  1. I am going to be the hard head and say I would PTS Daisy Mae. She is going to be in pain, both mental and physical, for the rest of her life. How fair is that? Give her some peace now.
  2. I'm not sure where you're coming from but it sounds like a really crappy space. Thanks, everyone, for your replies - especially to dancinbcs. You've given me a lot to think about :) You have a very, very long way to go if you really want to be an ethical breeder, a very long way. So far you are sounding like a BYB who is only interested in breeding for colour.
  3. I honestly don't know. I would have thought it was a fault on a fawn Pug, and I have no idea how you're supposed to tell the difference between a smutty fawn and a true silver. I suggest you join your breed club, oversea's clubs, pages on FB etc and start studying all you can find. Starting with the standard.
  4. Me too. Though I've heard that martingale collars are better than flat collars for Pugs because they apply an even pressure around the whole of the neck and not just at the front where the trachea is. eta I mean for training. My Pug wears a harness. Martingales still put pressure on the front of the neck, they still have a limited choke. They are very useful for dogs whose necks are bigger then their heads though.

    Second Dog

Honestly in over 30 years of owning multiple dogs I have never had any trouble with them bonding to me. I've trailled dogs in obedience, agility and conformation shows. All my dogs have known how to be inside or out, on their own or with others. Put the work in, get the results.
  6. rescue remedy for yourself maybe Flashsmum?
  7. Lots of dogs stand their and lick your face or hand and wag their tail while they are PTS. Go to any pound in the country and you'll see plenty of dogs killed, young healthy ones, it's not just greyhounds. And if they are going to die anyway, then take their blood to help others live. They are anaesthetised, they feel nothing. Not an easy job for anyone involved with wholesale killing of unwanted healthy dogs, regardless of breed.
  8. I bought my dogs a new bowl from the Sydney Royal in 2012, put it in the same spot as the old one. They didn't like it and rarely drank from it. I had another dog visit who was getting on in years and I lifted the bowl up for him to drink from. Wow, all of a sudden my 2 decided they too could drink from it. Dogs are funny creatures and often people never have any idea what is going around in the head
  9. A greyhound fairly new to a home can shed heaps! I would never consider a greyhound low shedding at the best of times. (as I look around at my loungeroom) And whose to say it's the actual dog? What it's fed, where it has slept etc could have a bearing as well. There is only one way to tell if you Dad will react to any one dog and that is spend some time getting up close and personal with it.
  10. Personally I'd leave it alone. It looks like it's only discolouration. Tooth surface looks smooth. Sometimes antibiotics can cause developing teeth to be discoloured though it would be strange for only the one.
  11. cause it started innocently enough, one day Hank was bored or something, you responded, Hank liked it, tired it again and before you know it you have a behaviour. :D LOL! That makes perfect sense. Here I was trying too hard to read into it. I thought maybe he felt bad because every morning he gets a delicious bone while I only have a cup of tea in my hand, he then took great pity on me and started insisting that we share his bone to be polite........ except he didn't share, he rubbed it into your face he had the bone and you, poor human, had nothing  aren't puppies fun :D

