  1. Leo is so lovely and funny!! I've never heard him bark - is that a new thing? Yes Jess, we have a greyhound named Colour (because she's not grey!). We've had her since last winter, and she is awesome. She has learnt to sit, and we are working on drop. She is very good at "lay still on floor for hours at a time" already! On the Sunday of the Medowie weekend we are probably picking up a foster greyhound for her to play with until it gets a new forever home. I'm not sure whether it will be a boy or girl yet - a surprise. I went to an old guy's place to buy some steel posts today and he said he had greyhounds so I got to go and meet them. They are such beautiful dogs - all wriggly and kissy through the doors of their pens. I just love them! I might bring Colour to say hello at one of the shows. I've been planning to, but always seem to have too many others with me.
  2. Nice to meet you the other evening...sorry that you weren't feeling too great!! Regarding Maitland, I didn't realise it was an Ag show..I was going to take Maja along but if the parking is appauling (have to park 2 klms away & pay an entry fee) & the rides are going to be making a hell of a racket, then I might reconsider & go and have a look at Erskine Park the next day! Yep I think your on the money with that idea especially if shes only starting to get used to things, I think it might be too much for her! Come along to medowie next weekend thou Kite would love to meet a bloodhound...she will be baffled at first then will be up for a good play and she is a great play mate not too pushy and a total softy! Yeah count me in for another person who didn't realise Maitland show was The Maitland Show ... I'm not going to bring Archie into the showgrounds at 13 weeks - but he should be coming to Medowie the following weekend Kite will love Maja I'm sure .... Morty thought she was divine! Archie is quite the cutie..I'm glad others will come along to Medowie. What day is everyone going..... Saturday or Sunday? I'll definitely be there Saturday (not sure if I'll have a min pin entry yet or not ) and hopefully Sunday - although I might have a Greyhound get-together in Newcastle that day (to pick up our new foster grey!) so I'll have to wait and see. I don't think I'll take any dogs to Maitland as I think it will be too much for my baby Dragon too! Min pin is too gross and maremma too big, so I think I'll just bring the kids. We could bring Vivi to say hi, I guess. Are you allowed to walk around the showground with the dogs, since there is a dog show on? I can't WAIT to get into a ring again! I'm trying to get Chester fit for the shows in March & April so he has been included in my morning 4k walks - he doesn't even break into a pant. I was quite a sight this morning with 2 min pins, one Aussie and a greyhound all on lead! It's all okay until one of them decides to go to the toilet!
  3. Congratulations Ash!! I am looking forward to meeting all the newbie newbies!! Did Nicky get to see Toby walking straight tonight Bec??? He has always looked lovely stacked. I can't wait to catch up with everyone. Deb
  4. At just over 2 weeks my most recent babies were escaping the box so we removed that and had a piece of marine carpet in one area with bedding on top and another area with newspaper and the remainder was left as bare lino. While I was spending time with them and once I started to wean I made sure that everytime I was there and they woke up I moved them to the newspaper. As they grew and had time outside, they were fed out on the grass and toileting soon after. If the weather was poor I'd feed them inside, wait a few minutes and doa quick trip out to the grass and they'd all go and we'd race back inside :D At 8 weeks of age they were very rarely toileting overnight and if they did it was on the newspaper and first thing in the morning I'd open the pen door and they'd run down the hall and out front and toilet on the grass. Not a bad effort for 8 week old babies. Okay, so basically I was lazy and didn't move them to the appropriate areas! Oh well, I'll follow your plan for the next lot! I think we might save up for some vetbed too - can you get Aussie hair off it easily?
  5. We used HEAPS of newspaper with marine carpet up one end covered with polar fleece/sherpa. I'm going to throw the carpet out (I had 2 pieces) as I just can't get all the Aussie hair off it! I was going to throw the polar fleece/sherpa (not sure which it is) as well, but decided to have a go at washing it and after it went through the dryer it came out almost like new. Mind you, the filter on the dryer was absolutely clogged with hair and brown fluff, but the blanket came up well! I think that the fleece was actually a bit hot for our lot as Viviane kept digging it up, so in the end the pups were on the newspaper most of the time (the weather was really warming up by then). The biggest mistake we made was that the puppies came to think of newspaper as bedding, and not toileting substrate so they weren't paper trained. Every time they'd get off the newspaper onto the slate floor they would wee! Our fault entirely, so I'd like to know how others who use newspaper as bedding avoid that. I guess making sure that the newspaper is only down one end of the box, and that they have something else to sleep on would help - which is what we did with the carpet/fleece until they kept ripping it up and then just flopping on the newspaper.
