I think it's really important to consider what your child likes doing with a dog. Does he like patting, cuddling, and quiet time with a dog? Does a dog exert a calming influence on him just by being around? Or does he like to play fetch, or take the dog on walks? Some breeds would be better suited to one or the other, so this will help you make a good choice :)

Hi Kathy :) It is also might be worth your while to contact Righteous Pups: http://www.righteouspups.org.au/

Poor boy The only thing I'd like to add is that once you have the problem fixed it would be worthwhile to treat his ears weekly with something like epiotic, that can help prevent yeast and other infections occurring. Good luck and definitely get it swabbed :)

oh that is lovely very atmoshperic!

That's a great idea :)

:p looks can be deceptive ! She takes after her mum, whose name describes her nature , "Bitch" She is showing good promise as a worker ,(spends most of her free time 'working' Bruce, the pet sheep) , so here's hoping ! nup I just can't believe that from the photo you have posted

that is lovely, she looks like a very sweet puppy :) Love the name too.

yeah, I was pretty shocked that she just couldn't help herself  But I am a Wagga girl myself and our local papers certainly don't do any candid shots at all! So maybe she just couldn't get it! I actually think the camera wasn't the best for this shoot. It didn't seem to have a good ability to handle low-light, which didn't make it easy for them with a lot of activity going on indoors. What mainly surprised me was that she didn't choose one of the shots with the greyhounds which would have fitted the brief. It certainly gave me an appreciation of just how challenging photojournalism is.

This coming weekend there is one at Temora, and I think the weekend after one at Harden. So roughly the same area! hmmm that could be it SSM, I cryptically wrote 'dog show' I didn't write where :)

Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Without Health Issues.

Oh Arcane that is really sad Would you consider asking their owners where they got their Cav's from? Would be interesting to determine whether they were all coming from the same place. -
Is There Any Things Said About Your Breed...
raineth replied to Baileys mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
A lot of people do actually think that kids can ride Great Danes. And sometimes when I enlighten people on this topic they are really dispointed and ask "what is the point in having one then?" -
yes I agree. There are people up the road from me with pig hunting dogs. One day when I was walking past their house I saw a hog (dead) hanging in the back of their ute. There was not a mark on it apart from the obvious one not made by a dog. The pig didn't look like it had been bitten let alone mauled. I don't know if everything these people do is ethical ofcourse, but that hog had seemed to have been killed humanely.
-
What do these cowboys do to their dogs though? I know that's a potentially impossible question to ask because there could be so much variation... but do they actually train these dogs in any way to do the hunting? I thought perhaps the younger dogs/pups learn what to do from the older experienced pigging dogs. But that is just a guess.

Hey Popsicle, The list sounds great, and I think you're doing a really good job At the end of the day you can only lead a horse to water, you can't make it drink. Hopefully if you keep leading her in the way you're doing you will have some success! I think if you can at all make it happen, head along to a dog show with her where she can hopefully have her heart and mind captured by some of the dogs there :)
-
I wonder if everyone needded a permit to pig hunt whether some of the 'cowboys' would be reduced. Or whether it would just be impossible to regulate anyway. Pig hunting is pretty big around here, but there are no state forests here at all that I know of. So I'm sure it would nearly all be done on private property.
-
Do pig hunters need a permit? Or can anyone go and hunt feral pigs?

Thankyou Woodys! I don't know where I got those other date from

I had it down on my calendar that this Fri, Sat and Sun there was going to be a dog show on here in Wagga. I went to double check it, and now all I can see is that there is going to be one on in August instead; and I couldn't at all find where I got the idea from that there was one on in Wagga this weekend. Could ayone clarify for me when the dog show on please? thanks :)

Yeah but aloof is different to being aggressive. I have an aloof dog, he doesn't care for attention from those outside his pack, but it doesn't lead him to be aggressive either. The owner said they would bite her, so I would class that as aggressive.
-
I was just referring to the inverse of this statement Rebanne :) probably in too much of a simplistic fashion. Yeah I've heard of DINOs, as I said before, I was offering one possible explanation for the dogs' responses.
-
why is it so hard to believe that some dogs are not born perfect? I think you've misunderstood, I could ask you, why do you think all aggressive dogs have bad temperaments? I was just suggesting one possible reason for their aggressive behaviour :) Just as you were suggesting that they could just have poor temperaments.
-
I could be reading this wrong, but I don't think cheekymonster was saying the owner was irresponsible. They were just saying it was a bit of shock?
-
hmmm, that is interesting. I know what you mean, he seems very responsible, and the dogs well-behaved, so you would expect that they've been well socialised, and therefore to be human-friendly. I wonder if he neglected their socialisation in that area? The neighbours across the road never socialised their Beagle, and now he gets out, he is so terrified of other people that you can't get within about twenty metres of him before he freaks out, I hope he doesn't get run over one day.

Just finished watching TLC :) The winning image was my fave. The others never seemed to include enough of the model in the picture.