  13. to me this is totally different and I think might be a slight case of anxiety.
  14. He's trained you very well hasn't he :D Just put him outside and leave him to it. If he whines to come in too bad, ignore him. Or if you must let him in, then the bone gets put away for another day. Hank is controlling what is happening not you.
  15. I never had a problem when I had only female German Shepherds.
  16. what do you mean make it last longer? It reads like you are trying to cut down on costs already, are you sure you can afford to adopt this dog? You can't make food last longer, you feed what you need to feed to keep the dog healthy. You can feed a different dry food if you want but you still need to feed an appropriate amount.
  17. Glad all went well with Harry. Fingers crossed his recovery is smooth for you both :)
  18. Nothing special, they may get a big bone, but my dogs are able to be left alone, for hours, if needed.
  19. if this was my dog I would move heaven and hell to get her back. No if, buts or maybe's. The rightful owner has turned up, it was not their fault the dog was in the pound system long enough to be put up for adoption, it is not the pounds fault nor the new owners. But that dog is mine and I would be getting her back no matter how nasty it got. Years ago I did ask the question about what would happen if a dog was adopted out and then the owners turned up. The answer was the dog would have to go back and we were instructed to tell all new adopters if the original owner turned up within a certain time frame ( which I forget ) then they would have to hand the dog back. In fact it was on the paperwork they signed that they would give the dog back.
  20. You have judged the owner and found her guilty, it is written in all your posts how it is her fault. Do you not think she is kicking herself right now. How do you know that the person she has trusted has done this job for her several times in the past, with no problems? How about the trusted person got ill and they trusted someone else? How about the owner was a twit and trusted someone she shouldn't and now because of misplaced trust she deserves to lose her dog? What would the dog choose????
  21. The loving owner that left her with someone who couldn't even be bothered to tell her the dog was missing? How do you know the dog doesn't have a better quality of life with the new owners? Mia hadn't been off the property for 7 years. How can you hold the owner responsible for someone else's actions? It defies logic. She hasn't any control over the other person unless he was a remote conrolled robot and she held the remote!! Only she knows how well she knows and trusts the person that she left the dog with - I am assuming not very well. As I have mentioned before, I have been asked by a neighbour I only knew to say hello to to "pop over" and feed her dog for two weeks. She didn't know me or if I would call her if I went over to feed the dog one day and it had escaped the yard. How do you know this wasn't a similar circumstance? We don't know all the facts so it is unfair to say it is a cut and dried case of "give the dog back". The owner is the responsible for the situation - the dog wasn't chipped and she didn't leave the dog with someone trustworthy. Was someone staying with the dog or just feeding it? The family who went to the RSPCA, chose a new family member and went home to enjoy her is at fault?? The defies logic to me. Talk about a great way to stop people wanting to adopt a dog How do you know it's nothing like your scenario? Personally all this crap about turning people off adopting a dog is just that - crap. If they really cared for the dog they would return it. So what the dog wasn't chipped, not everyone agrees with them and if it wasn't a requirement of the council where her dog was registered then the owner has broken no laws. So what there was no collar or tags, lots of people don't agree with that either and the usual law is they have to be worn when off the owners property, if the dog is not off the property they don't have to be worn. So what it never got off the property, thousands of dogs don't and most of those thousands are perfectly happy with that situation. And no it is not the new owners fault but they should man up and do the right thing and return the dog. Lets hope your dog never get lost and then adopted out. Collars and chips are not fail safe means of ID.
  22. The loving owner that left her with someone who couldn't even be bothered to tell her the dog was missing? How do you know the dog doesn't have a better quality of life with the new owners? Mia hadn't been off the property for 7 years. yes the loving owner who has cared for Mia for 7 years. The loving owner who trusted someone to care for her dog and who didn't. I worked in a pound for 10 years and had a well loved dog turn up, supposed to be cared for by a trusted family friend. We kept the dog for well over it's pound time before PTS. We couldn't believe the owner would not be looking for this lovely old dog. When the owner came back from holidays the only reason they knew the poor dog had ended up in the pound was because they found an old copy of the paper where the dog was listed. It was elderly and they thought it had wandered off and died. Trusted family friend never looked for it cause the food they were putting out was being eaten, they assumed by the elderly dog even though they hadn't seen it in days. The owners thought they were doing the right thing by the dog by leaving it in familiar surroundings. I dealt with the owners, I had them crying on my shoulder, they were devastated all because they trusted a family friend. So it happens. Mia belongs back at her home.
  23. I feel really sad for the poor dog. So what the new owners think they have bonded with her so much they can't return her. What about the dog? I bet I know who Mia would pick and it wouldn't the be the nice kind hearted strangers that have been caring for her for 9 days. It would be her loving owner of 7 years. So if the new owners were actually that nice why would they not put the dog first? I would.
  24. yeah there are but what if your dog gets out and while out it snags itself on something and it releases the collar .. the dog wont have the id attached to it after, Seen it happen with our cat in her cat run many times with hers. breakaway collars are useless. I tried them on my dogs and they were pulled off multiple times when the dogs played. My dogs only wear collars when we are out and about at a show or on holidays.
