The Problem With Fake Service Dogs
Rebanne replied to SkySoaringMagpie's topic in General Dog Discussion
Can you imagine that happening with the person Kirislin mentioned. A physical impossibility! Riiiight. Now I get this! I just thought you were calling some poor person a fatty not that their dog was tiny. oh yeah she was a fatty and the dog was tiny -
and they have just arrived at midday 24th. Excellent service.

Sweet is the sleep that ends all pain. Bless you Neil.

There is no visible signs at all.

Fern has had ongoing back troubles for some time, xrays were clear, so I had an MRI done at Werribee Vet Hospital ( Uni of Melbourne ), they did a contrast and the area lit up like a Christmas tree. It is very uncommon. Needle aspirate was inconclusive so they then did a muscle biopsy. Found her disk problem at the same time. So it's just a wait and see and I was trying to find out how quick it might move cause if the crate rest doesn't help with the disk problem then that will need surgery but I don't want to do surgery if the lipoma will invade the spine any time soon. Don't think that would be fair to Fern. So I am hoping the enforced rest will fix the disk for a long time to come and the lipoma is very slow spreading, it could have been there for a long time already.

Thanks I hadn't heard of them either. It's a nasty piece of work, benign but dangerous cause they infiltrate to places they shouldn't. Not like the normal lipoma at all really. Best way I can describe it to myself is it's like the marbling in beef, fatty streaks all through the muscle but it doesn't stay there. I was in a bit of a flap when I first posted, couldn't see the wood for the trees, but had a long chat to the vet the next day and have come to terms with it. One step at a time.

no one? oh well lucky dogs and owners :)

The very best piece of advice I ever received went something like this: I imagine your dog has a pretty good life with you? Good food, nice beds etc. Then surely your dog can do what you want for a minute or two occasionally? All my thoughts of, oh he's only a baby, only a youngster, oh I don't like being firm went flying and from then on it was like what indigirl said. I will say stand, you will stand still, you will not break just because I make you do something. The difference in my attitude made the world of difference to my dog, I stopped being wishy washy. I do not know if it would have worked with my first show dog but it made a big difference with the others.

My link just bought two of the memory foams beds for a total of $75 and some cents, including postage, the exact same as on ebay for $50 each with free postage. Saved myself $25!

try ebay as well

Once confirmed in whelp. I do need to get it out there cause 1) there are never enough people wanting greyhound puppies and 2) the ones who think they might like a greyhound puppy never think they are available. There is a mating planned for next year and I do have that on my website, no details, just litter planned for 2014.

I have a Mazda and the back seats are down all the time. I have a cargo barrier behind my front seats. The back is full of vet bed under which is a waterproof hammock thingee and one foam mat. My dogs never jump up using the bumper bar, they clear it in a single bound :D but if they go in via the side doors they do seem to step in sometimes off the bottom of the door opening. It has a rough texture anyway and I don't look for scratches. :D

I am thinking of getting this type and put it on an ordinary foam mat ( the hession covered ones ) and make a cover like a fitted sheet to go over both to make sure they don't slip apart. Add some bolsters and hey presto a bed fit for a greyhound. They do like to hang their head over the edge or lay on something soft. Thank you all, yours posts have helped clarify in my mind exactly what I want.
-
yeah happens all the time, first when I had GSD, now with the greyhounds. I just ignore it. They are just a bunch of ignorant people. Of all races.
-
Yeah I'll be checking out my local buy, swap and sell sites. Got the couch that has to go up on one.
-
been searching ebay, can get a cheap innerspring single bed mattress and then add a memory foam topper to it. Big enough for both dogs to sleep on it. Might be the way to go and I'd have to make a divider of some sort cause Fern's a bitch and doesn't like sharing.
-
Thank you all. I feel a softish bed would not be too good for Fern. But those beds are beautiful Huski. A mattress is on the cards but I like the sound of the bolster bed. I looked at the K & H beds and they looked the bee's knees but at nearly $200 each, even though I am prepared to pay quite a bit, really needing 3, plus postage, does put them out of my price range kayla1. Brandiandwe do you have a link for your bolster beds?
-
Thank you Little Gifts, I will need something a bit more even and regular for Fern but you have reminded me I have a sewing machine and could quite easily whip up a couple of covers and put over some memory foam. It would most likely be cheaper then buying then but I am still hoping to hear from people whose dogs do have the memory foam.

Due to spinal issues Fern is no longer allowed on the furniture. I've sold one couch and the other will remain but be barricaded off limits with the Bunnings compost panels, thank Dog for them! Just so visitors do actually have somewhere to sit, otherwise it would go too. She will no longer be allowed on my bed either So I am looking for extra large dogs beds for Fern and Warrior. ( if she's not allowed neither is he ). They don't have to be super tough as they will be inside beds only but I was wondering about the memory foam mattress ones or the foam ones like an egg cartoon? At the moment all I really have are the hession mat's doubled up for inside with polar fleece blankies on top. Any new bed will also have the polar fleece on top. I think I would like ones with sides for winter time. I don't want to spend heaps on ones that the cushion is flat like a pancake in a short space of time but I am prepared to pay top dollar for ones that hold their depth. I'd need 3 ideally, 2 for the loungeroom and one for the crate in the bedroom. Any one's dogs have the memory foam or similar?

Fern has been diagnosed with this in her multifidus muscle, right next to her spine. Surgery is not an option as they will be unable to get clear margins, cells would be left behind which would spread. She has had an MRI and muscle biopsy. The MRI shows it is tracking to her spine. Fern also has a separate disk problem lower down, near her tail and has been on crate rest for this. At this point in time I am thinking the lipoma is her worst problem, google says it is highly invasive and the worry is it will get into her spine. I can't find anything that says how quick it is to spread. I'll shoot an email oof to the treating vet to ask but in the meantime I was wondering if anyone here has any experiences with this?

Congratulations! You'll see lots of amazing things over the next few weeks.

A Follow On Thread For Those Who Now Have Their Puppy
Rebanne replied to julesluvscavs's topic in Puppy Chat
Boy puppies have hair from the tip of the sheath, it certainly gets damp. I always trim it. But actual dripping, hmm, nearly a vet visit. I'd be watching closely and see if it's just because he won't stand still long enough to finish :D -
Sure due though it's only been two litters so far. I love it. Enjoy your babies.

but not tested as safe to use on breeding dogs, male or female. Just adding this info for others reading this thread.

Interestingly, Fergs got a stick stuck in his mouth when he was a wee pup. It was removed then-and-there by the vet and then I changed to PetPlan. Almost 6 years on "stick in mouth" is still an exclusion... I suppose cause it was so vague in my dogs case, dogs that play hard sometimes get hurt. Now we have a diagnoses with a disk problem it might be excluded as well but there is also no way to tell if the disk problem was the cause of the occasional visit to the vet way back then. I think you could get that exclusion lifted :D
