One of my clients is a cocker spaniel who has very loose lips and keeps getting abcesses in the folds. He is always smelly and putrid to the point where you are almost vommiting and the owner wont get let the vet fix it because they are worried it will change what he looks like

Only this morning I had a dog to bath that I went to pick up to put into the bath and it went to bite me on the face. Luckily my reaction times have gotten a hell of a lot faster and I managed to pull my head back as it was coming and didnt manage any bite marks but the dog nose hit my cheek. This was a little sausage dog (sorry if i offend anyone but I dont know how to spell their real name properly) Luckily once the dog was in the bath he was ok and wasnt nasty. Some dogs are just plain nasty. Last week I had a dog latch onto my finger and not want to let go when I went to groom her face. I always put a finger over the bridgee of the nose and my thumb under the chin that way I can feel when the dog is about to move and I can stop what I am doing so I dont take an eye out or even cut the tongue. However I do get some lovely dogs that remind me why I do love being a groomer. Dont even get me started on some of the dogs I have done in feral conditions and unfortunately it is that time of the year again and they are going to be plentiful. All dogs react different and some dogs if you get frustrated with them get worse, some however do need to be told a firm NO but not all dogs and most groomers have got dog behaviour worked out and know accordingly. Some just need reassurance that everything is ok and are happy with just that. However there is no place in any grooming salon for a dangerous dog. Biting is dangerous not just to the groomer but the also to the dog as clipping is not only physical work but mental work as well as you need to be always one step ahead. But also when a dog wont co operate it can be dangerous but there is a difference in co operation of say the average dog and a dog that just wont to co operate. Our salon deals with dangerous dogs simple- a phone call to the owner and let them know what is going on. We then show them how the dog is reacting and why we can not do it. To all the groomers out there :hugs: you do a fantastic job and people dont realise just how crap some days can be. With the busy season approaching its scary to think of the states that some of these dogs are going to come in like but I wish you all the best

Comfortis is not to be used on dogs under 14 weeks as per label instructions. People will tell you that in the tablets the mix is on one side but I have been using half tablets successfully for just over 12 months now ;)

have to agree with the others. I believe for a golden puppy a chicken neck/wing/drumstick is too small and has a high chance of choking if swollowed whole. I would opt for the chicken frame, turkey neck or even a briskett bone

When I worked at a vet the council also collected them and disposed of them with the dogs that were euthanased in the pound. Clients had the option to pay $50 to have them cremated and there used to be a big bucket of burnt bones out the back and would scoop some out and put them in a urn with a memorial plate for the animal. Wasnt the persons animal however that was put in the urn ETA this was in a small country town where there were actually no crematoriums close by. Closest cremortorium was over an hour away so not easy to get a pet privately cremated

good luck with it all. Do you have a suitable place to contain her while she is in season?

How's your Whippet going and what did you find worked for it ? We rehomed Dream to a young family with another Whippet. She didnt quite turn out for the show ring. Due to opening a new business and also taking on a contract to supply dog food at the cccq grounds each show at Durack made us make the decision to let her go. We could no longer go lure coursing which she loved so much on the weekends due to the dog food store at the show and long work hours meant that she wouldnt get the love and attention she deserved. We felt it was unfair to her being one of 4 dogs even though the dogs take turns in who gets to come to work it just didnt feel fair on her. It certainly wasn't an easy decision to make and if our circumstances had been different she would of been desexed and lived her life out with us. We believe we made the right decision in letting her go to a new home where she is now lapping up living inside with another Whippet as a play mate. She has been desexed and goes to the dog park almost everyday. The wife works from home so she has human company through out the day. We found Advance Turkey and Rice helped bulk her up a bit as well as lamb flaps. We had to stop giving her run of the yard all day and night because she wouldn't stop running around and therefore constantly burning it all off. Gee I miss her doing crazy zoomies around the yard and the other dogs not being able to catch her and getting frustrated.

I agree with the statement mentioned above different foods work for different dogs. Pro Plan did not work for my Amstaff she ended up losing all her coat and coming up in sores on ProPlan Puppy. I have tried numerous different dry foods with her and also found that Supercoat made her gain weight really bad to the point that she had to be put on half a cup of biscuits a day and then she just maintained the weight not lose the weight she put on. I have found my Amstaff does best of Advance.

none of my dogs wear collars. However they are all microchipped. If they get out I would hope that someone would either take them to a nearby vet or pound to be scanned for a chip.

hard poll really. Because depending on the number of bitches they have would certainly influence the amount of litters per year. But one litter per year per bitch seems reasonable to me. I only have one bitch Very interesting poll however

Firstly I would go and knock on nearby neighbours doors to see if they have recently got a kitten as it could be theres.

I agree with this. When I was looking for my girl alot of breeders told me I would be better getting a male because they are showier etc. But I was persistant that I wanted a female. Eventually after a long wait I now have my girl. She is 8 months old at present. I did not want a female on co ownership either as there is story after story of this turning sour. Be honest when enquiring for a puppy. Good luck

Thank you very much I received it

could you please email it through to [email protected] It wont work for me either

maybe post in the rescue section as well because the rescuers might be able to shed more light

can this dog be titre tested? Who knows if this dog was ever vaccinated as a puppy. Bit of a hard question really.
