  1. I don't breed for the pet market, there really isn't one for greyhound puppies unless they are free. My next litter being bred is for me to get a bitch to breed on with and also show, but the breeding side is more important, one other pup is going to a show home most likely not for breeding. It is an outcross so not quite sure what will be produced for showing. The rest will be going to pet homes, we know this but we are not breeding for pet homes, they are a by product. If I was breeding a more popular breed, breeding a pet litter every now and again; yeah why not. I certainly don't think that breeders that do that are bad. I know breeders that have more popular breeds and breed them (registered)for pets to help subsidise their main breed who can be hard to home and have extra costs in the keeping of 1/2 dozen pups for a longer time.
  2. Boy greyhounds are the kings of dopey :D
  3. You need to read Steve's excellent post again. Do you have any idea how hard it is for some breeders to find good homes for their pups? We don't all breed cav's or golden's. Plenty of dodgy breeders on DOL eta the cav and goldie breeders also have to weed through potential homes, they just usually have a greater number of people interested in their breeds.
  4. I start advertising my pups once the bitch is confirmed pregnant, first emails to people do include a lot of information including price and the fact I will not know if there is a pup available for them until around 8 weeks.
  5. about 95% i'd say, Did you have people chasing a pup they could breed with to get height or speed in their pigging BA??? 95% that were good is good! The gumtree ones were 2 sending standard emails, I'll buy the whole litter thing, how much, when it was only one pup advertised and yes one was from a woman who got very irate I didn't want any greyhound of mine doing what it was bred to do, catch bunnies on her property. I looked her up and then reported her for selling underage pig dog pups  A few tyre kickers from the DOL listing including a couple of people who wanted to argue the breed with me, never having owned one, but google had told them several things (incorrect) and wouldn't believe me when I said their info was wrong. Except for one person who was new to showing, all my pups have gone to other greyhound show people in Australia and the 2 pet ones went to Hawaii. eta so I have found that there wasn't really much difference between quality of puppy buyers between DOL or Gumtree and only a tad more DOL enquiries then Gumtree ones. Too many cheap or free ones to be had
  6. Actually I will be interested to see what happens with my next litter, I wasn't really into FB then, I have many more contacts now.
  7. So Angeluca where all your enquires from DOL good ones? Cause I got a couple of doozies with my last litter from my DOL listing. And tyre kickers. And only 3 enquiries from Gumtree, none any good.
  8. why is that funny? cause you said all your breeder friends only needed their breed club and their DOL listing to sell their pups. So it makes it a bit harder for me when I don't have a breed club, nor a popular breed, or I too could be selling plenty of pups every year.
  9. What a load of rubbish. Next you'll say you should only breed when you have a full waiting list and some spares. Rubbish  Thanks for that, but typical posting from you I guess. I know many breeders who have quite a few bitches they breed regularly and have no problems finding homes for the pups. Breed clubs and dogzonline are all the advertising they need. I am sure they would use the trading post etc. if need be, but nobody I know needs to resort to that. My breed doesn't even have a breed club.
  10. I'm not sure if you are replying to me but in my experience the people who say you shouldn't advertise on places like Gumtree do usually follow it up with you shouldn't be breeding if you don't have plenty of homes lined up.

  12. depends on the breed of course. I only breed when I want a puppy. But nobody should be frowning on breeders who choose to have one or two litters a year and providing good quality pet puppies or show prospects to the public rather than only breeding every few years for a prospect for themselves. There are just not enough good quality breeders in my opinion. Nor puppies. Partly cause not everybody is breeding the popular breeds. If there is a shortage of cav's for instance, there is no way I am suddenly going to buy a couple and start breeding them. And nor should I as they are not my type of dog. But I have no problem with an ethical registered breeder, doing all the health testing their breed should have, supplying good quality pet pups. If I had the homes for my breed I might do the same.
  13. It's happening in the morning. The next dog might not be so lucky, poor Nova

  15. I'll advertise wherever there are potential buyers. I take no notice of others who say you shouldn't do that cause it just makes you as bad as them ( all the byb ). Someone said that just today on Face Book. When I got my second dog, way back when, you looked in the Age on a Saturday morning. I was looking for a German Shepherd and there were plenty to choose from. I got a purebred without papers, not sure why, but there were plenty of registered pups available.
  16. That's what I am looking forward to as well, but I am nearly there! Once my girl comes into season next (around March) she will be bred and hopefully have puppies :D Me too, leasing back a girl I bred, she is due in season end of Feb, so hopefully puppies, with a new one coming to live with me
  17. what surprises me is just how rude and condescending you and Jed are being. Well Jed doesn't surprise me but you do. When people are told they would be awful owners just because they work full time, then you can expect them to rise up. It was a blanket statement and you've taken it and run with it as well. Do you really think the objectors don't know what can happen if the dogs are neglected? Of course they do that's why they put the effort in to raise their pups well.
  18. 2 id's Jed? Sorry to say - that you are incorrect - again - with your assumption Rebanne ! I am sure that you have checked out my previous posts on this forum - as few as they are ! no I hadn't should I? where was I incorrect before?
  19. flame suit on but there was only one that appealed to me, a couple that left me cold, and the rest meh. I'm sure they are the right dogs for their owners but they are not right for me. So what I got out of that is, if I couldn't get the breed I want I wouldn't get a dog. Which surprised me a bit after owning them for over 30 years.
  20. Quite easy for me. If I couldn't get/breed a show bred greyhound I'd get a GAP one. I would not get a greyhound direct from a pound ever.
