Ballarat (8 Oct) & Bacchus Marsh (9 Oct)

How lovely to see that number of Veterans. I love watching these classes. I would love to see them in the lunchbreak (yes I know that is when Junior handlers are on), so more would see them. They are our history. Good luck to everyone showing, and a special GOOD LUCK for ALL the Veterans. -
My previous post mentioned it's use for horses, only fairly recently in Australia but for years in the UK( I have used it myself with horses but I did not find it of any significant benefit so stopped) . What my concern was that beet pulp MUST be soaked before feeding to horses as it expands alarmingly and yes I know their systems are totally different from dogs I wondered if that would affect dogs if fed dry. Is it necessary in dog food? I think for dogs there are other ways for them to get fibre and yes in the wild the fibre was gained from what was in the preys stomach as well as the hair that would have been consumed. I think a lot of feeding is getting way too complicated and confusing to many people who are trying to do the best for their dogs. A simple well balanced diet is the way to go, whether you choose raw or commercial.

I don't have any experience with it with dogs as mine are fed raw but it is interesting that it is in dog's food because when fed to horses it MUST always be well soaked beforehand as it expands really dramatically. It is very high in fibre. Of course the amount would be minimal in the dog food, so I am not really sure of the benefit maybe someone else can explain.

I use the Jalna with the green top (low fat). I think that you are pretty safe with any Plain yoghurt, yoghurt is pretty low fat anyway. The only thing to watch with the flavoured ones are the sugar content which can be quite high.

You will often see a dog that is winning regularly be it because it is a good example of the breed or not siring a number of litters. I often hear from breeders saying that they are going to use so and so cause it is so good and has won so much. I have seen grand champions that have the wrong movement and yet they continue to be put up. I am not saying that all judges are face judging but it is starting to get beyond a joke. I am more than happy to see a dog win consistantly if it is good, but when it is a bad example of the breed it is giving false hopes to the owner/breeder/handler. It is also interesting to see some of the dogs that are winning consistantly at all breeds can not win at a specialty. In the past 20 years I have seen a lot of things change in the show world but you have to wonder why there is less and less people showing now than then. Leanne I agree with what you have written Leanne and the bolded text above has hit the nail on the head! Ditto from me.

Fabulous news Well done to you and Odin I once said "A good horse is never a bad colour" may take a bit longer than the more predominate colours, but the reward for you is oh so sweet! CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU BOTH!!!!!!!!

Yesterday at the Greensborough Show at Bulla, Kathy Blair's Shetland Sheepdog bitch Ch.Meega Gypsy Music finished off her Grand Champion Title. This gives Kathy and James a matching pair having two "Meega" grand champions in less than two years. With a sad year last year this is especially lovely for Kathy. Marj Howard of Meega Kennels has had a very rough last couple of years and this has given her such a thrill, having bred both Grand Champion Meega Champagne Lover and now "Miss Dell" from her lovely "old boy" Ch. Nigma Sirius ROMA. This should also give any of the "small guys" out there encouragement to hang in there if you have confidence in your dog and its' quality. It can be done!!!! ;)

Oh, yes It would be good if I said what it was! "THE BIONIC VET" at 8pm. On ABC.
-
I have just watched a great new series that aired on ABC tonight and can highly recommend it. It is amazing.

I have to say I totally agree with you here and yes that's just my opinion. I think the UK way of showing is more sensible including moving at a sensible pace and not like a bat out of hell!

We have had rain ,but nothing like the last few week. Both venues will be fine. Looking forward to this weekend.

A Great Rescue Story About Two Pit Bulls And Their Pups
hollee replied to Mila's Mum's topic in In The News
Thank you for posting this. The looks on the faces of these dear dogs says it all...... And the battleworn face of Chester just brought tears to my eyes having been through so much and yet so trusting. And Birdie giving her rescuer a kiss when reunited with her mate. The animal world can sure teach us a lot and I have nothing but admiration for anyone who works in the field of rescue wherever they may be. Angels all of them
