  1. Rosie, if you look at the link posted, the soft crate is no more enclosed than the wire... the dog still has plenty of 'viewing room'. I too was thinking the compost bins to make a pen.
  2. Poor darling. So glad she's back home safe Bec.
  3. It's normal for the dog to cock it's leg... yes, but inside the house, NO WAY. I agree with Pers, I'd be reinforcing the toilet training too... and wouldn't be letting him inside anyone elses house until you can trust him.
  4. Yeah I was just going off target adult size/current age table as a guide. I know they aren't perfect but did think she would start eating a fair bit more than when she was 3 months old. If I give her scraps or almost anything else she'll wolf them down, even after slowly eating all the kibble. I will start just giving her food in the morning for 20 minutes and then she can have it when she gets home, then take it away for a few hours and maybe put it to her later if she's not had it. 15 minutes in the morning, if she doesn't eat it, it goes away until the next meal. Same again at dinner time... don't give her a third opportunity, because if she was hungry, she'd eat when it was offered. If she doesn't eat it at dinner, too bad, she has to wait til breakfast. She'll probably eat it then.. Although whilst my boy is a medium sized dog, he wasn't wanting to eat breakfast once he got to 7mths, so he was down to one meal a day, so maybe she just isn't that hungry? My boys appetite hasn't got larger as he's grown, it's stayed the same... Well, he'd probably like more, but he doesn't NEED it. She's got you totally sussed... I bet if you sat there and hand fed her she'd eat every last bit... There's a thread in puppy problems called something like 'my staffy won't eat' which could give you good advice.
  5. It doesn't matter if she doesn't eat what's recommended on the bag... all dogs are different. As long as she's not looking underweight, then she's obviously eating enough If she doesn't want to eat her brekkie, take it away and give her NOTHING til dinnertime. She will soon learn to eat when it's put out or she doesn't get fed. It sounds to me like you've got a dog who knows how to play you to get attention.. and that's to not eat. Tough love, and you'll probably find she'll soon hoover up anything you give her when you do. She shouldn't have food out just to keep her occupied.... that's not what it's for. As an example, it is recommended my dog have 3cups if not 4 of dry a day... he only eats two (or one, depending on the brand) and he's just fine.
  6. bahaha never mind, you weren't talking to me anyway ML, thats disturbing that they think one email a year is harrassment..
  7. I do this too, as our older kelpie is DA and the young pup just wants to looove everyone. So I don't want him to pick up the kelpie's habits. I used to walk our Vizsla and foxie x together a lot.
  8. It's awful.. and when you close it, the fb window refreshes again..
  9. Why? Would it be an invasion of privacy for you? I think I would like it, but I also understand why breeders don't.. It'd be an unexpected and pleasant surprise.
  10. Nope, it didn't because I stuffed up, which I already mentioned as you know . I can assure you Kavik that he had absolutely zero issues with being on the seesaw, he willingly marched up there and stood happily. Whilst it may not be the done thing for a lot of people, it certainly didn't bother Bundy, he was perfectly happy. If there was any concern for his safety or if it was thought attempting exercises wasn't a good idea, then we wouldn't have done it, we were guided by his behaviour on the day, and he wasn't forced to do anything he didn't choose to do, and it was all done carefully under supervision and guidance. There is no way I would do anything detrimental to my dog, and we have been going to Underdog for about a year now, so I trust their judgement on how things were done and don't have a problem, if anything the problems you see were caused by handler issues by me. So can we agree to disagree and move on now? It wasn't my intention to post to have training methods criticised or for Tamara to have to come in and explain why they do what they do, I was purely proud of my dog and wanted to share. That one day has improved Bundy's all round focus out of sight, he has just been getting better and better and it's only been two days.
  11. Bundy's focus on me, is normally for oh, about 5 minutes at a time, before he's off in lala land. Never have I had him so focused on me as when we were doing the agility workshop. As I said before, I had the lead on because I didn't trust that his focus on me would stay, as he's never been so switched on before. He is the type of dog that if a random dog walks past, he will immediately stop what he's doing to go and play... but on Sunday he didn't even look once. I also knew if I didn't, he would be rushing ahead, as he was actively seeking out the next obstacle all ready to go for it, and I wanted to be sure he was in control at all times. I will definitely get a short tab lead though for the future in case i need it, but I don't think i will if his focus stays that good.
  12. I originally thought he'd be too soft as well because he's incredibly soft at home, but he proved me wrong, I was very surprised by his determination which is why I was so happy with him. I do want to train without a lead on, but just have to get him more reliable. Going down to look at some clubs next week I think. Contemplating buying a set of weaves once we've had a few lessons
  13. Our dog got home at 11pm. We couldn't seperate so just started as we meant to continue. 16 months later they're best of pals. If you can seperate them though, it might not be a bad idea to reduce stress. You can move the crate around, I did it with no problems, but found it easier to use a crate at night and just move a playpen around during the day. I never connected the two as they were seperate purposes. Pen for containment, crate for sleep.
