Confused As To What To Do Next?
Rebanne replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sweet sleep Joey. What a lucky boy you have been to have such wonderful people in your life and who can help you on your journey today. The ones who have gone before you now await your arrival. -
Confused As To What To Do Next?

sorry Jules -
No. My incredibly nervy, spook dog was born that way. I knew where she came from, how she was raised, saw her frequently before she came home and if you saw her reaction to picking up a mop/broom/stick then you would think, yes she has been abused. But she wasn't - 100% guaranteed.

Congratulations!

That makes sense. It sits better with me too because it is about individual dogs. Handmade! Original! One off design! All true but I don't think I'd be using those descriptors either for a living thing. I've jumped down from my high horse now. Clearly hormonal. My mutt's registered name was Exclusive Emma cause quite clearly you could never produce another one the same

well I don't know if its really doing that. It did say that adoptions had increased by 1.4% which is a very small amount and could be down to anything really. I agree that it is a shame that the term 'mutt' has become a dirty word. I personally think it's one of the reasons that so many people with a mixed breed dog refer to it as a breed name and why others get caught up in the oodle phenomena. My mutt gets called a mutt when people ask me, and their reaction is one of such frustration... "but what breed is he?" they ask me... people have forgotten what the word mutt actually means. That's exactly what my x bred dogs have been called as well. I never felt the need to make up a name for them. They were mutts, I'm not ashamed of it and fail to see why anyone else would be. If you love your dog you love them regardless of the name they go by I was never ashamed of my mutt either, loved her to bits, no different to my other dogs.

I re-read my own post and didn't even add the hyphen to show-er. I still got it though, never even thought about the object you wash under

Advice Please (please Be Kind)

fell at the very first hurdle comes to mind actually. -
If I am in an off lead area, as opposed to an off lead fully fenced park, then I do expect to be able to walk my on lead dog there without being approached by off lead dogs. Where I live there is no off lead park but only a couple of off lead area's. These area's are multi purpose walking/bike tracks. One runs past a school, both run alongside a river/creek. Lovely walking, jogging, biking tracks. I've given up walking my dogs there because of off lead dogs being allowed to menace mine. It's a joint area so people who allow their dogs to run around off lead should not be allowing them to run up to other dogs without asking if it's alright first. How hard is it to call your dog back and have it under control and then ask the approaching person if the dogs can greet? It's called respect people. Thank Dog I can take my dogs to the local slipping tack for a run a couple of times a week.

I would be asking your trainer to clarify and explain why they want you to feed raw. I assume you have paid them for their opinion, they need to expand on the what and why.

You asked for information about acupuncture in your first post

You don't have to own a reactive dog to be sick to death of all the offlead dogs harassing you and yours. I don't want your dog coming up to mine uninvited. Why is that so hard for some to understand? I don't care how friendly or well mannered it is, if you are not in an off lead area put the damn dog on a leash.

Warby St vets Wangaratta has a vet visit fortnightly who does chiro and acupuncture. Her name is Christine Gee.

Hypothetical: Baby With Temperament Fault

your story reminded me that we had a Lab when I was a small child that was very aggressive, not that I remember. What I remember is driving out to the country to a home that had labs and we took home a black one. My parents ran a milk bar and as was custom back then the dog was often loose. I came home from school one day to be told the dog had gone, I was devastated and cried for days. Years late my parents told me how Sooty used to bail up all the non anglo saxon looking people out the front of the shop. He was given to a truck driver who declared he was the best watch dog he had ever had, could leave his truck unlocked anywhere. I'd forgotten about Sooty -
as a greyhound breeder I wouldn't sell you a puppy. Pups need a place to run and develop properly and a courtyard doesn't provide it. But an adult greyhound would suit. I would recommend one from GAP that has been properly assessed for your circumstances. My greyhounds are fine with cats as were the GAP fosters I have had through my house.

Possibly sending over some blood samples from a litter of pups when they are 6 weeks old. I have looked on the website etc of the company I would be sending to but after some first hand experience. The test can only be done in USA.

is she a gulper when eating? Does she swallow a lot of air? If so can you use a slow down feeding bowl and see if that makes a difference?

I bought one of those pups, knowing what she was like. I put her down at 20 months old. Problem is those pups are often ok with the breeder, amongst their family. I was a fool to take her, I could see what she was like, but really didn't have any idea just how much it would impact on her quality of life. Based on my experience and the heartbreak we both went through, if I bred one like that and could see it, I would PTS. -
Nuf Nuf's aren't confined to non DOL people, nuf nuf's are everywhere

I think Wangaratta Kennel Club runs shows handling classes but you have to ask for them. I haven't been so can't advise on how good, or not, they are.
