no such thing as a stupid question each male and female dog that win get challenge points, of course depending on how many other eligible dogs they were shown against. You are correct that if you are the only one you get 6 points. Then the two challenge dogs go up against each other for BOB. If your bitch had beat a dog for BOB she would have got another point. If you are BOB all beaten dogs give you a point. If the male dog had beaten 10 other males to get the challenge your bitch also gets those points added to her BOB. You don't get challenge plus BOB points if you are the only entrant, to increase your points you need to beat others. BOB outranks challenge. That's why you got a BOB card, not a challenge. Not sure this is very clear, hopefully someone else comes along and gives a better explanation. But ask away if you have more questions. And congratulations on your girls first points! They are precious.

The paps I've known are smart, energetic dogs. Fairly easy to groom yourself. I've never heard they are hard to house train. I wouldn't recommend taking such a small dog to a dog park. If your daughter want to do some training then she can be the one that grooms it and takes it for on leash walks. That way she'll have a good bond when it comes to training.

Muster Dogs: the new Australian reality show set to charm the world
Rebanne replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
I will watch it on catch up TV. Was watching the tennis. -
as you say LMO, heartache and hope. That video of the peke's really touched a spot deep inside as my parents had 3 boys over my early adulthood
-
I think this was extensively discussed when it first happened, there were photo's and video's. Most agreed the RSPCA were, um, insert your word of choice here, and the BC's could have been saved.

Help - Jodie's not well, not sure what to do
Rebanne replied to Katdogs's topic in General Dog Discussion
so sorry Katdogs and tdierkx and all who loved Jodie. She was obviously an amazing dog. -
I would just give small amounts of water so he can't guzzle. Most likely a tummy bug as Powerlegs said. If he's happy and playful I'd fast him for 24 hours ( just give water ) and then just some cooked chicken. I'm not a great believer in giving rice for an upset tummy. Of course if you are not happy with him it would be vet asap

Adding a new dog into a 2 dog household
Rebanne replied to TeddyTheBear's topic in General Dog Discussion
I've had multiple dogs together, multiple bitches together and mixed sexes together. Sometimes desexed, sometimes entire, sometimes both. All house pets. Only had one bitch that was a problem, large dog picking on a smaller bitch. She was adopted as an adult and was returned to the organisation I got her from after several months. German Shepherds and Greyhounds and one crossbreed mutt. -
sounds like a release of tension. Can you teach a release to an object, one of those treat holders? Something that fits in your pocket and you can drop it within your training area. Send him to find it, should use up some excitable energy, he gives it to you, you treat him and both walk off, no further release word. You could do it several times to help release that pent up energy and he never know when it's coming

I only give my dogs their monthly heartworm every 6 weeks. Have done for years. I know there is/was someone here that only gave heartworm prevention at the change of each season. I haven't been quite that brave. I do usually stop giving it when the dog is 10 or 11 as normal old age wold take them out before heartworm would be a problem. It's not just the heartworm's life cycle but also the mosquito's that needs to be researched before making decision's like altering the time frame for giving the preventative. Warrior is 10 1/2, once Easter arrives he won't get another heartworm preventative. He'll be 11 1/2 before the next mosquito season. That's the oldest I've had a Greyhound live.

No ticks where I live and rarely do I see a flea. So I'm not much help.

if the owner is not a member of a state body i.e. DogsNSW and has not done the breeder course then the pups will not be able to be registered. Have the parents of the pups had their relevant health tests?

My Kelpie is getting mad when thunder storm are around
Rebanne replied to angel opazo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Opal is one to go out into the rain as well, she'd be so restless, pacing around and around, inside and out. She's the one that put herself into a crate last time and stayed there. -
I have a shear magic and they use batteries. I bought them to trim the Greyhounds "skirt" mainly. Belly hairs. I still have it, about 15 years old. I think they would be pretty light weight for a coated dog but having Greys I'm not into real clippers so don't know much

My Kelpie is getting mad when thunder storm are around
Rebanne replied to angel opazo's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yeah I have one is is very worried about thunder and fireworks, one medium worried and one not worried at all. I do use an over the counter calming tablet and many doses of rescue remedy. Last time my most frightened dog found a safe place for herself and put herself to bed in one of my crates. (no door) I was thinking of getting some valium from the vet for New Years Eve but have decided to ride it out and see if the safe place helps again. As you know it's not always easy to know when you are about to get a thunderstorm and sometimes you aren't home to give the dog meds. So beside meds I suggest a safe place for your dog, the bathroom, bottom of your wardrobe etc. Always with the door open a bit. I can't help with the mowing except to put your dog inside -
Is my dogs stool normal? (Picture included)
Rebanne replied to khoury_karina's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
looks normal to me -
You can make pants like Asal said but he also needs to see a vet. My first dog had both elbows operated on many years ago at age 7. Healed very well and never had another and died at 13.

I use a large rubber rubbish bin. Sometimes I tip the dry food straight into it and sometimes I just pop the open bag in, depending how much food I have to go in. Easily takes a 20 kilo bag but I doubt you need that size

Getting stitches removed after 9 days?
Rebanne replied to cs2021's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I usually take out the stitches myself after a spey. If you are confident dog owner you could ask your vet for a stitch cutter and do it yourself. If not I must say I would err on the side of caution and book her in for the Wednesday after. Yes that's 15 days, but she was speyed very soon after being in season. And you wouldn't want things to "fall apart" over the holidays. -
Labrador hip score 8 - 7 on left side
Rebanne replied to Smb091's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
While I am happy you are happy some of that wording is strange. Good breeders do know heaps about their dogs and medical histories. Just as much as "some government agency" -
I think you should be looking at some adult dogs at some rescue's. One's that have been fostered so you get some idea of what they are like.
