  1. I have posted on my Facebook and added the photo too. I hope she is found soon - there was more storms this afternoon
  2. I was looking on vetstop and there seems to be quite a few supplements out there with different ingredients ranging widely in price. Does anyone here have any recomendations? Do they work/make a difference?
  3. She has had a good couple of days rest and sleep thanks to 2 nice rainy days. We went for a light walk tonight and there was no limping but I am still going to keep her quiet until we see a chiro - just to be sure. When we are able to do some ball throwing again I might concentrate on keeping the ball low which will hopefully stop the jumping (I didnt even think of that until I saw some posts here) This made me LOL she lives for the ball too. Her brother enjoys it too but not as much as her - she is crazy for it. I think she would chase it until her leg fell off. Funnily enough they both werent interested until they turned 1 before that when I threw it they would just look at me like I was mad.
  4. I know its lazy of me if its any excuse I have 3 small children and work part-time but still like to keep the dogs clean and tidy (feet are most important due to all the grass seeds where we walk) I use the Singer oil after using every blade and I have 3 #10's, 1 #15 and a toe blade so have a decent rotation. I also get them sharpend by Colin at Clipper Blade Sharpening. I was thinking that one of the branded blade washes might be better??? WDYT
  5. Apart from making sure you have a clean dry dog when you start clipping what are some other good tips on how to get the best life out of your blades? I will admit to sometimes doing my dogs face or feet when they havent had a bath - how damaging is this to the blades?
  6. My female dog hurt her herself yesterday when jumping for the ball. She is a bit stiff today and limps on her left leg every now and then but doesnt seem to have any pain and lets me examine her leg, hip, knee without showing signs of pain. I figured a couple of days rest to see how she goes might help before I take her to see a vet (if it doesnt settle down) Does this sound ok? Should I have it checked out sooner? She actually seems a bit stiff around the hips so I am wondering if it is her back and if a Chiro might be beneficial. Also should I cut down (in future) on throwing the ball. My 2 mini poodles love it but my female gets some serious "air" and it does make me concerned about future leg, hip, knee problems - how much exercise is too much exercise?. They will be turning 3 soon
  7. Dont worry Tralee she was only here 2 hours before I got the brush out - for a dog who gets little attention and is "an outside only" dog she loves being brushed - my 2 who have been brushed regularly from being puppies can still get a bit sulky at me. She also let me do her nails as one of her dew claws was growing curled under if that makes any sense. She is now happily sitting next to me on the floor (much to the disgust of my 2 - who are on the couch) no panting either but as soon as I move she is up following me around - I think she is hoping I am going to feed her - she has had her dinner and she definetly needs no treat. Thanks everyone for your reassurance. I will follow up with my friend and make sure the old girl gets a vet check up
  8. Spoke with my friend. They will take her for a checkup when they get back (they are back tomorrow). She is eating well and happy. It could be a combination of things. She isnt used to being inside at her home but we have a doggy door so if she comes in she is welcomed but she seems at a loss at what to do but enjoys coming inside if that makes any sense Looking again she is actually quite overweight so I figure that might contribute. We are lucky enough not to have ticks here in Canberra so that isnt a problem :-) Can I lastly finish by OMG the shedding. I own 2 Poodles so this dog hair everywhere is driving me crazy LOL - interesting to see how the other half live.
  9. I am looking after my friends 9 year old Lab (she arrived today) She is overweight and it was warm today but since she arrived she hasnt stopped panting - not full on panting but just constant (if that makes any sense - she is lying on a towel on our tiles and still doing it and it has cooled right down) she ate all her dinner, enjoyed her walk (I dont think she gets one very often) and has been constantly trying to mooch food off me all day. She drinks alot of water but I am not sure if that is a larger dog/breed thing. She seems happy enough but a quick google told me that alot of these symptoms could be cushings disease. I will of course tell my friend when she comes to pick her up and suggest that a vet check up is in order but should I be worried now? I would hate for something to happen over christmas whilst they are away.
