  1. That was me last night, only took 2 hrs to fix instead of the 4 they thought. Hope it's the same for you
  2. why don't you show your current Basset? You just need to put her on the Neuter register. Then you get known by other Basset people. ( if she is suitable of course ) ETA or train her in the field you want to enter. I think you said she doesn't have the drive you are after but if you can get her to successfully do what you aim for that would be a feather in your cap.
  3. Wrong, show bred greyhounds are a rare breed and track racing is not the original purpose of the greyhound.
  4. Rawlinson only. Would not use Lavelle.
  5. I only showed for 2 years before breeding my first litter but had close to 30 years of dog ownership and competing in different fields with my dogs.
  6. most people don't get into breeding until after they have been showing for a while. So not so much of a problem. I dont know about that would be interesting to see some figures - there are a hell of a lot of people who breed but dont show too. yes I know there is, but from what I have seen a lot did show at the beginning, didn't like it, and went on to other things.

  8. nope, any one can part with cash and pass an open book exam.
  9. Just a warning everyone. I am now sitting under a ceiling fan only, no aircon cause the water has been cut. So even if you think you'll be right it pays to plan ahead. I thought to myself yesterday, should have the cool coats wet and stored for just in case. Well just in case has happened and I am having to get my daughter to bring me water over to wet down the coats as I don't want to use the drinking water I do have in the fridge on the coats as we all need to stay hydrated.
  10. I read it differently. To me it is saying any bitch you intend to breed under your prefix must also be in your name. You can't breed a bitch owned by someone else under your prefix, unless it is transferred into your name or leased to you. I now have a joint prefix. Any bitch I wish to breed under that prefix must be owned by the joint owners of that prefix. I no longer have a prefix under my name solely. If I owned the bitch and bred her I have no prefix so can't register the pups.
  11. I didn't find it of much use, full of links that don't work on a kindle.
  12. Plenty of different sorts to choose from. My friends and I were in 2 that had a large covered verandah between them. Could easily set up a few crates there.
  13. I have to agree with Sheridan, that it is often a term used to dissuade people from purchasing from breeders - which is no less of an "adoption". Especially coined by the phrase "Don't Shop, Adopt" which is usually used in anti-breeder advertising. I consider the term "adoption" is used in dog rescue as a marketing tool. If money is being exchanged then the dog is being bought. I'm talking about race bred greyhounds though, I think it's a whole different ball game. I don't. The dog is still being bought, a certain dog is still chosen over others, others still get left behind. Maybe all sales of pets should be called adoptions? Instead of saying greyhound pups for sale I should be saying greyhound pups ready for adoption? I'm going to try this with my next litter. Will be interesting to see if I get more inquires.

  15. Those Bunning compost panels do very well for blocking access to the front seat of a car. I imagine with some thought you might be able to make a custom crate for your back seat. Only needs to last a few nights. Add in a baby monitor and you'll be set.
  16. There is the added danger of carbon monoxide poisoning in an undercover car park to be aware off particularly if it is underground and a window is cracked.
  17. Glad all is well. One of my dogs did this and I just cut it off above the break, out in the back yard. It did grow back in a bit crooked so had to keep an eye on it for extra nail trimming.
  18. http://www.avina.com.au/ lots of dog people stay here, I did a couple of years ago with a few friends, it was fine.
  19. I mentioned it to my vet a few years ago but when I got Fern desexed I had forgotten about it.
  20. The dog has been at the house longer then two days and would you wish to be treated by a nurse who has only had 3 or 4 hrs sleep? The OP is trying to do the right thing but you (generic) do need to consider everyone that is being affected by this
  21. I have to say as a nurse who works night shift I would not be very tolerant at all. I'd give you a week at the most. Night shift really screws you up and then not to be able to sleep and then be expected to be on your game while looking after patients, yeah it's not easy. Talk to the breeder. As Nekhbet says it's not going to be a quick fix if the dog has never lived alone before.
