  1. I have heard that if the roof of the mouth is black it means they are a pure breed Whohoo! My kelpie x border collie must be purebred and my puppy must want to bite me (or in his case lick me to death) because he has wrinkles..
  2. They don't, they hang on the tail. Gravity would make the thing move somewhat out of the way, since it hangs off the tail. While I would never waste money on one of these (nor do I think the dog would like it) one of the major things I noticed when I got my first short coated dog was how much time you spend looking at the brown kiss. :-S Really? My dog has a short coat and I sure as heck don't spend any time looking at his butt!!
  3. Kyjen is good but NOT if you have a chewer!! Milk bottles are a favourite here, but the sneaky brat chews the lid OFF then just tips all the treats out.. I think i'll try the muffin tray thing :D
  4. Dogs dream just like we do. If you pander to them and smother them with love and kisses if they get upset then it'll only make it worse. If our dogs get really antsy in their sleep we just prod them awake and then they fall back into a dreamless sleep again. They've never really gotten terrified about it thoguh.
  5. Oh Kiwi RIP Kira, loved and never forgotten
  6. Pers he does, otherwise he chews through the matting in his pen and scratches at the floorboards, that is why i need things that he isn't likely to kill in a day, this is all recent stuff so thats why I think he needs more to do. Putting him outside is not an option, he is a very cold dog and would be frozen solid by the time I got home if he was outside, and he'd probably sit at the back door ALL day and scream.
  7. Dezzy, he has a Cuz but he HATES it.. for some reason he doesn't like the texture. If I give it to him he'll hold it for a second and spit it out It's been in the toybox a while, I might bring it back out and see if he's changed his mind. I'm glad I'm not the only one! I will give some of the suggestions a go
  8. Diesel does, Nudge, nudge, nudge, poke in the ribs, PHWACK with the paw.. then if that fails jump in the lap ;) He's 28kg!! Bundy pup is slowly learning this trick too but he prefers to sit between my legs on the floor and put his nose between my knees. He will stay there for hours, I tested him I love his body wiggles they make me laugh, particularly when he gets tangled and falls over ;)
  9. Realistically, how much time would you have available as a family to devote to the dog daily. A puppy needs training, socialisation and plenty of interaction to grow up as good family dog. An adult dog needs exercise and stimulation too. From what you've indicated, none of the breeds would be suitable for your situation, particularly as pups. Neither would a poodle. BM: Definitely NOT. Poodles are every bit as people focussed as the gundogs... after all that's what they started life as. Dogs are social animals. No dog enjoys being alone. Someone at home that ignores the dog would be torment for it - I'd expect to see a lot of attention barking and frustration based behaviours. Yeah good point i forgot about that!
  10. I agree.. V's thrive on being where you are and with you at all times, that's just how they are. They're not nicknamed "velcro dogs" for nothing I wouldn't be without my little red man though. They need a fair bit of exercise as well, walks at least once every day if not twice. They can be hard work that's for sure! Out of all the dogs you've listed I think a poodle would probably be the most suitable, or as juice said what about a grey?
  11. I am struggling to find toys to keep my 8mth old Viz entertained who is a very strong chewer. He had some Leo's and various soft treat balls and the like but he chewed them. He chews anything and everything we give him is destroyed in a day. The ONLY toy he hasn't yet killed and still goes crazy over is his kong. He will eat his bones, but when he is penned there is only so long they will keep him occupied as he gets bored because he doesn't have to "compete" with the other dog. Bottles with stuff in them don't last more than half an hour with this one. Soft toys get gutted in 5 minutes and rope toys aren't of any interest.... He had an awesome hard rubber ball that was his favourite until he buried it and I now can't find it OH is getting fed up with me spending so much money on toys so I want to find him things that will last. They need to be suitable for him to play with when we aren't home, as he is penned for about 4-5hrs a day whilst we work and that is when he gets really bored. He can't even have a bed in his pen at the moment or that gets shredded. He gets walked once if not twice a day and trained every day as well. He used to spend the whole time sleeping when we were out but he's finally out of that phase so I really need to try and keep him entertained. He is still a bit of a destructo when we aren't home, so he has to stay in his pen(which is MASSIVE, it's almost like a room in its own really) so things that need to be suspended from the roof aren't possible for us. OH's work hours will be changing soon so he will be left for longer but no more than 6hrs, which is unfortunately unavoidable. He trashes everything if we leave him outside of his pen even while we step out to go to the shops, so that is not an option at this stage. It's only been the past few weeks he started really chewing through toys! He will shred toilet rolls and things like that too, but they aren't going to keep him occupied for more than 5 mins. I hate leaving him at home as it is, so I really want to make it fun for him. I am hanging for the day when he can just have free rein and will just curl up and sleep. Are there things I can maybe make for him? Hit me with your ideas people
  12. I saw the milk one and thought of this thread. That photo is still awesome
  13. My boy broke two He chewed them.. he loved them though but once the food was gone, forget it! They are absolutely brilliant as long as your dog isn't a hardcore chewer like I now know mine is. There is nothing more entertaining than watching your dogs bat the leo around and bang it to get out food. The toys that lasted here are a Kong, and a kids soft toy eeyore that rattled. I gave that to the dogs on Sunday and it's still in tact which is a rarity in this house
  14. Our kelpie does it to the puppy Bundy pings along oblivious and Diesel is just watching waiting ready to pounce.. You just have to shut your eyes as he bodyslams
  15. That's not odd, that's normal. She's just stalking the birds
  16. I do that too for my boy! Frozen carrots are the best in summer..
  17. It's like he's milking a cow.. I think I feel a bit sick after watching that I bet the area would've been tender after the anaesthetic wore off
  18. Give him a bone! Simple and good for him. If he chokes on chicken wings maybe he should just get frames instead.
  19. Nic, by 17 weeks your pup should be sleeping through all night.. My puppy slept through from 9 weeks. Tuckerballs are also good as are maze balls but they aren't the strongest of toys. I would also get Oreo fully trained and life more settled before considering another puppy. I'm loving all the puppy pics and wishing my boy was that small again!!
  20. purebred miks! I thought the minihaha had tipped me over the edge.. Nope.. Miks!
  21. You leave a light on for the puppy? I think mine will want to pack his bags and move out!! We lost Tash when she was little.. found her locked in the walk in wardrobe curled up on Mum's shoe.. she was 'missing' for a whole hour and I was really upset!! Bundy "locks" himself in the puppy pen all the time... even if the door is open he doesn't think he can get out so he sits and sulks for AGES til you go and point at the open door Yet he'll happily escape if you really do lock him in? It's qute funny to see him sitting there looking all sad because he can't get out, except the door is wide open..
  22. My boy had his last at 10 weeks, it combined the 10 and 12 in one.. She said it was easier and saved us having to come back again.
  23. My dog has licked paw paw in the past with no problems. However since you said she keeps knocking the scab, i'd just be taking the bone from her for a few days until it's been able to start healing.
