  1. I don't allow my dogs to be kenneled together why on earth would I want them to mix with strange dogs???
  2. not a whippet but a blue brindle greyhound approx 2 weeks old 4 weeks 10 weeks old
  3. can take a few weeks now you have to microchip them before submitting the paperwork. Try ringing the VCA with your breeders name/prefix and they should be able to tell you if the breeder is currently registered and may even be able to tell you if the papers are being processed.
  4. yeah for Capanash and Valli
  5. I don't see why a partial torsion couldn't resolve itself ie dog squirming around might be enough to do so. But that would be very rare. More likely it was just bloat, not torsion.
  6. My bitch stopped feeding her last litter when they were 3 weeks. By 5 weeks old they were on supercoat puppy, sometimes soaked sometimes not, chicken necks or wings or minced chicken carcass's. That was the staples. Also large "all day gob stopper" bones to gnaw on. Extra's like eggs, sardines were fed whenever. I wouldn't feed so many different foods all mashed together at the same time. Bit of tough love needed I think, that or they are still getting plenty from Mum.
  7. Congratulations Rainy and Ronnie
  8. I have just found out that a boy I bred, Brantarby Winter Knight, was shortlisted for Grp 4. Not bad for a gawky 10 month old greyhound, not bad indeed. :D Congratulations Vanessa and Merlin.
  9. well they are the ones that should know  but in the case of neuters, if the national doesn't hold that class why can't a neuter get points at another show?
  10. Well done Capanash and Valli
  11. then I suggest you ring the VCA and ask them.
  12. Have a good day everyone!
  13. and some that do are rife with politics so some breeders wouldn't touch them with a barge pole and that does not make them bad breeders.
  14. Change it to whatever you want. It doesn't have to sound similar. She will soon learn her new name especially if you give her a little treat or a game every time you say it for a couple of days.
  15. I've owned 7 female dogs, 4 purebred GSD's, 1 cross GSD, 1 mutt and 1 greyhound I have owned 4 male dogs - all greyhounds.
  16. I must admit I would just cut it off but if you can't do it a vet trip is in order. It can't be left like that.
  17. why did you medicate ( sedate? ) a pup going to Hawaii? I've sent two and they arrived in fine spirits, no sedation.
  18. My dogs must be broken. I can leave their meat out defrosting on top of the stove, well within their reach and it's never been touched. Same with the cat food, they could get it if they really wanted too. Margarine sits on the bench top most of the year. I think the kitchen bin has been raided 3 times in 20 years. I am and have been very aware of what I leave out though so there has never been much of a reward for them. They would nick a sandwich off my plate if left unattended in the lounge room while I make a cuppa :D eta spelling
  19. Really, at an indoor show at KCC park in June, with no real shelter outside, I would leave your dog at home. Then the whole family is free to chat to the showies/breeders and relax and enjoy the show. No stress for the people and none for the dog. Just my opinion.
  20. My show dogs are my pets and yes all dogs are different.
  21. for the large breeds I would like extra height, my sides are 600 mm. Does make it easier to keep warm in winter, but the reverse is true as well. I woudn't pay for heating, easy enough to have your own. Colour choice would be nice but not essential. Yes a textured floor and maybe a little way up the sides. I have a hinged door but either would be fine. I also didn't use pig rails but holes in a couple of different heights would be handy for those who want them, you could shove a broom handle or similar through. A plug in the bottom for ease of washing it out. A couple of brackets or similar so you could attach lights, heating etc easily. Might be a bit fiddley to make though. Could you make one without a bottom? Could you make just sides and a bottom if wanted that could be easily fitted together then taken apart for storing? For large breeds the storing is such a pain.
  22. it's not the collar choking her, she is doing it to herself. You need to do a bit more training with her. At 14 weeks old she is likely to pull and choke herself on most collars. In saying that my youngest boy did do much better on the lead he was trained on, when I switched it to, IMO a kinder one, that he finally fitted into, he choked himself silly. If people are saying try a different collar ask to borrow one and see how she goes before buying one.
  23. Hahah I was waiting for something like this thank you!!!..... I think show dogs should be one of the most socialised, and I have been to 5 shows and I’m pretty disappointed with the behaviour of some/most of the dogs I have to say, it’s nearly impossible to walk any dog past another without barking or snarling..... I think the point of a show dog is to represent the best of the breed... biting when not threatened should not be a part of that display... I believe they are suppose to be approachable, by dog and human... not just the judge in the ring. And sorry if i have offended anyone but this has been my personal observation in the few shows I have been to since taking an interest in showing. Dogs are dogs and your expectations are way too high. Dogs are not meant to mingle with hundreds of other dogs that are not part of their pack. They do it because we, their people, ask it of them. Different breeds have vastly different temperaments. You can not ask that they all be generic. To do so would turn them into something else. Dogs have bad days and good days, some like more space then others etc. Dog shows are stressful places for most dogs. The vast majority you see there, whatever the behaviour they exhibited, are great pets at home, able to be walked out and about without a single problem. You put 500 odd people in a smallish area, define their space etc and you can bet there will be snarling and carrying on. why do you expect so much more of dogs?