  6. I got lazy with Aurea - figured it will be stinking hot at Maitland (sorry, but that's my forecast based on every other year I've been there), she's a big girl and doesn't handle the heat well, and the crowds might be a bit much for her. She'll be entered from mid-March though because she's a minor! Chester - ringworm! I took him to the vet yesterday and that's what it seems to be. I think after the puppies mauled him with their sharp little fangs that the fungi took over because of all this bloody awful hot, sticky weather. I'm treating him with Maloseb so hopefully he'll be cleared up and cover up his spots quickly. He has about 4 spots. Everyone else is good, thank goodness.
  7. Me too! Although I can't show Chester this weekend as he has a skin condition. I'll be there to say hello, though!
  8. I think I have pushed Tom's patience to its limits - but I have tried so hard to get it right! He does an excellent job, and I've tried to make it easy but it just doesn't work. Ash please feel free to beat me about the head if you think I am wrong about anything - I won't be offended.
  9. Bugger, bugger, bugger!!!! I only thought of it when I was driving home today - I'm sure I didn't do that with Chester. I am obviously just too keen and can't wait to have some fun with him. :D Looks like the Hillsborough ones will be his debut then. I'm too scared to ring up as I have a history of show entry "problems" (I think I must talk myself into them).
  10. Thanks for the Leo photo, Jess - he is looking gorgeous!! I think if I met him and a pug (thanks for your cute photo too, Sammy) on a dark, dark night I might just be able to tell them apart. :D Now, I am hideously embarrassed and feeling quite stupid, but I think I entered Dragon in the Medowie shows before he's 3 months old. I have been counting down the weeks until he is 12 weeks old (which I think is 3 months old), but that's not right for show entries is it? Do they have to be 3 calendar months - ie. for him that would be 1st March. I have entered baby puppies before, but haven't really thought about the start of it, and by the end of the "baby" stage I am definitely going by calendar months and not counting weeks. Can someone clear this up for me? Hey ...I am kinda slack around here..Lol. And who you callin pug??! Ar, well I can't wait to see the big girl!! Where will you be at next? Leo is at a stand still at the moment, not growing much- well not much for me to notice..I still look at his head sometimes though and think when is it going to stop!!! His grossness is pretty much gone! Atlast! His fur is looking great there now! But his coat change is still in full swing, and he looks like he has a giant bleached spot right on his bum! We are doing our best with the furminator and stripping block to get rid of it but it's bloody stubborn! We are going to be at Maitland, and Medowie (both the sat shows but not sun).
  11. Costs $2 and goes for roughly an hour / an hour and a half, depends how long you stand around and talk and when Nikki arrives...and how many dogs turn up! Hey Jess! Good to see you in here! I have to laugh - every time I see Leo's avatar pic out of the corner of my eye I think he's a pug! I would love to see him again soon! Aurea must nearly be as big as him now. How are his hot spots/funny bits going?
  12. Hi Hunterhound! Welcome to showing and the forum!! If you send me a private message via this forum with your email address I can email you a copy of a show entry form in the morning. I look forward to meeting you and your BH girl. Deb She can do Sweeps and Baby Puppy. The classes for each age are listed on the back of the entry forms. It would be great to see more Bloodhounds at shows. I rarely see any around here. OK...now this is a really dumb question but as I haven't even seen an entry form, I need to ask this - are the entry forms generic & obtained from Dogs NSW? If this is the case then classes etc. will be noted on the back of these forms? Thanks for any help you can give!! Cheers
