And it is possible someone, had an "oops" litter so the pups can't be registered. Breeder may be helping them out or the breeder might have had the accidental litter. But why would your husband say they were "fully papered"? You really need to pin him down. You sort of blame the breeder for not doing due diligence but you don't know how many conversations your husband and breeder actually have. Even if hubby says it was minimal can you 100% trust that is correct? And it's true that there are some breeders who wouldn't bother too much as long as they get the pups sold. You also need to decide what to do with the pup. No shame in not being able to keep her. Sounds like a popular breed so there is most likely a breed rescue that could take her if you don't want to find her a new home yourself. Or you have to decide if you can do her justice if you do keep her. Sorry you have been dumped into the middle of this.
  20. Ridgeback would suit. Good offlead would depend on the training. Good with other, future, family dogs depends again on training and both dogs temperaments, sensible introductions. I think RR have a longer life span and are, on the whole, healthier then Dobes , but that's just what's running around in my head. Could be totally wrong. Bear in mind that any dog can develop health problems out of the blue. No matter how good the breeders are and what health testing has been done. Oh and both breeds shed.
  21. a bit more information would help. Age and breed of dog, living situation ( back yard, court yard, no yard ) etc
  22. I'd be questioning both those 2 things. Where was the chew made and what was in the shampoo?
  23. I had an older dog who had an episode of idiopathic vestibular disease. One of the main giveaways is the eye flicking. A vet should have been able to pick that up. My boy took a few weeks to recover but there was no real treatment. I'm with Snook, unless really needed I'd be backing off the chemicals especially the all in one's.
