  1. I would be very concerned that they weren't down by now. Did you speak to the breeder when you first found out they weren't down at 9 weeks? Has it been noted on his vet checks they weren't down?
  2. there is a disease in greyhounds, so far only acknowledged in show bred, and possibly only in show bred, that was very quickly found a test for. We were very lucky it was "easily" able to be tracked down. Carriers are still used in breeding programs.
  3. Maybe they did but they turned out not to be the best for whatever reason. You wouldn't want them putting up bad pics. Just ask them to take pics of your dog, that's what I do.
  4. maybe someone could start a new thread, this one has been really derailed
  5. well done, would have been a strong class in the Cav's
  6. My pups don't wear collars as a rule. I use a slip collar for show training, actually I use the nearest collar/lead I can find, which is usually a slip all in one. If out and about I use a martingale cause they are sighthounds.
  7. ask in the show thread, I'll have my catalogue on Wednesday 26th and can copy then oops made a mistake I show on the Thursday not the Wednesday but I'll still send it to you
  8. pain? is her temp normal? or because she's a maiden doesn't really know what she wants either?
  9. cable ties on the joins, where each side meets the other, roof too
  10. Personally I'd scruff him, give him a little shake, say No or Grr quite loudly and repeat if need be. He's telling you what to do not the other way around.
  11. Yep. All my dogs have been able to be inside, outside, on their own, together, separated either side of a fence or baby gate, whatever I want is what they get. And they are quiet about it. I call the shots in this household.
  12. sorry but that would have to be the biggest load of codswallop I have ever heard. When I had GSD's they were pretty much outside 20 hrs a day. Their ribbons/sashes for obedience and agility speak for themselves. Some dogs do get sunburn that is true, cause some of them, no matter how much shade is provided, just have to sunbake
  13. Maybe they are outside cause they are after all dogs and it's good for them, rather then be cooped up in a pen for 3/4 of their life. Pups need to feel rain on their back, sunlight on their face, wind ruffling through their fur, chase a leaf blowing along the ground. I appreciate this is not always possible for people living in flats/units but if you have a backyard, then yeah I think the dog should be allowed to enjoy it, on his own terms, not with a human hovering over them.
  14. why can't they be outside early morning, early evening, or even overnight?
  15. I was the same but I don't regret it for a single minute.
  16. The article states she called once, when they first got out, then she got a letter from the pound/council saying they had her dogs. How soon after she got the letter she started trying to wriggle out of the pound fees the article didn't say. I suspect they were put down cause they were habitual escapee's
  17. Usually outside in the yard. Often separated now that Fern is older and doesn't know that rough housing hurts her! Or they are together in a smaller part of the yard so not as much playing can be done. I can divide the yard into several different sizes/areas, depending on length of time away and how many dogs and their ages ( and health requirements. ) Not often left inside for hours at a time. Sometimes the back door is left open so they can access the kitchen area, the door to the rest of the house is locked.
  18. And so she should. according to the article she rang the pound once! ETA I read the full article on line, dogs were in the pound for over 28 days
  19. It would be very hard on you but for the dogs sake I would send her back to her breeder and let them rehome the dog. It's sad your situation has changed so much but I feel it's unfair to the dog to chop and change around. You don't know where you will be in 12 months time, things might not have improved, what then? I think you should think of the dog first.
  20. Fern had a litter June 20th and was desexed mid Nov. 2 years ago now and no sign of any incontinence. Only bitch that I ever had that developed incontinence was spayed at 6 months, had a UTI at 6 years and became incontinent after that. I've had several spayed bitches and only the one that had any problems.
  21. Does the rubber disintegrate? I always buy new bedding for each new litter, so if it only lasts out one litter before wearing down, that would suit me ok...... It does, when I take mine out of the wash the rubber is all through the plush pile reminds me of grated cheese Thanks......that solves that question....no rubber backed for me :) But that doesn't happen with mine :)
  22. I have a huge whelping box, 1.4 x 1.4 metres and just use a couple of pieces in it. Much easier to wash then one big one :D
