you would be if they forced you or your dog out onto the road in front of a car. Made you drop your dogs lead in the scuffle and your dog took off never to be seen again.
-
I'd be skipping the trial. Wouldn't matter if there was nothing else on until March. If you want to use the best dog (in your opinion) then that is what it takes.
-
or are you buying another one?

With the winter litter I used vet bed, for the first few days covered with a polar fleece blanket, then the polar fleece was removed. I cut my vet bed into crate size pieces and just overlapped them for the whelping box. Plus heaps of layers of newspaper underneath. Summer litter was newspaper covered by sheets/towels, often with a frozen bottle of water or two tucked underneath.

Can Vaccinating A Pup To Young Be Dangerous?
Rebanne replied to biglib's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
was wondering when microchipping was going to come up. Pup also has to be microchipped before being sold. So a pup illegally sold before 8 weeks, with no microchipping and a vaccination that is useless. Yeah great breeder the poor mite is coming from. -

agree, and having had greyhounds coming into the house, for the first time, as adults, well age had no bearing on how they behaved, reacted, coped, etc and everything to do with their baseline temperament.

Skye Terrier In Blacktown Pound
Rebanne replied to Boronia's topic in Dog Rescue (General Rescue Discussion)
I'm hoping this actually means 'One of the breeders is hotfooting it to Blacktown to get him' rather than just being aware and not ignoring him. Rescue should be a last resort and you'd hope he'd go to a rescue that knew something about the breed. I don't know Sheridan was just passing on a message cause some posters here were getting a bit antsy. Not everyone can drop evertyhing at a moments notice. Skye breeders are not exactly thick on the ground. Sorry for trying to reassure people, won't be back in this thread. -

You cannot force people to be educated. No legislation about licensing people to own dogs will work. No amount of education will help stupid people. So what do we do? This is why I'd like a licence system and yard check. If people had to do something and pay a fee before getting a dog it would at least reduce impulse buys. naw the dicks would still go out and get their dogs. Personally my view is the same as Sheridan's can't educate stupid. IMO the laws we already have need to be enforced before adding any new ones. How long has NSW had compulsory microchipping? Over 10 years and plenty of dogs still aren't chipped. The ones from the bloke around the corner with the "staffy" bitch who is bred to the mate up the roads "red nose" dog etc.
-
The actual quote was 'Oh no not her, you know her bitch snapped at my dog once' My bitch will snap at any dog that dares to push her buttons by being too forward with sniffing her backside or "gasp" try to mount her. In fact she could very well try to rip the dogs head off if he did throw a leg over her.
-
no they said the dog snapped, hardly a DA dog. More likely a person they don't like that they are trying to cause problems for. Snapping is hardly appropriate behaviour for a Lab IMO.... why? Aren't Labs dogs? Do not dogs warn other dogs by various means?
-
yes show greys have to be muzzled too. GAP greys have to be desexed, except for NSW, where they will make an exception for a greyhound being show. It's another reason mine aren't walked around the streets. Bit unfair for them to be muzzled and unable to defend themselves while other dogs are free to cause trouble.

[quote name='melzawelza' timestamp='1351733368' post='6005769' My bad. I have had a few people tell me now it is bad form to bring a bitch in heat to a show but maybe that was their specific breed or they were mistaken. You have not acknowledged that all dogs at shows are LEASHED and under control of their owners, something which these dogs were not. You can't compare the two situations. Bitches in season at shows is a whole other arguement  Dogs at shows are not always on leash, they can and do get away from their owners. And can cause damage, the owner that is in my case when a whippet slipped it's lead and the large male owner chased it. Whippet went under my young greyhound bitch, owner dived to try and catch the dog and landed on my bitch! Male owner picked himself up off my bitch and away he went chasing his dog and never came back to apologise. Meanwhile I am left with a traumatised girl, who some 5 years on can still get spooked while waiting around to go into the ring. Slightly coloured my opinion of whippet owners I tell you! Same as my opinion of some breeds of dogs has been coloured by adverse events.

umm greyhounds are nothing like a bull breed and Australia is one of only 2 countries in the whole world that require greyhounds to be muzzled. Greyhounds who are not cat safe can pass. I think that entire post was pretty badly informed. Why should bull breeds have to pass a character test but not other breeds that are high (or higher) on the list of offenders like GSDs, Rotts, Labs and pretty much any other medium to large breed that can inflict serious damage on people and animals? There are bunches of breeds that have guarding tendencies or high prey drive, including Border Collies. Why should they be exempt? I agree, why should my greyhounds have to be muzzled while the nasty little jack russell down the street that chases school kids out into the street isn't. I have always thought one in all in. No exceptions. In fact I no longer walk my dogs around the street due to the many uncontrolled dogs that just love to rush(attack) yours. Councils should get tougher and enforce the laws they have and start hitting these people where it hurts, in their hip pocket.
-
yes they are. Lots of them. I've shown my bitch in season and I'm not the lone ranger.

umm greyhounds are nothing like a bull breed and Australia is one of only 2 countries in the whole world that require greyhounds to be muzzled. Greyhounds who are not cat safe can pass. Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't there tests now for greys and green collared ones (I think it's green) can be walked without a muzzle? yes there are but as I said non cat safe dogs can and do pass. A greyhound is nothing like a bull breed in temperament. Countries world wide have problems with "pitbulls" not with greyhounds, even though greyhounds have got loose and killed other dogs in the past. Greyhounds, in general, get on fine with other dogs because they have always had to, either in history when they hunted as part of a pack, or more recently on the race track. Fighters are of no use to anyone and usually destroyed. They are not bred from.
