  1. I just had another look at that last shot this morning - look at the window! It looks like there must be another devil dog outside that I didn't notice - see the eyes?
  2. Here are some pics of my gorgeous Aurea at 10 months. Firstly - outside in the cold, she could be the star of her own horror movie: (Not sure why, but she was licking & chewing the glass! It makes for great fang shots! ) But inside.... what an angel - just a sweet baby puppy!! We love this girl!
  3. Not a SINGLE min pin entered. And we couldn't be there as we have our club's obedience trial on. Good luck everyone - it sounds like it should be an exciting weekend.
  4. I thought I'd bring this thread back to life. Is anyone at all doing the Morisset show on Sunday 25th of July? Anyone??? I know Dotty, Ash & Poocow aren't.... Bec? Jess?
  5. I received one reply, after which we cleared up the difference between "inference" and "implication". Happy to see pics of lovely dogs - just think they need someone else handling the PR/advertising side of it. That is a better angry face, RubyStar!
  6. I've already replied to the girl who sent the email, suggesting they might want to think about their wording and will follow it up with Dogs NSW and ANKC. I just can't believe how dumb the wording is - for dog's sake, why put it out there like that in black & white? Not the smartest thing I've read lately.
  7. I am all for advertising your own wins and other successes - everyone is entitled to do this and I love seeing photos of successful dogs in the magazine. I was however highly "offended" (read lots of other words into this) by the implication contained within this email. We all know it happens, but to have it sanctioned in correspondence from Dogs NSW is a disgrace. (and I think there should be an angrier emoticon than that one too )
  8. Their customer service is excellent. I emailed them the other day asking them to confirm that their products contained NO meat or by-products from horses (something that's important to me) and had an emailed confirmation within half an hour - stating that they do not contain any horse meat or by-products.
  9. I used Coprice for a while with no problems, but then again my dogs don't seem to have any major health issues. I decided to go with Uncle Albers/Great Barko instead due to the fact that it seems more meat-based whereas Coprice has quite a high grain %.
  10. Gotta look forward to these two getting back together and having kids when they get out of jail, haven't you!
  11. I (like every other Aussie breeder in Australia, I guess) received this email from the Dogs NSW Marketing Division this morning, urging me to advertise in the upcoming Aussie feature. Good morning, Just letting you know that there is an Australian Shepherd Spotlight coming up in Dogs NSW magazine! Dogs NSW is distributed to 11,000 members monthly, making it the largest purebred dog magazine in Australia. It is a great opportunity to showcase your success, promote your kennels/litters or get yourself noticed by the judges and we have a feature all about Australian Shepherds in October. Is this really what our Canine Council should be promoting - that breeders with the greatest financial resources are automatically the ones whose dogs are put up at shows??? Isn't it about judging the dogs on the day??? This is a joke. Yes I'm new to showing, and yes, I know about "face judging" - but to have the practice blatantly encouraged by the body which is supposed to protect the interests of all members and not just those who can afford to pay $1700 for a double-page spread?? Disgusting.
  12. http://www.thedenverchannel.com/news/19185595/detail.html BOULDER, Colo. -- Boulder police are investigating a domestic spat that they say escalated into animal cruelty when a woman wrapped her boyfriend's dog in packing tape then stuck it on the side of the refrigerator. Officers responded to an apartment on the 2900 block of Aurora Avenue early Tuesday, after getting a call about a disturbance in progress. They found several items strewn about the apartment and cola stains on the floor and on the wall. According to the police report, the tenant, Bryan Beck, told officers that he and his girlfriend, Abby Toll, began arguing after they returned to his apartment and found that his dog had defecated on the carpet. While Beck was telling officers what happened, there was a rustling sound in the kitchen. That's when officers noticed a big ball of tape stuck on the side of the refrigerator. "The ball of tape appeared to be moving," said Sarah Huntley of the Boulder Police department. "The officer asked the individuals what it was and the female replied it was a dog." Police said the dog, an 8-month-old Shiba Inu named Rex, was taped to the fridge upside down and was struggling to free itself. When they asked how long it had been there, Toll said about 20 or 30 minutes. Investigators said the couple had been at odds over Rex after he had bitten Toll the week before. "She wanted him to get rid of the dog, he didn't want to," Huntley said. According to the report, Toll was trying to tend to a wound on the dog when it bared its teeth and growled at her. She became scared and then upset. She wanted to get back at Beck and teach the dog a lesson, so she bound its snout and legs with elastic hair bands and taped it to the fridge. The report goes on to say that when Beck saw the dog he said, "Take him down, you are so sick." Toll became angry and said, "No, you are sick for not caring enough about me to get rid of the dog.” That's when Toll decided to go back to her apartment. The report said Beck blocked her way. She reached for her cell phone and Beck grabbed it from her. She began throwing things at him, then grabbed her Chihuahua named Peanut and headed for the door. That’s about the time that police arrived. Huntley told 7NEWS that when the officer tried to remove the tape and elastic bands from Rex, he yelped in pain. Both he and Peanut were taken to the Human Society. "I'm absolutely sickened," said Lisa Pedersen, chief executive officer of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. "No matter what was going on with these animals, they did not deserve this treatment." Pedersen said that Rex and Peanut are stressed out but are doing OK physically. The incident is the talk of the town. "For them not to be able to settle their differences in an adult way is just unbelievable," said Cathy Greenwald. "They don't deserve a dog." Beck and Toll were both arrested on charges of domestic violence. Toll is also facing a possible cruelty to animal charge and possession of a controlled substance. Police said that while Toll was being processed into the jail, deputies noticed a tinfoil container with a black substance inside. When they asked her what it was, she allegedly told them it was opiates. In another article I read about this it was stated that the woman was jailed for 30 days - however after reading this version which mentions the opiates it may be more likely that she was jailed for possession of drugs rather than cruelty to the puppy. Morons.
