  1. LOL. I have 2 friends who have them (from the same BYBer). Both not particularly good with their kids, both not particularly bright and they bark like crazy. Good luck to them.
  2. I have just given this some more thought and alot of these people seem to want a purebred (they seem proud to announce they have a purebred oodle doodle) - what more can be done to spread the word about REAL purebred dogs????
  3. That is gold Isnt the saying "there is one born every minute"
  4. LOL Alot of people come talk to me at our dog park as I have 2 miniature poodles and want to know about them. They usually have a very large GR x Poodle or Lab x Poodle with them who they were told was crossed with a mini poodle and would only be small to medium size. The other day on Gumtree I saw someone selling GR x Standard Poodle pups with the line that they dont require much exercise and are the perfect courtyard home pet And lastly A lovely couple I have got to know on my walks have 2 spaniel x poodles bought from Pets Paradise. They are not crossed with a cocker though as they are very bulky dogs. They have bred them 6 times and created a total of 22 puppies of which they are quite proud. They have stopped breeding now thank goodness. I could go on - I know quite a few poodle cross (not the size I ordered stories) - it breaks my heart
  5. CW EW - looking around my local dog park Charlies look is a very popular one. Most of the long haired dogs are clipped back like this - I guess the novelty of brushing regularly wears off and the owners just want something simple to maintain. I have also learnt that not all groomers know how to scissor very well (neither do I ) so a clip all over is common. Its like a bad haircut - give it a week and it wont look strange at all. When my dogs got badly groomed I kept apologising to them LOL - they were happy and it was me with the issue.
  6. Who recommended the groomer? Was anyone able to help you out on here? The first time I had my guys groomed I just looked someone up in the yellow pages - my 2 poodles actually came back looking worse than Charlie (it was a mobile and were shoved through my front door wet in Canberra July winter). I learnt my lesson and got some great recommendations from here so it might be worth a shot
  7. I met a purebred Havanese that looked alot like my friends "cavoodle" the other day.
  8. A friend of mine bought a male cav puppy on the limited register from a registered breeder here in Canberra for $850.
  9. Thats really sad. I guess I am lucky that our offleash park is used by alot of regulars and whilst I dont know the name of the owners I know the majority of dogs by their names . Yes we have some crazies but they are harmless - just a bit bouncy. Our park isnt technically fenced (its a large reserve) and if I do come accross someone who I havent met before or have their dog on a leash - I leash mine and do introductions that way.
  10. I'll go against the grain and say that we did it and it turned out really good. We have a male and a female miniature poodle siblings who are now 14 months old. This hasnt been our experience (sometimes I worry about their attachment to me though) and I would say after reading a few threads on here we have probably been lucky and are the exception to the rule but I guess we are proof that it can work.
  11. My dogs dont like it and their coats are awful on it but I appreciate that every dog has a food that suits them and it seems that Artemis isnt for us - the ingredients are great though. I am going to try Nutro next as I want to keep their kibble wheat free
  12. Maybe he is hoping you will put one with a Poodle and "create a new breed" that he can write a fact sheet for on his website and plug as a great, non-shedding family dog ETA - I do realise that the Xoloitzcuintle is hairless but Don seems to like everything MORE when it is crossed with a Poodle
  13. Well said. There are alot of people out there who dont know the "in's and outs" of the registered breeder/pedigree dog world but would provide a fantastic home for a dog. I didnt even know the ballpark figure that a pup sells for - well apart from what I saw onsale at my local Pets Paradise which isnt a good guide - when started to look for a dog and then I was too scared to ask the price incase that got me "rejected".
  14. Its all so devastatingly sad. RIP and Run free doggies. I wish Jed a speedy physical and emotional recovery.
  15. Our local Pets Paradise was selling "purebred" CKCS for $1200 (no papers) We enquired with a local registered breeder earlier in 2009 who was asking $900 for a dog with papers. Unfortunately this is not often the case. A friend of mine spent $1800 2 years ago for 2 cocker spaniel x poodles only to grow bored with them and shove them neglected in the backyard. I am now trying to help her get them into rescue.
  16. My parents donated our much loved family dog to "science" she was riddled with cancer. This was at the after hours Vet hospital at Murdoch, WA. Mum and Dad would have rather buried her at home but they were living with my Aunt just before their move to the East Coast (from Perth). I was a bit upset about it at first but believe that once she passed her doggy spirit had run off to the rainbow bridge and all that was left was her sick, old body. I do sincerely hope that my beautiful girl was treated with some dignity even though she may have been "only a dog" and had died.
  17. How old are your kids? A Toy Poodle wouldnt cope with my 18 month old daughters "love fatctor" and I would worry since we have lots of kids here about it getting hurt. My Miniature Poodles are great - good size, go mad for a game of ball down the park but require grooming. I (with lots of help from here) learnt myself and they are a wonderful dog that I would recommend to anyone will to do/pay for the grooming
  18. I cant take credit for the find as a friend of mine posted it on Facebook but Deals Direct have dogs drizabone jackets priced between $25 and $35. They look really good. http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/search/drizabone/
  19. I have used Laurie from Angel Paws (mobile service) she was fantastic and I highly recommend her BUT she comes that recommended that last time I spoke to her she had a 4-6 week wait. http://www.angelpaws.com.au/site/index.php A friend of mine used a place at Ainslie shops the other day and was happy and a few people at our local off leash area use a guy in Watson called Salon Pooch. There is one in Kaleen that offers a mobile service that I DONT recommend. I was very unhappy with their service. My dogs looked terrible, they didnt even dry them off for me and assured me they knew how to do a poodle trim which was a lie as the way my dogs came back inside was not "poodley" at all - poor puppies I kept apologising to them.
  20. I am in Canberra. I had my boy desexed at a clinic recommended to me close by and it cost $260. My friend had her dog done at another local clinic and it cost $150. Both standard ops, no complications and recovery seemed the same. The vet I used is in a big, nice looking clinic and the other is a little run down. FWIW after doing a bit more research the vet my friend used comes highly recommended but I guess people (like me) who didnt know who to ask and hadnt researched go to the big, nice looking clinics and thats why they can charge more.
  21. I am feeding Artemis - which is wheat free but my dogs hate it and their coats are dry and awful. I am going to try Nutro Lamb and rice next as it is also wheat free and there is now a local supplier so I can pick it up. I had them on Advance most of their first year and then changed to Supercoat but gave the bag away as their poo output doubled (maybe even tripled). I wanted to stick to wheat free as my guys had ear problems (even though it wasnt related to allergies I am trying to prevent them)
  22. The Vet I used for puppy preschool mentioned it being done as an option for those with larger breeds whilst being desexed - kind of like an add on.
  23. I might buy the Revolution then as I only wormed them 2 weeks ago. Thanks
  24. The vet suggested I treat my guys for ear mites if their ears didnt look completely clear after these ear drops are finished. Is one better than the other? or are they the same ingredients - different name
