  1. I HATE leaving them but I don't worry about it! They looove being outside all day and bounce around like lunatics You just have to trust you've done all you can to make them safe and keep them occupied so they don't do naughty things.
  2. There's a 20 page thread elsewhere in health that may have answered your q Jakemon.. this thread is an old one
  3. I wouldn't. They could scratch at and tear through the material... Heck mine put a hole in the lino
  4. My breeder does She has set up a group too.
  5. That's what I was just about to say. One is a condition of the airways and the other the gastric tract. I'd have thought they'd also give very different symptoms.. All sounds very strange.
  6. While i agree with the other things you've said.. lavishing a whining puppy with attention is only going to encourage the puppy to keep crying.. it's the same as when they bark.. oh if I bark I get attention, so I'll keep going! Ignoring is the best way to STOP it. Giving treats and cuddles when pup cries will encourage it.
  7. He'll settle down.. he's probably just nervous and settling in... You're doing the right thing. My boy is still glued to my side at 18mths, but now when he stands outside the bathroom door or whatever he's silent.. he just stopped whinging. I wouldn't bang on the door as that could scare him... If you feel you must correct try a verbal AH! or similar.
  8. You keep control, by splitting them up when you want them to have a break.. puppy goes into his crate or pen, and older dog you just do what you normally do. Ours will break up the play when we ask, and then just go and curl up and sleep.. but they've always been good like that. We have a 4yo and a 18mth old.
  9. Goooo Suz!!!!!!!! So well deserved....
  10. Tried it tonight and the red one loved it.. think we're onto a winner He inhaled it... and even went back to check for scraps :D I shall be in touch..
  11. If it's come out and she's fine don't stress. Our pup ate a plastic bag when he was little.. he was a bit crook for a few days then it came out the other end.. We think th neighbours fed them over the fence...
  12. Sample arrived yesterday, talk about quick!! Thankyou Sherel
  13. Mine whinge and whine, but they certainly do not 'dictate' when they are fed. Last night they started at 6.30.. and didn't get fed til 8pm.. they'd been quiet for well over half an hour at that stage. The more they whine the LONGER it takes for them to get fed. I didn't see anyone in that thread say that as soon as their dogs start to whine the owners jump up and feed them... it's the opposite in fact.. They get fed when they get fed, not when they demand it. When I said we know about it if they aren't fed on time.. that's just because they keep whinging after 7.30.. then when they're quiet for 15-20 mins sometimes longer they get fed.
  14. If the stitches are due out on Monday, I'd just keep an eye on it.. if it starts weeping or looking nast or you're even slightly suss take him to the vet. If it's not bothering I wouldn't stress too much
  15. Mums got two desexed girls.. they've fought numerous times over the years.. doesn't help they're cranky old ladies now!
  16. I'm intrigued by this whinging around mealtimes thing - do people mean that their dogs start barking/whimpering? Our two kind of just stand there and look a bit soulful - maybe it's just that they really can't tell the time Yes... the V whines.. but it's more like a squeak. The Kelpie will walk up and repeatedly shove his head under your hand/arm and stare at you.. and if ignored will whine. They will keep it up for half an hour.... If it gets longer than half an hour, the V will lie on top of me looking miserable and whine and drool
  17. I get home at 5.45... if I'm late, by 6pm, Bundy is sitting by the window watching... he'll also run to the front door and back. He does it every time without fail. There is no set routine at home for tv or anything like that, so we aren't sure where he gets it from. Every night withotu fail, no matter what we're doing/watching they will start whinging for dinner, even though they don't get fed for half an hour. If we feed them later then boy do we know about it
  18. Oooh thanks.. I need a soft crate for when we go away on holidays next month..
  19. My boy flew from Tassie to Melbourne, smack on 8wks 16 months ago. He and his sister survived the 2.5hr delay really well, and just bounced out of their crate. He got his 8wk vac the day after he came home. I'm not really sure why people have problems with sending them on the plane at 8wks.. surely if it was that bad for them the airlines would say they couldn't fly till they're older? Each to their own though, but I'd just want my dog home sooner!
  20. Thanks to Sherel to her quick replies, I look forward to trying a sample.. The price is fantastic
  21. Did you just add oil to his food or did you change the food you gave them altogether? He did have some flakey bits the other day when I was going through his fur. I changed their dry food and added the oil for a few weeks while they slowly changed to the new food. Then stopped the oil as their skin was heaps better and the food has emu oil which is great for their skin. Thanks from me too My boy is mr itchy at the moment and is sooo flaky. I'll pick up some oil for him too.. Off to petstock on the way home methinks!
  22. Our kelpie was like this after OH's other dog died.. When I came onto the scene a few months later he was still really sad... He picked up a little bit, but he wasn't TRULY happy until our puppy came home the following November. He was very clingy and fretted if he was left alone, so he needed a mate. Some genuinely need a mate, others learn to cope on their own.
  23. Our 18mth old does similar.. it's quite funny really.. he ends up in a highpitched squeak
  24. Google says the most common fleas dogs and cats get are the cat flea..
  25. I'm pretty sure they're the same thing... if mums cat has fleas the dogs normally have them too..