  13. Hi LOTG, Well done with Junior in Breed! Good luck with the shelter. What sort are you going to get now?
  14. Well guys, we slipped off the first page of the "Show Ring" topic list again - no posts for 4 days!!! Sammy - how's the new puggy??? How was Armidale? Have you got your National Dog Annual yet? I found the lovely Kite in there!! :D I have entered Chester & Dragon for Medowie, Chester for Maitland before that - all three of them (Chester, Dragon & Aurea) are entered for the March Hillsborough shows so I am going to be FLAT OUT!! :D Aurea goes up into Minors for that - she is getting huge! Chester Bear, all 2.8kg of him, killed one of my full-grown pekin roosters yesterday - all by himself, as he was the only dog out in the front yard. ;) I am sick of digging holes to bury things here!!! It's like the poultry House of Horrors lately! He's had his retained canines out too (obviously doesn't need them to bring down a chicken) and his damned ears have gone all soft again - I'm hoping it is just temporary, as they were standing fully up before. I am wondering whether it is something to do with the anaesthetic from the dental op??? Dragon has been practising on lead and is going really well. He gets a bit stubborn at boundaries (ie. change from tiles to carpet, through doorways, over cracks in the concrete etc) but he is food-motivated and moving along nicely. I think he'll be good in a couple of weeks. He had his 2nd vaccination today so he's just about ready to get out and meet the world. Any news anyone?? Deb
  15. Here's our very first home-bred show dog - BrandyArk The Pendragon (Dragon to his friends ) This was taken at 8 weeks - he's now 9 1/2 weeks so I'm about to put his first show entry in for the end of Feb!
  16. we'll be in the baby line-up together come March 20 :p those will be my little girls first shows (Novocastrian Ladies @ Hillsborough)! Fun, Fun!! :p I'm going to do some entries today (so I don't forget and miss out). Thanks poocow - I'll need all the support I can get! Hopefully you'll be out in the working ring before too long as well! If you guys have ya babies in swepies you will be in the line up with mums new little man...she has changed his name...it is now Clueso! How cute!!! Is it next week she gets him??

  18. What the .. I thought matt was very well behaved indeed. Did someone say something about him being there my only complaint is you should have been under my gazebo so you guys didnt get burnt. Had i not been grooming le brat i may have remembered my manners and offered. My fluffy was curious of matt and matt didnt seem phased. Some toy owners really need to get out more....
  19. ???????? Did I miss something? I don't remember Matt eating anyone?
  20. I'm going to try leaving the 'sgusting muddy Aussie pups outside in the kennel tonight - they are quiet out there at the moment, and they are covered in grot so I might see if they'll stay snuggled up in the outside kennel until morning. The good thing with Aussie coats is that when they dry, the dirt just falls off! Awesome fur! Would you like to send Toby out here for a holiday Bec? When I had Biddy here (the silky terrier) I would spend about 10 minutes picking whole leaves, sticks and weeds out of her coat every time she came inside! This is definitely not Hav country out here! Squeaky clean min pins, on the other hand, are asleep on their bed inside. Poor Chester Bear had 4 canines removed at the vet's yesterday! I think the anaesthetic really knocked him around, as I picked him up around 3pm and he really did nothing but sleep all afternoon and all night. He's been eating okay and seems happy today. When I weighed him before his op, he weighed in at 2.8kg! Huge! One of Leo's teeth would probably weigh as much as Chester! I got the registration papers for the pups in the mail today - I tried to register them online on Thursday, had Dogs NSW ring me Thursday afternoon to say they didn't have Vivi's hip/elbow scores so I posted them Express Post on Friday. Got an email yesterday to say the registration had been processed and they were in the mail to me. I got home from work today to find all 5 registration certificates waiting in my mail box! Great effort Dogs NSW - especially Linda!! I can start entering Dragon in some shows - he's old enough 3 weeks from today!!
  21. Enforcing it is going to be another thing! Remember the lady who was on RSPCA Rescue a few months back with over 100 breeding dogs in a shed? Well I think RSPCA seized about half a dozen, and she surrendered about the same again. I spoke to Council not long after and they know she still has around 120 dogs. What have they done about it? NOTHING. My friend lives 2 doors down and there have been cars there almost every day this week, and 3 ads in the local paper for 3 different breeds of pup for sale. She is in a semi-rural subdivision, only on a smallish block (under 2 acres would be my guess). Joke! (Not a very funny one). :D

  24. That looks great, goldiegirl. I can relate to the hand under the neck look!
  25. Hey poocow - that is a great idea with the 2 chairs. I haven't heard of that before. Thanks Bec, I was very proud of Chester Bear yesterday - especially after I got the awesome photos of him courtesy of poocow! The thing that made me happiest was how relaxed and happy he looks in the photos! Well done to everyone else who showed well - whether or not it was reflected in points!
