Putting On The Beef - Without The Beef
Rebanne replied to TheCheekyMonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
give him more chicken carcass's etc. If he can eat lamb give him a lamb flap two or three times a week. And the food I find best of all to put on weight is porridge. -
1. yes tell them you are after a pet. 2. no it doesn't matter if you don't know about titles etc but make sure you know about what health issues your chosen breed could be prone to, if there are any actual tests that could help show up those issues and if the breeder has done them. If there are no actual tests what steps has the breeder done to help lower the incidence of potential health issues. Go into this over two or three emails/phone calls. 3. Nothing wrong with having a preference but be prepared to be told you can't choose the sex. Listen to the reasons the breeders gives you.

there was a $600 difference in flying a greyhound pup from Melb to Brisbane. The difference was due to a door to door service or do the driving from house to airport ourselves. So it depends on what you ask for.

good luck Cookie can you please pm me the vet account details, it won't be much, have a vet bill of my own to pay but I really would like to help
-
Yeah I've done that. Personally I have never asked the price up front but I don't mind at all if others do it to me.
-
I think that is probably more what I meant :) I am not a breeder, but I am pretty sure I would be turned off someone if the first question I was asked is "how much"...but that's just me. People who ask "how much" in the first instant are usually after a bargain compared to good quality & I wouldn't sell to someone who's priority was money over quality. If someone has done their homework in choosing which breed is right for them & which breeders, then they should have a bit of an idea of the price range anyway. not in my breed they wouldn't, only pricing guidelines likely to be found are for race bred greyhounds. And I don't think wanting to know the price up front means they are looking for a bargain either.

I don't want to be an admin. -
oh, oh, I want a German Shipper too!

Funnily enough "how much" does not turn me off if it's in the first email. It's a reasonable question and I prefer email to phone calls as a night shift worker. But you might have to wait a few days for a reply. Don't discount looking interstate.

either way I hope it was only with owners permission

Exercises To Prevent Jaw Bone Deterioration?
Rebanne replied to Kitt's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
my vet never mentioned this to me when my cat and my greyhound both had all their teeth removed. Both lived for nearly another 12 months after having their teeth out and certainly never got any jaw droop. -
Homeless People In The City With Dogs
Rebanne replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
well premium food is not always the bees knees anyway. You might not be able to carry bags of dog food around but worm tablets don't take up a lot of space. -

so unless you feed a premium food you can't be a good owner? -
Incidence Of Heartworm In Nsw, Qld & Sa
Rebanne replied to Inevitablue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Do you know the details of what preventative she was using Rebanne? Was it a monthly and she only missed one dose because that goes against the inofrmation on the leaflet in my Interceptor Spectrum packet which says: no idea, sorry. There was a death in the family and at least one dose was missed in the angst but the dog was on a monthly treatment. I'm happy to do mine every 6 weeks except for 4 months over summer. -
Nice idea, but would get mighty hard and laborious to follow once the thread has a number of "wotami's" on the go at the one time. Maybe a new sub-forum then? no, this is a purebred dog site.

Kids Tormenting Dogs Through The Fence
Rebanne replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
Keep your dogs away from children then? no, control your kids and don't allow them to torment innocent creatures just so they can learn some consequences. -
Thank you for that, we are staying just across the road

Kids Tormenting Dogs Through The Fence
Rebanne replied to Staffyluv's topic in General Dog Discussion
No, neither are dogs. But dog owners are still held accountable for their dog's behaviour and expected to supervise them so that they don't annoy others, even if all they want to do is play. It is the parents' responsibility to ensure that their children don't bother others. If the children can't be trusted to listen, the parents should supervise them or take steps to ensure that their kids are not in a position to annoy others. Most people don't supervise their dogs all the time so I don't consider that a valid comparison, and in this particular case the OP has confirmed the parents are not concerned with what their children do and may have tried to bait the dog, so very different to parents who understand the right of children to play, learn, explore, learn consequence and develop normally without being monitored constantly and also understand their responsibility for their childrens behaviour when they are exploring their world. Children do not have the right to learn the consequences of their behaviour with my dogs! -
put him back on lead immediately he tries it on. But first of all do not let him off lead until you have walked around with him for a few minutes so he isn't so excited when you let him off.

do they have a weight recommended dose on the pkt? I used to give my 30 kilo plus dogs one or two teaspoons a day from memory. I am currently just using MSM powder and put a desert spoon into a bowl of water.

Incidence Of Heartworm In Nsw, Qld & Sa
Rebanne replied to Inevitablue's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
As much as I dislike regularly inflicting chemicals on to my dogs this is the one I always keep up to date. The treatment to cure is pretty bad ( unless it's changed ) and I much prefer prevention. Several years ago the dog next door came down with heartworm after her owner missed a dose. -
just register the dog as what it looks like. Worked for me. And be honest with adopters that they are adopting a mutt and you have no way of knowing what breeds went into the makeup of their dog. I dislike the what am I threads and fully agree with Diva. The dogs are mutt's, admit it and get on with life. Never made me love my mutt less then my purebreds.

Heartworm Protection Dosage Intervals?
Rebanne replied to teekay's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I'm not an expert but I only give my dogs their heartworm tablets every 6 weeks in the cooler months, going to monthly only in the summer months. My dogs are smooth coated, we have lots of mozzies and they are out in the yard when I am at work. -
who cares what job it is, no way would I sell a pup to someone who intended putting it in a kennel every 2nd week and I wouldn't care how good the kennel was. I wouldn't sell them an adult either.