  14. Wasn't you Vicke, PM just sounded harsh even though I know that wasn't her intention. If you mean me, I didn't mean to. I said you should be proud of your dog and I meant it. I'm a bit gobsmacked at what you were expected to do and my heart went into my mouth when the weavers fell. I can think of dogs that would have set back months. Yes I did sorry! I should know who you are by now! The weavers fell because I smacked into them Not because the dog did... I was being a klutz. But yes, that is being rectified for future workshops, there was an issue with that set. Bundy was gung ho and ready to try everything from the start.. if I had to 'force' him to do anything at all, we would've left that bit out, because the last thing I want is a scared or unhappy dog. I'm looking forward to learning properly when we are ready, it's going to be heaps of fun.
  15. Wasn't you Vicke, PF just sounded harsh even though I know that wasn't her intention. I do understand where everyone is coming from re the things that did go wrong, I'd find it hard to keep my mouth shut too, and really I wouldn't expect anyone to, I'm just touchy cos I was happy with how we went Rest assured, that was a one off so I could work out if we'd like it before having to go and join other clubs to make sure we learn to do agility properly.
  16. We didn't have to do it, we had the option not to do a full course, but he was being so good i figured why not. I know I stuffed up LOTS It was just a one off workshop for fun to see if he liked it and he did, so now we can learn to do it properly. I could take his lead off but didn't as it was our first attempt at a full course and he's only a youngin so I left it in case I needed it(which I did), and I know I should've taken his harness off too but I didn't really think about it at the time. I am hooked already though, so I'll looking forward to the challenges of getting his obedience up to scratch, as we have to pass levels before we can do agility with the local club.. and then giving it a go properly But i didn't post this to have a go at everything that went wrong, I know there is plenty and we have a very very very very long way to go before we resemble anything good, I posted because I was proud of our first attempt ever and wanted to share.
  17. Perhaps the shed is too warm for her? It is the middle of summer after all, and metal sheds do get stuff and stay that way? Is there an undercover area near the back door you can put her bed? Dogs molt, you're just going to get used to it! I know when I moved in with OH I kept having fits that our Kelpie moulted *everywhere* but now I just accept we'll find dog fur in places they shouldn't be.. it's just part and parcel of having a dog that sheds.
  18. I think the point is they don't want to get too close to the poop so don't want to use a bag.. they want alternatives.
  19. This was our first ever agility workshop yesterday. Kinda fell apart putting it together, he was tired and so was I! ;)
  20. Confine him, toilet on lead only (surprised you're letting him free range at loo time when you know he's sore) and reassess after the weekend. That's what I'd do anyway as it's not so easy for you to get to the vet. You could also call them and ask for their advice?
  21. My lab is a bit like this, he hardly listens to my husband but always does what I ask, I think he sees my husband as his playmate as he is always wrestling with him etc. If I am not here though my hsuband walks him and takes him to the park, Mason does listen to him but not as well as he does to me. I made OH walk him down the road near my mums, he'd been heeling wonderfully with me, but the second I handed him over to OH and stepped back.. forget it.. then on their way back to me he was RUNNING and dragging OH back to me :D Course then he was good again! It's awful and embarrassing, and OH refuses to walk him at all now. If Bundy is at training though, he will work for the trainers and not worry about me at all (He looves Stuart from Underdog). He won't work for the local obed trainers though...
  22. I'd be curious as to what people suggest, as I have similar issues with my boy. OH cannot handle him on walks because he just won't listen and pulls like a steamtrain.. but for me he's an angel!
  23. So does my boy.. BUT even the happy paws don't hold his attention when he's walking on a 'mission'. He will take it, attempt to chew then spit it out The only thing that keeps his focus is chunkers or 4legs but i find them to be greasy and messy!
  24. The vets probably use different brands(assuming the other vacs were before he came home), but if you're concerned I'd ask your vet ;) I can't say i've paid attention to it!
  25. Bugger!!! We will have an unhappy puppy for a couple of weeks.. He loves running around the park/oval. Be guided by your breeder and vet, not someone elses vet. My vet and breeder recommended getting ours out and about from 8weeks. He even got tiny walks... sure hasn't done him any harm and he's not been sick. He even walked small distances when he went to the vet the day after he came home, as we had our kelpie too who was scared of cars and had to walk him to the vet. It's really personal choice and if you're willing to risk the dog getting sick.. However, he did not socialise with any 'unknown' dogs until he was fully vacced, or go to the dog park (in fact, he's only ever gone twice.. I hate it).
