Marlin loves water any way it comes! We first took Marlin to the beach when she was just 9 weeks old, we were lucky to have access to a very secluded beach that is only available to a few. We introduced her to the rock pools at low tide first of all, it was such a joy to watch her reactions. She went for her first swim very soon after, safely in my arms first, then boldly followed us in through the waves almost immediately. She still goes to the beach most days and jumps right in, even when the surf is up, brrr, not me! She has her own life jacket for when we go out in the boat and is quite happy to get lowered over the side to join me for a swim! I agree with taking it slowly and see how your pup reacts first tho. Have fun

Cant help you as Marlin is a lady and doesnt do that sort of thing, yeah right but......... :p :p

So glad Herbie was honoured with such a great turnout. There is a facebook page called Little Anzacs dedicated to dogs killed in action. Lest we forget.

How do you know when to start cutting back on amount to feed? Marlin is nearly one year old and her growth has slowed down, but I guess she is still growing. I have been quite happily feeding the same amounts since she was little, I thought she was starting to look a little rolly recently, especialy when it got an effort to lift her in and out of the car hard to tell as she is a very fluffy border, but can feel her ribs easily, so have cut back a little on her meat and increased vegies. Last time I weighed she was 18kg, 45cm height and is a fairly solid build. I feed an average over a week that works out to around 350gms a day, that is probably only 50gms a day less than previously. Meaty bones every day, most days meat/offal and vegie slop, fish weekly. She is always looking for food, thinks all the big white box containes is her own personal meat supply, just concerned that I am still giving her all the nutrition she needs. ">

Question For The Experience Raw/prey Feeders
BCPuppy replied to Meea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
What sort of fish are you feeding? Mine would only eat the best snapper initially and it had to be covered in yoghurt Now she will eat most types as long as they are cut into chunks, still insists on rolling in stinky bits tho. My OH wont eat fish if it tastes 'too fishy' so maybe the same for dogs. I find mackerel, tuna and oily fish can be a bit strong smelling and might put them off at first, I introduced different fish a little at a time, lightly poaching sounds a good idea too. -
How distressing for both you and Morrison, I hope he is feeling better. I used to carry a stout walking stick when walking Marlin as it was quite common for all sorts of dogs to dash out unexpectedly from unsecured yards, I also would pick her up if it looked like a dog was getting agressive. Wouldnt be able to pick her up in a hurry now though

YesYesYes I used to look after a big old rottie who was an absolute darling but if you told him off or didnt play with him just when he wanted would go to his bed turn his back heave a huge sigh and refuse to look at you for ages

Hear Hear I use the beach mostly and there are lots of cars driving on the beach, not all of them are good at keeping to a slow speed, so a good recall and good stay are very important, also hate those people who make their dogs run after the car, lazy and not good for some dogs, have seen some very stressed trying to keep up with the car, also makes every other dog want to chase after them.

Although it's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow, may looking back in memory help comfort you tomorrow. -
Luv all these gorgeous well (and not so well)behaved puppies. I have a brag from the weekend! Marlin is one of those laid back BC's, loves everyone and pats and belly scratches but has never had much to do with kids. We were at a function with lots of people and a heap of kids zooming around, suddenly she was surrounded by 4 little girls (5/6 yr olds) who just wanted to pat and cuddle her, she sat good as gold while they made a huge fuss of her squeeling and giggling, hugging and stroking her, after a few minutes she looked at me with those eyes imploring me 'get me outta here' I was so proud.

Definately need some offal in there, is the mince human grade or pet grade, pet mince is better as it containes minced up bones as well. I cannot reccomend bones enough, great for growing pups, keeping teeth clean, and overall enjoyment. Chicken necks and wings are great for small breeds, they can seem a little daunting (for you ) just make sure you supervise, your pup will love them. I found yoghurt great for baby tums, not sure about olive oil, I use omega oil. Also give some fish or sardines once a week. I just try to give as much variety of meats as possible, but because of supply problems I end up mainly with roo and chicken and goat occasionally. Niques - we have 3 large chest freezers and still manage to not have enough room for everything, oh and a fridge freezer, OH was most put out when Marlin food found its way into "his" bait freezer I only get to shop every couple of months for the good bones and meat as only one supermarket in town and they only have the yuk canned stuff and kibble and the butcher doesnt have much variety and is outrageously expensive. So yes it does become an art to fit it all in when I get back from a big shop! I find a few carboard boxes in the bottom help with stacking things and keeping the oldest stuff on top. Dog food is also allowed in one drawer in the kitchen fridge freezer so I try to take out several days food at a time and migrate it to the kitchen so I am not constantly unpacking the chest freezer looking for the right items.

Aww poor Katie, hope there have been no more bad dreams. Marlin dreams quite often, especially after she has had a big day with doggie friends. The usual yips and growls and legs twitching and running like mad, I find it amusing as she is more vocal in her dreams than in real life play

Been absent for a few days, stopping by to check the waiting room, so glad so many keeping the candles going. Have re lit mine and keep them burning brightly every night at home. Thinking of you every day Jed, appreciating the little things more than ever, I am in awe at the wonderful compassion and love pouring out of the room. Bless you all. -

Poop is sooo fascinating dont you think My Oh thinks I am wierd as I examine every nugget so closely Marlin has been on raw since we brought her home, lots of bones of all sorts, chicken or kangaroo meat & she does get mashed pumpkin and natural yoghurt most days. Poops are firmish little nuts about twice daily, by the time I get to pick them up they are nicely sun baked and as VJB said easily scooped up

Such cheering news. Popping in and out several times a day, re-lighting candle, and will continue until we hear from Jed herself. Made a heap of chicken and camembert pies yesterday, will send them on over with some treats for the furries. -
You can get Omega Oil as a supplement from most pet stores, Marlin gets it every day unless she is having fish. Big bottle lasts me around 6 months. Once ran out and squeezed a tablet into her food instead. Good for their coat and general health.

Not sure if anyone has reported yet. There have been several cases of pavo in Carnarvon area. Poor doggies.

When I was away a couple of months ago Marlin decided to share a chicken carcass she had buried earlier with my OH at about 2 in the morning - on the bed. She got shut outside very quickly. -
Love looking at the pics here, first time I have posted one tho. Took this one a few weeks ago indulging in my other passion