  13. Stella likes the toy basket! Colour the greyhound likes the lounge.... any lounge....
  14. Awww, thanks Wuffles! Ava was from our very first Aussie Shepherd litter, and we were lucky enough to have extremely good mentors in the breed who gave us the benefit of their knowledge and experience in breeding, assessing and placing our puppies. We do all have to start somewhere, but I think it is important to do the very best you can by your dogs and by your puppy buyers by having mentors in your chosen breeds, health testing the parents of your planned litters and generally being responsible, upfront and ethical in all aspects of breeding.
  15. Right - unaware her dog attacked or bit anyone? Ummm, that suggests she had NO FREAKING CONTROL over the dog if she wasn't close enough to see what it did. Glad to see you have as many idiots in SA as we do over here! I would still question whether that dog & owner should be allowed to continue at the club. Glad that Max is recovering well, and that you will at least have your vet bills paid.
  16. Wow - she is so beautiful, Evolving, no matter what you end up calling her! So squishy & fluffy!!!!!! Congratulations!
  17. Ooooh! I might have to make an extra effort to go!
  18. You have been showing gundogs for too long! Although I'm sure a GSP would help you find it eventually - it might even point it out once you get there!
  19. Hey there! Glad to hear you are both okay! Lamb flaps for Leo? I just found that I had to feed our greyhound at least 3 times a day to finally get some decent weight on her - same with Chester when he went all dumb in the head when Vivi was in season: more meals. Have you entered Morisset at the end of July (Brisbane Water Legacy)? That's my next "local" show - I'm off to Gunnedah next weekend with Dragon, Stella and Mr Chester. BTW - Chester is 1yo tomorrow!!!! All grown up. I think training might be on Tuesday week, and I think it starts at 6pm now that it is getting colder?? I think it was on last Tuesday but I don't go very often. I would like to go to the next one. Kristy, Bec & Ash will know! ETA is that a new photo of Leo as your avatar? He is very handsome!
  20. They are beautiful photos!! Gorgeous pups.
  21. HELLO JESS!!!!! Great to hear from you! If you go back through the posts here you will see your name mentioned a few times (nicely, of course) as we wondered where you were. How's our big Leo pug??? When will we see you at a show? Deb
  22. It all depends on the individual dog. Some are happy to lie around all day with a quick 15 minute walk. Some are happy to walk for an hour twice a day. I have kept my two fit (aged 7 and 9) and they have a free gallop most mornings (if they want it, or they may choose to just sniff and pee), plus a 30-45 minute walk in the afternoon - and they never say no if hubby wants to take them out again around 9pm. Like any dog, the size of the yard doesn't matter, so long as they get their walks. Thanks, I like to do long walks which sometimes take the whole day and I would usually walk my dog for at least 2 hrs a day. So, good to know they can manage this as I have heard from some that they are lazy! I'm thinking they might be a good dog for my parents who are retired/ do part time work. My parents like to do long walks as well but my dad prefers the dog be on leash (where as mum justs lets the dog do whatever ). We are looking after a guide dog puppy at the moment and they have decided that they would like to get an older dog when she leaves us. The question re garden size was just because I'm not sure if I would feel comfortable letting them off lead at an unfenced park and especially if there were SWFs there. Most of the parks in my area are not fenced and we don't have a big yard. Hi aussielover, I think you'll find that you are not allowed to let greys off-lead anywhere outside their property (unless, perhaps, they are competing in an obedience trial?? ETA or, of course, racing :D ), at least in NSW. We live on 2 acres, but I'm pretty sure that Colour wouldn't care if we were in an apartment as long as she could find enough grass to pee on. I reckon a daily walk or two would keep most greys happy - with an occasional playdate somewhere where they can do a couple of laps if they wish. ;)