  10. This makes me teary. I remember Laddie - the first dog in my life a black and white kelpie x border collie who came from a cattle farm in WA and used to travel in my dads truck delivering grain from the Swan Brewery to remote farms Barney - a mini dacchie who I want to apologise too for not playing with him enough (I was only 8/9 years old) but my parents worked full-time and he was so unhappy so he got rehomed Jazza - a family friends blue heeler who hung out and roamed around with us kids. She was pedigree and a fantastic looking dog but the escape artist from hell which is how us kids came accross her (she was terribly DA) and finally my heart dog Jesse a "red" kelpie who at 14 years old passed away in 2007 - I cant wait to see her again - I hope she knows how much joy and happiness she brought to our family
  11. Thanks everyone I wormed them that afternoon as they were due the following week and bum licking has stopped. Will keep an eye on it though
  12. I have noticed my dog last night and this morning having a good bum licking session. It isnt constant and she seems fine but google suggests it could be anal glands. She isnt bum scooting and I was wondering when/if I should take her to the vet. She is nearly 3 and we havent had this issue before
  13. I honestly if people new the truth they wouldnt buy them. Of course there will be a few people who dont give a damn but I would consider a large amount of DD owners just uneducated about these dogs
  14. I cant recomend Shampooch in Kambah highly enough. Fantastic grooming - we travel from the otherside of Canberra to go there and after learning the hard way too we wont go anywhere else.
  15. We have a Tanner. I forgot about him.
  16. I forgot Barbie is a real Poodle lover LOL
  17. Has the war against DD's been lost when big international toy chains are making replica toys???
  18. I have a friend who had a GSD around the same age die about 3 months ago under similar circumstances but their dog just went to sleep for the night and never woke up. I am led to believe this dog had a bleeding disease though and she tried following up with the breeder ect and despite being a show winning, registered breeders they didnt want to help. If you want to PM me I can find out the details of her dog and which breeder she bought from
  19. This is what I believe. When our old family dog died my parents were staying with my aunt as they were moving interstate the following week (bringing the old girl with them). The family home had been sold 2 months before and my dad even thought about sneaking in and burying her there LOL (it was a big block). Instead he had the vet at Murdoch give our beautiful girl her wings on a nice grassy area outside the vet and I believe she truely ran free there and then - after that what remained was her body, that was old and riddled with cancer - it was best she leave that behind.
  20. Thanks Poodlefan - I was hoping you would know. She did say that lots of investigations were done because they werent sure what was wrong so I would take a guess xrays were done but cant guarantee it. He was recently brought home from the pound so they dont know much about his history. All she said is that he was fine then one morning woke up was in pain and couldnt move. They have a younger dog who is quite healthy so this is their first experience (apart from vaccinations) with vets in Canberra
  21. Bumped into a friend today whose 8 year old poodle x has a slipped disc. He has been to the vet and has some medication but I have heard of some alternative therapies/chiropracters can help so I told her I would ask on here. Does anyone have any recomendations?
  22. Ask the vet for Topigen. I used bucketloads of surolan and dermotic - saw a different vet and he gave me these drops and my boys constant ear infection went after 3 days and hasnt come back. FWIW I used to go to a big fancy vet hospital. They just kept telling me the same thing and giving me the same meds everytime sometimes fresh eyes and a second opinion is worth it
  23. Tanstaff - Did the breeder offer papers? Papers are important because if there is going to be a clampdown on "pitbull looking dogs" a set of pedigree papers stating that your dog is an Amstaff would be invaluable especially as I see you are in Victoria. Good advice. You can find registered breeders on the homepage of this website

Unfortunately the general public have had enough. They dont care about the reasons why these attacks happen only that they happen and when it does involve a strong big dog (such as a pitbull) it doesnt end well. The inability to keep these dogs out of the hands of knob owners has contributed to the downfall of this breed
  25. If you look at it from the POV of someone who knows nothing about dogs, sees a cute small fluffy thing and is told it is a teacup whatever then this segment would have atleast made them understand that teacup = unhealthy and hopefully encourage them not to buy one which has to be a good thing. In another thread it was pointed out that there was an advertisment for Teacup puppies here on DOL (It is now removed)
