What dry dog food are people using?
Rebanne replied to JulesP's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I feed supermarket brands. Farmers Market, Supercoat, just bought a new one Elevate, Nature's Gift. I've fed Cobberdog from the rural store as well. I'd say it makes up about 1/3 of their diet if that. -
There was a Greyhound recently killed by a "pitbull" type who was a declared dangerous dog. Owned by a well known rugby player who shipped it off to his sister in a different council. Did not advise the original council. I hope he gets the book thrown at him. Reading the article it seems pretty clear he was trying to get around the dangerous dog declaration.

I bred a girl who needed a new home. She will be 5 in September so 4 1/2 years in her original home. A new home was found and her new Mum and I met over FB. Straight away there were questions on how skinny a Greyhound should look and what to feed her as the new family weren't happy with things. Saw a photo today, hard not to cry. Severely underweight. And I mean borderline emaciated. And this was after a fortnight of good feeding. Why did her old family start neglecting her? Was it because they weren't keeping her anymore? I'd seen photos and videos and it looked like she was living the life of Riley. She'd never been registered and the microchip was still in my name. The new owner was fixing these things. As well as asking advice about feeding. Vet visit Monday, bloods will be taken. Why were the old owners so bad in the end? I suppose it's possible this poor girl has an underlying health problem but nothing was disclosed. I just don't understand why people do this. I am glad I'm no longer breeding.

Australian Cattle Dog or Blue Heeler for first time owner?
Rebanne replied to JBonman's topic in Puppy Chat
It says the texas heeler is a cross breed so goodness knows what characteristics you may get. Whichever way you go ask the breeder for guidance, you would want one of the softer pups not the hard drive one. My first dog, at 19, was an Australian cattle dog cross German Shepherd. I managed to train her to be a very good dog, she was brilliant. So I would think you and your daughter could do likewise. Check out puppy schools and obedience clubs that use a positive method. But I can't stress enough to seek the right sort of breeder. I know I was lucky with my first dog, I could have had hell on 4 legs with that cross. -
Fingers crossed.

New purebred puppy owner- inexperienced with papers needing help
Rebanne replied to Teags00001's topic in Puppy Chat
Give your breeder a ring first off. Sometimes it's takes a couple of weeks to get papers back and then the breeder needs to send them out. If you wanted to do the right thing breeding wise you would need full papers which are coloured blue. Then you need to join VicDogs. Also you would need to do any health tests required for Staffordshire Bull Terriers. You may also need to do DNA testing. https://dogsvictoria.org.au/ -
Could be spey incontinence, which is easily helped by medication.

Who said he had to walk more then 30 minutes? As the others above but just walk him for 15 mins and never hot ground ( I see you are overseas and it's summer there )

Have you tried asking on FB? If you send me a message with details on where to send etc I can ask in a couple of breeders groups

The most wonderful time of the year!

I do enjoy a naughty pup ---------- as long as it's not mine Welcome Snickers and Natalie -
Livamol was always suggested to darken dogs up. I used to give a rough teaspoon to a GSD with snow nose

I must admit I love my vets Standard Poodle cross, I assume with lab. Would have to be one of the nicest, calmest dogs around. But I wouldn't want to look after the coat.

No, I'd wait out the full month. What if it was a bigger entire male that came along and tried his luck? Might not end well.

I have no problems with breeders, who do the right thing, breeding a litter of pups for the pet people. But that only works for the popular breeds. I only ever bred for myself because it was so hard finding a decent home for the pups that I didn't keep.

A FB friend got a Siberian Husky from a registered breeder and he had 3 cats.

Totally agree with the replies above -
The bottom jaw is the slowest to grow. As above talk to the breeder

Save your toilet rolls and fold them in half and stick them in another one. Could even smear a bit of peanut in the middle so he gets the idea. A whole apple, core it and stuff the middle with some dry food and peanut butter and freeze. Can he have a large raw bone? A marrow bone sawn in half lengthwise. Put vicks vapour rub on your furniture.

Yes some dogs are just cows when it comes to grass I've had a couple. I do believe they will seek out certain grasses if feeling a bit "blah" but it's not likely they will find what they need in built up areas.

You need a word IMO that is easy to pronounce. Also you may change breeds. My prefix that was used for my Greyhounds is actually made up of parts of the names of 3 German Shepherds! That was the breed I thought I would end up breeding. When the time came to register a prefix I thought of all sorts of names to do with greyhounds and yet I kept coming back to my original, put it first and got it. Good luck, I'm not very creative so not much help with a name
