Dog owner Rowan Hargreaves told the New Zealand Herald that eight puppies, only days old, had survived Monday's bloodshed when a neighbour opened fire at his property north of Auckland. Mr Hargreaves said he planned to keep the pups after discovering them cowering in his mechanical workshop. The killings were a revenge attack by Mr Hargreaves's neighbour Russell Mendoza after he discovered his fox terrier mauled to death. Certain that one of Mr Hargreaves' dogs was to blame, Mr Mendoza and a friend sought retribution the next day by heading next door to the quarry property armed with a .22 rifle and a 12-gauge shotgun. Mr Mendoza asked Mr Hargreaves, a mechanic who lives in a broken-down truck surrounded by car wrecks, to sign a note agreeing to the mass shooting. What ensued was what police in the small North Island town of Wellsford described as a "bloody, rifle-killing frenzy". The owner, who said he'd felt "under enormous pressure" to sign the note, stood behind a shack to shield himself from the "bloodbath". He said the sound of his canine companions being shot was unlike anything he had ever heard before. "They were screaming, making sounds dogs just don't make. When one was gone, the others knew they'd be next but they had nowhere to go," the New Zealand Herald quoted him as saying. When the killing stopped 23 puppies and 10 adult dogs had been slaughtered. New Zealand's animal protection agency SPCA said it is yet to decide what charges it will lay against Mr Mendoza and his friend. If the dog is joint owned then the best thing to do is the person who is keeping the dog pays the other person 1/2 of the purchase price. that way there will be no fighting & as he wont be able to rent a house on his own then he wont have the money to pay you out therefore you just need to come up with some cash then you & dog are out of there. Now I know you paid most of the money for the dog but you sound like you need to leave & you will have the best home for the dog so put this suggestion to him. If he is broke & your offering a fist full of 50's I know what most blokes will do & that is take the cash.

If the dog is on a registery for its breed (even if it not the aknc) & has been bread under there regulations of that body then it could be classed as pure. But i also think untill the breed is reconised by the aknc then its not a pure breed, otherwise any byb can claim a pure breed.

It would be easy for me, I would tell the breader that I want a pet not a breading bitch so call me when they have a female for a pet home. If you want a pet then only take a pet from them or find a different breader. good luck

This was in the local news paper yesterday. I cant belive the lack of brain cells some people have. This woman wouldn't sit in the car & feed the baby because it was to hot so why does she think its ok to leave the dog in the car. The more I deal with people the more I love dogs. Dog left to suffer in hot car ANTHONY BUNN 12 Jan, 2010 01:20 PM AS the temperature neared 40 degrees yesterday afternoon, a dog was left to suffer inside a four-wheel-drive while its owner went shopping in Wodonga. Police were appalled by the behaviour of the Beechworth mother who had initially gone inside the Centro Wodonga shopping centre to feed her six-week-old baby before deciding to stay there for another 15 minutes looking through stores. It was only when a message was put across the shopping centre’s public address system that the woman, nursing her baby, returned to the Mitsubishi four-wheel-drive and appeared embarrassed as she told police officers “that’s my dog”. Sen-Constable Neil Hobbs and Sen-Constable Tracy Jarrott had received a call at 2.30pm with another shopper triggering the alarm. “The lady (who called us) actually went inside, 15 minutes before that and saw the dog there and she thought surely they’re not dumb enough to be that long and she’s come out at 2.30pm and called us,” Sen-Constable Hobbs said. “She’s disgusted, they pulled up next to the car and the dog’s in the car panting its guts out, they left only a little bit of window down, but fortunately they are dumb enough to leave the car unlocked,” he said as they waited for the owner to return. The 13-year-old cross sat panting in the front of the car before the woman emerged and the police directed her to turn the ignition on to provide some cool air. “She had to get inside to feed her baby because it was hot, but while she was in there she decided to do some shopping, to look at a couple of shops,” Sen-Constable Hobbs said. “She’s obviously upset now, but she would be more upset if she had to go home and bury her dog. “I’ve got a pet and there’s no way I would treat it like that.” The woman had the dog in the car because she had been staying at Corryong. The officers said the RSPCA would be notified and the woman was likely to be officially warned and fined for leaving her car unsecured. “Like they stress on TV, leave the dog at home, leave it under a tree wherever there is shade and ventilation and water, but it is ridiculous to have it car park on a day like today when there is hardly any breeze and you have the hot temperature let alone the temperature coming from the concrete,” Sen-Constable Hobbs said. “Given it’s supposed to be 43 degrees today, it would be a lot hotter in the car it would probably be an extra 10 degrees and that’s with the windows down.”

Jana said last night that we wouldn't hear anymore until mid-morning or midday so we're going to keep ourselves busy this morning cleaning up.
