  1. Thanks Juice! If you could Perrin that would be awesome! Thank you! I don't have enough Dally experience (sadly ) to know by looking at her whether she is big, little or average for a Dally so if I get a few measurements I'll probably take an average of that and then I think the collars can be adjusted as well, so it should work
  2. hey :) I did find some images using google. roach back: http://www.pedigreedatabase.com/german_shepherd_dog/bulletins.read?mnr=271081&pagen=1 cow hocks (you have to scroll down): http://www.jindos.com/jindo/appearance/body.html flat feet (again scroll down): http://community.dog.com/forums/t/7417.aspx flat pasterns: http://judgesl.com/Borzoi/rungear.html
  3. newsensation Cleo, I really appreicate that! here is the link for you: https://www.facebook.com/#!/BigStinkyDog sure is! You know me too well :D
  4. Yes mantle Danes can be shown :) That is the minimum height, you would have trouble finding a pedigree male Dane that is that is only 32 inches. Most of the ped females are bigger than that. There are plenty of entire male Danes that hit 80kgs without being fat.
  5. I have found someone who makes gorgeous collars and I would like to get one for some friends of ours who own a female Dally. I would love to keep it a surprise for them :) So I was hoping someone with a Dally could please measure their neck for me so I can get the right size?
  6. Our dog is the same! Except in our case we know why. She just happened to be in the way when a fizzed up bottle of soda water was opened and got drenched with it
  7. love the droplet and the colours in your winter one The ant is very cool too. I really like that cross-processing filter in Picasa. If I'm not careful I'm going to use it on everything  gives such a nice feel doesn't it?
  8. It is not a nice thing for people to take in stray dogs! They need to handed over incase their real owners are looking for them! I don't think that picking the dog up at 7am after it was collected the afternoon before shows that he wasn't doing anything about it. I think that's a fairly reasonable timeframe actually, especially when we have no idea about his other commitments. I agree with you that roaming dogs are very annoying and shouldn't be happening. Why did the ranger not do anything about the dog who actually bit people when they seemed to be very prompt about solving this situation. I would be more worried about a dog that was actually aggressive than a dog that was bigger but had always shown itself to be friendly.
  9. Here's hoping that they're both desexed... yeah hopefully its not that kind of friendship!
  10. Oh my Dog Dandybrush! What have Razzle and Willow done!?
  11. I have not heard of any problems with blue Danes here in Australia. But, when I was on a Dane forum that was primarily populated with US members, I found out that blue Danes over there were suffering from similar problems as the Blue Staffords are here, i.e. blue became a very popular colour and a lot of people began unethically breeding for the blues, with no care for health, structure and temperament. Consequently there were a lot of blue Danes suffering from allergies and bad skin and a multitude of other problems as well.
  12. The dog should be o.k. :) His owners will most likely pick him up and have learnt a lesson about keeping him better confined. Sounds like him and the other dog have developed a nice friendship though :)
  13. Like Snook said, these photos have really nice composition and I think you'll have a blast with an slr :)
  14. But even with all the campaigns we still have drunk drivers killing people, we still have a massive drug problem. If people dont want BSL to fully come into force then they need to come up with something better than just saying we need to educate. I'm sorry but it wont be enough. I have to agree with kirislin. I think we have a tendency in our society to see education as a panacea for everything, however there really is a limit to what it can achieve. From personal experience I would think that there is less dog bites now than when I was a kid and there were many, many more roaming dogs. These dogs had a tendency to defend their territory against anyone coming in. I remember as a kid having whole streets we would avoid whole streets because of dogs that would be roaming there. So I would think the introduction of leash laws have had a good effect on reducing the number of dog bites and attacks. And I guess more could still be done to reduce this. I think reducing the quantity of dog bites that occur within someone's property would be a lot harder.
  15. I love it too :) The light really puts that gorgeous bump at centre-stage. Then I notice her head position, and her face, the closed (or nearly closed?) eyes and it to me it is very inward looking; like all her attention is on that little baby growing inside. The fact that she's not looking out the window is really good. Its kind of what I'd expect her to be doing, and the fact that she is not doing that adds a lot of meaning and feeling.
  16. there is something really intrigueing about this shot. Maybe it's partly because her face can't be seen, but its more than that. I feel that the way she's sitting really speaks about those late stages of pregnancy, the tiredness, because it feels like she's just getting out of bed... but also something about the way she's siting makes me think of the impending labour. Sorry, I think what I've said is a bit arty farty, but I didn't mean it to be, I just found that the pic was really spoke to me :)
  17. I think that sounds good I found that my dogs have been doing even better on raw since I increased the amount of veges (which include lentils) that they get. Danois, why wouldn't you feed pork? I want to know because Dig and Del get a bit of pork (lol).
  18. yep that's waht I was thinking, I would be looking in the journal databases for this info :) Would definitely be worthwhile to sign up to a Uni library if you have one near you :)
  19. he looks sooo cute! Gotta love that smile too :)
  20. And this is another reason why I think the micro-chip database should have a space for the Registered Breeders Prefix/Name and contact details. 1) You will know it's a registered purebred pedigree dog 2) Call the breeder if you can't contact the owner 3) Let the breeder know it's been found to collect it if the owner can not be found yep I love this idea
  21. but what about in the case that is in General at the moment? That dog looks like it is in fact a purebred dog. Wouldn't it be helpful to have these threads so people who have adopted from the pound or rescue and have suspicions that there dog is purebred and want some help to work out whether it is or isn't? I personally don't have any problem with people asking even with a dog that is obviously a mutt. People are just curious that's all. I accept my dog is a mutt, but still occasionally wonder if he's a cross and what breeds went into him, or wonder whether he is from a long line of mutts.
  22. sorry not quite sure what you mean MontyMonster? I just ticked some boxes about the length I needed, whether it was on the ground or not, and whether I wanted battery, solar, or mains supply. Everything was in the kit.
  23. I do apologise for my part in taking the thread off track. It wasn't my intention to make someone feel like the needed to tear their hair out! All I can say is people who think you're a snob for owning a pedigree just need educating. Or if they are of the sort that are frimly set in their beliefs then Oh well! Just as long as you are confident that you are happy with your decisions then that is the important thing. You know that you've made decisions that fit with your ethics so just enjoy that feeling and show your beautiful, ahppy and healthy dogs off to all those people that appreciate them :)
  24. Point taken. But I REFUSE to buy a pup that's been desexed already. It may be in the best interests of dog welfare generally but in my view it is NOT in the best interests of the individual dogs I really do understand where you're coming from about that. I guess sometimes there is just no perfect solution. and I don't at all have a problem with people preferring pedigree over rescue or vice versa :) I'm honestly just so happy when anyone makes the choice to either go resposnible rescue or responsible breeder!
  25. Bit OT: there are usually puppies in the pound where we live. I myself have fostered I *think* five puppies from the pound. I worked really hard to socialise them really well (neutral and positive values to the appropriate things), and they had wonderful temperaments. And no I'm not exaggerating. They were lovely confident and even-tempered puppies that took to all their new experiences like ducks to water. I have had really positive feedback from their owners. So it is possible to get a puppy from rescue that isn't carrying a temperament/socialisation burden from its dodgy origins. Just wanted to get it out there in case people are interested in adopting puppies from rescue.
