Hey, I feed her Bonnie Complete dry food. I am not trying to muscle her up I just want a little more weight on her as she looks thin to me. I dont want her fat just a good coverage over her. She runs in the backyard flat stick and also chases balls and plays soccer down at parks off lead everyday. She gets atleast one hour per day. I used to feed Boar dog Endurance but havent been able to find it anywhere down here. She only got steak last night as it had been in the freezer a while and the chicken mince she gets is dog mince from Lenards. As for swimming she hates swimming she slipped off a slimey rock into a creek as a 12 week old puppy and therefore still hasnt gained confidence with water although she does go to elbow deep now so hopefully soon she willgain her trust with water. I have noticed it being only the last few weeks that she has lost condition so i am assuming it has to do with the extra exercise she is getting and maybe a bit of a growth spurt again. thank you for the link to the website I really need to read as much as possible on dog diets as I really have no idea. I will look into briskett bones to give to her each night. Is Bonnie Complete alright brand dog biscuits to be feeding her. I have recently in the last 6 months changed over and she is doing so well on it. She has a lovely coat and her skin is devine. Also she really likes the biscuits as well as the maltese which is great as I have bought Eukanuba before and they would not eat it. Thank you for the advice I am greatful

Hi guys, I am trying to feed my girl up as she seems to of lost some condition. Her coat is still healthy and shes healthy but am having trouble with her. Normally she will eat whatever and is not fussy so I bought some chicken livers for her and she wont touch them. Takes one sniff and walks off. I have only started feeding her up yesterday and just wondered what else would help. Each night she gets chicken mince roughly about 250 - 300 grams and dry biscuits. I have also been giving her mince and cooked pasta as well as serloin steak diced up. She also gets raw roo tails about twice a week. I know its only in the early stages but was just wondering what else would work in helping her gain condition. She is a 1 year old American staffy with a high energy drive. I was thinking maybe going back to puppy biscuits to get a bit of weight on her. She is not thin where you can see the ribs but isnt in great condition. Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated Thanks is advance

Hey, As a groomer I hate doing it because at times alot of dogs ears get all red and inflamed. I tend to only do a few of them for this reason and recommend people to do it at home as well when sitting on the couch. Only do a few each night. Theres no way a dog is going to like it that why with my guy i do a few every night. He hates it and i have put it down to being like pulling nose hairs out. I wouldnt like it so I dont blame them.

If the tests came back clear and there is only weeping in one eye I would consider taking him or her to a chiro practor. I have found that since taking my little maltie to the chiro his left eye is not weeping anymore as his neck was out and had been for some time. the chiro said that it can cause weepy eyes them having necks out. Hope this helps a little

I will bite the bullet and have a go. QUESTIONS 1. What is my relationship with the breed? (ie breeder, first time owner etc) My relationship with the Amstaffs is I am a first time owner and absolutely loving it. 2. Where and why was the breed first developed? I think it was developed in America and they were developed and they are the show line of the pitbull. 3. How common is it in Australia? Reasonably common but not as common as some other breeds such as Border Collies etc 4. What is the average lifespan? 12-14 years 5. What is the general temperament/personality? Happy, outgoing, playful, alert, loving and devoted. Can have dog aggression issues if not socialised from a young age. 6. How much daily exercise is needed for the average adult? not too sure on an exact amount but at least 30 minutes a day I would dare say 7. Is it a breed that a first time dog owner could easily cope with? Yes if they are prepared to attend dog obedience classes as they are a very fun loving breed. They can be very dominant so you would have to make sure that first time owners completely understand the need for this breed and willing to do things with it to keep it occupied. 8. Can solo dogs of this breed easily occupy themselves for long periods? Long periods it depends I guess what you mean by long periods... If brought up with being home alone then I guess they would cope providing they had a few toys. I have 2 dogs so i really am not sure. She cries if i take the other dog out and leave her at home on her own but I would too. 9. How much grooming is required? Once a month bath and the odd brush I guess. It is recommended that they be bathed every 12 weeks but mine gets bathed every month 10. Is it too boisterous for very small children or for infirm people (unless the dog is well trained)? I would say yes to this question as they are a very happy dog that love to be apart of the family and can get over excited. If not trained I guess they would be fairly full on and rowdy. 11. Are there any common hereditary problems a puppy buyer should be aware of? I think these guys need to get their eyes tested???? Could be wrong 12. When buying a puppy, what are the things you should ask of the breeder? (eg what health tests have been done (if applicable) and what is an acceptable result to those tests so the buyer has an idea of what the result should be) The eye testing should come back clear if it is a test done in the amstaffs. The buyer should also make sure that the dog will come with pedigree papers as BSL could at any time decide to take your amstaff away as a pitbull. Correct me if I am wrong guys but I gave it a crack. Breeders would I pass your test lol

Hi and congrats on getting a amstaff they are a truley magnificant breed of dog and very clever. I have always used check chains on my dogs in regards to the pulling on lead and getting them to heal and found it very successful. I have neer tried a gentle leader so i cant help you with that one. I teach my dogs to give me a cuddle. Where they stand on there back legs and put their paws on my shoulder and snuggle their head into my shoulder its so cute. Best of luck with him

Hey, Because she has longerish type of her she could possibly be wetting on her hair around her umm private area. If she isnt a show dog I would recommend thinning her hair out around that area. Doing so may reduce the wee smell. Also check inside her ears to make sure theres not excess muck inside as this can create a rather foul smell as well. Hope this helped a little. Malinda

Hey what length do you usually take her back to? You could try by leaving a little bit of length like a half inch or so, so that shes not completely short all over during the winter periods. By keeping her belly shorter than the rest though would also help with the heat a little too so that when she layed down in the shade she would feel the little bit cooler on her belly. In summer if your happy to take her back to the 7 which is nice and short but in winter Id tend to leave a little bit of length but not full length if she is still having trouble with heat problems
