  11. no one is defending the death of this dog or any of the many thousands of all breeds put down every year because they are unwanted. What I am saying it at least it was a humane death, and having worked for the RSPCA for 10 years, I have seen many animals who would have been glad for a humane death. It is not a tactic it is my true belief. Better a humane death then an inhumane life or death.
  12. I can't reply for the woman referred to. We don't know that her heart wasn't breaking while doing so or that she couldn't have cared less. Some people not agree with some of my reasons for PTS some of my animals. But I firmly belief that there are things worse then death, I have seen living hell, humane death is not one of them.
  13. no not too much effort. But keeping in mind my dogs are my pets, not race dogs, if I had decided, for whatever reason I had to put a dog down, it would be because I thought it best for the dog and quite frankly would be most p!ssed off with a stranger telling me I was a bad person for doing so. I would have tunnel vision, it is such a hard decision to come too, I would not be in any state of mind to listen anyway. I have had racedogs offered to me when I've been at the track, that didn't impress me at all, they had no idea if I was a good home or not but because I made "clucky" ( what a handsome lad type things) noises at them they thought I'd want to take it home.
  14. I would put a greyhound down before handing it over to some random to do God knows what. If you are in a vet with say a dog yourself and you have been there for years you clearly arent some random walking past in the street (little different). if they have never set eyes on you before you are a random and you don't think greyhound people haven't been caught out before with giving dogs away? It's why some no longer do so and prefer to PTS as then they know the dog is not at risk. My first encounter was with a greyhound dumped at the pound, original owner had given her to someone who in turn passed her along, who passed her along. Lucky for that girl her original owner was able to be contacted and the bitch was removed from the pound. Wonder how keen he was to rehome one of his dogs after that?

  16. Um people who breed show bred greyhounds are already doing that. Racing greyhounds around a fenced in track after an artifical lure is a modern day event. Been happening less than a 100 years and the breed is many, many hundreds of years older then that. Sure my dogs wouldn't win a race but they haven't been bred to do that. They are hunting dogs, not race dogs. Does everyone who shows their dogs hunt with their dogs as well? There's a reason why many breeds have split into show and working categories. For most ANKC show dogs, there is no test of working ability. Same for greyhounds, very few dogs are actually allowed to hunt legally. eta some of the race track failures could have been very good hunters. Racedogs need to be fast enough to win a race, doesn't mean they would make a good hunter.

  18. Brilliant, was it easy to find? I find the VCA website quite hard to navigate. eta maybe I should make some copies and put in the return address envelopes of the people who obviously can't be bothered to do it correctly. Unfortunately, this still doesn't say about cutting the forms to the correct size! I was lucky, because at my first show the catalogue said "entry forms must be trimmed to correct size" and I texted a more experienced showie going "what do I have to do!??" well if I decide to do it again next year I will have that and more in the schedule: entry forms must be filled in correctly and trimmed to the correct size and maybe the link to the sample. Though the same ones will continue to do as they please. Wonder what they will do if clubs stop holding shows cause they can't find a person stupid enough to be the show secretary.
  19. yes there will always be greyhounds even if they are a rare breed in the showring. Absolutley, and look at the quality in Europe :) fifi hey we have excellent quality here too :D

  21. oh and in answer to your question - I have had 2 GSD's with HD and neither presented like yours did. From what you write your dog has sustained an injury.
