  1. why do they have to socilaize with strange dogs? the only other dogs mine even see are the ones at dog shows, the occasional greyhound at the slipping track or my daughter's dog. I avoid other dogs when out walking like the plague. Any new dog is going to be 'stranger' to your dog before they meet. Even if they are known to you. But I get what you mean. My question was a genuine one, not a bitchy, nit pick. Dory's very socialable, she loves meeting new dogs. She's also not over the top and happy to have a quick sniff then move on. I see so many paranoid owners walking their dogs. They almost flinch every time they see another dog. It's quite sad. Dogs need a social life too. I feel like I need to carry a sign that says, "Yes. She's friendly. Yes, they can say Hello. " not just so Dory can continue her socialization, but so other dogs can actually get some. How else can they learn? Not all dogs on walks are uncontrolled monsters. Trust me. Around where I live it's too far the other way. Dogs need a social life? They are dogs. All mine need to do is walk past other dogs without acting like a dick, and they do. ETA mine are not DA so don't assume every owner that likes to keep their dogs away from others have dogs with problems. I just want to keep mine that way. And I am very aware of how things would go down if my dogs did react to another's rudeness. Not very well and not in my dogs favour.

  3. as someone who has bought a "lemon" in the past, resulting in that dog being PTS at 20 months old, all I wanted was the above.
  4. Thanks Zoiboy for passing that along
  5. I don't think it comes down to ethics. You did the tests, thats ethics, what more could you have done?
  6. No I do not believe you are responsible in any way. Sh!t happens. You are dealing with a living creature. You have done the right thing by x-raying the parents etc. Sometimes life just throws us a curve ball and everyone has to deal with it. If it makes you feel better you could refund the purchase price but make it clear it is not an admitance of guilt nor that you are going to help out any more financially. The owners have to accept these things can just happen. You also do not know if the enviroment contributed to the problem. Life just sucks sometimes and everybody has to just get on with it.
  7. are you talking Osteochondritis Dissecans (OCD) or elbow dysplasia? Because if you remove the chip in OCD there should be little to no long term problems.
  8. Have x-rays been taken? How big is the chip? What has been suggested surgery wise? My understanding is once the chip is removed, if done asap once diagnosed, there is very little to none long term effects. In greyhounds it often occurs around the 6 - 8 month mark, the chip is removed the dogs still go on to race.
  9. It is an indvidual thing. I don't sell my pups on contracts.
  10. ask your breeder what they think of the foods you want to feed the puppy. Be aware you could void any health guarantees by feeding other then what the breeder has told you to feed. Check your contract. FWIW I wouldn't feed either of those foods, particularly they puppy one. I don't have a giant breed but do have a large breed which also needs to grow slow and my pups are put onto adult food by 3 months of age.
  11. I don't want to buy it, but I would think $55 is quite cheap and you could get more if sold on. It's quite an early volume. Maybe shoot off a PM to Vicdog and Greytmate? They are up to Vol 131. http://www.greyhoundstudbook.co.uk/ I have asked on my FB pages
  12. I would just like to say Greyhounds are pretty easy to train if you know anything about them and are realistic about what they can achieve.
  13. Hehe, we are taking a couple over to the Mt Gambier Easter shows, and the SA grey contingent have been swanning about in Europe after attending Crufts! :D Ratz. Last years grey turnout at Sydney Sighthound was a thing of joy. Yes I was very happy with the result that day :D
  14. Off to Mt Gambier to have some fun and hopefully get my girls Neuter title.
  15. Sorry I should have clarified..........when entering, for instance aust bred dog...........can I request that my dog could be placed either at the front or right at the end??? no, not really.
  16. Thanks for the detailed answer.
  17. Tralee, you did show a dog who was carrying an injury that not even you could examine. Why would you expect a judge to succeed where you couldn't? That was very unfair to the dog and the judge.
  18. wait and see how the pup recovers and what the vets have to say on Monday. These things happen.
  19. Bit hard to have a discussion/debate with someone who can never answer a straight out question asked of him. I've learnt more from others in this thread then from Tralee. All I've learnt from Tralee is the dog show world is out to get him and his dogs.
  20. how could they protect their flock if they were corralled with their humans? isn't night time when there is the most danger? Think I might do some more reading at work tonight. What work do your dogs do Tralee? Oh, come on! 'H' has told me all those stories. They are hardly 'historical' Ok if Zoiboy has it wrong, as in they are talking fairly recently, hence the not historical, what was your statement (that I have bolded so you may easily see it) referring too? Which comes back to my question how could they protect their flock if locked up with the people and not as Zoiboy described?
  21. How? So how many of these dogs have you seen in the flesh Tralee, how many work and show? You can quote stuff and post pics from the internet but you have made some pretty big claims about the temperaments of the British and American dogs. First hand knowledge or internet knowledge? What work do your dogs do?
  22. Congratulations to the winners and to the losers. Big acheivement by all to get there!
