  1. From 8 weeks my boy came everywhere with me. He only socialised with vaccinated dogs, and didn't go near dog parks. If you're sensible about it I don't see the problem. If you go along the line of not taking pup places 'in case' they're exposed, then you better not take vaccinated dogs anywhere either because they can still get sick!
  2. Just walk him in on the lead... It's no more dangerous than an adult dog walking in IMHO..
  3. I have no other suggestions, they've all been covered... but never ever travel a pup in the footwell of the front seat, what happens if you have an accident? The front end of the car crumples. and you can end up stuck... What if your puppy was in there? The reason I say this, is we had an accident one night and smashed the front of the car, my foot got jammed behind the glove box briefly, and our puppy should've been in the car, sitting at my feet in the footwell. However a the last second we left him at home, and I'm glad we did, otherwise he wouldn't be here because he would've been tossed forward, straight into the impact zone. Until that night, I thought yep great spot for a pup, but never again.
  4. My laptop charger, that was an expensive lesson. The weirdest has to be something that i'm not going to mention here
  5. That is way too full on for a first email, as Cosmolo said, you can easily get an answer for a lot of those questions in one sentence, without seeming to be over the top. If I were a breeder and recieved an email like that, I would probably say thanks but no thanks. I can't think of anyone who'd have time to sit and answer that many questions. By all means ask questions, but you're buying a puppy, the breeders don't need a spanish inquisition!!
  6. Defintely don't have dogs that are fussy. If they are about some things i don't really notice. Bundy doesn't like wet feet (doesn't do him any favours that he pisses on them a lot but anyway) so he'll always lick his feet clean and dry before he leaves the back door to get on the couch or bed or whatever. You always know when he's missed his aim cos he'll lick just one leg for ages
  7. If she sleeps through with it in your bedroom, move it. She's only a baby and needs to know her people are close by. Then in a few months when she's older and settled move it where you want it. Our boy slept in our room with the crate at the end of the bed from day one, and he slept through from week two I think.. it was pretty quick anyway. After about a year we moved him into the lounge room and it's still all good. He'll sleep anywhere as long as he has his crate.
  8. move it around between her front legs, if she stands up put it further back, and don't teach beg if you want to do obedience. Took me months to unteach beg from my boy after OH thought he was clever. I ask for sit, he'd sit, then beg *sigh*
  9. Depends on the size of the dog. My boy and his sister flew in the same crate. Halved the cost for all of us, and they had some comfort. These were 8wk old Vizsla's. Some friends of ours had the other pup, so we just organised between ourselves to meet and pick them up. I booked my boy in, and our friends theirs and both specified they were to travel together. The breeder made sure it happened on the other end. Wasn't a logistical nightmare at all, paperwork on the crate said which dog was to go to who, so we just showed relevant ID and took the right dog home. Although, ours was easy cos one was a boy and the other a girl
  10. I'm another who took mine out from the start. His first walk was the day after he came home, and that was to the vets for a checkup! He was carried 95% of the way but he got to see and experience *everything* and meet heaps of people. He went to puppy school and met other vaccinated dogs belonging to family members. He's a very well adjusted 2yo, and loves everyone and everything. He got walks to the end of the street and back every day too. He had a couple of rough fear periods, and i know if the early socialisation was different, i'd be dealing with a more difficult dog now.
  11. Animal shows get most attention. Particularly cats or barking dogs. Tennis entertains the ball mad kelpie. I always end up laughing at them.
  12. Yep sucker here but only buy from the cheap shop. The longest laster is a ring with 4 squeakers. They had two rings but god knows where the other is. They also have a head off a toy with crinkly ears and a squeaker in the head thats still in tact. As long as toys squeak they're happy. I bought another one the other day and they ripped the leg off straight away, i was so bummed. My backyard is always full of snow. I am sooo glad my dog isn't as bad as some of these, but i know the 'tuffy' toys wouldn't work for him since he managed to chew through two canine leo's in about 10 mins.. the first time we thought it was faulty, the second was definitely the dog. Everlasting fire plug and treat balls were killed in a week, but the everlasting fun ball is still in tact.
  13. Sheena, my dogs drank excessive amounts of water on BH. Stopped feeding it and they no longer drank a bowl of water EACH numerous times a day. Nothing wrong with my dogs other than a food that didn't suit them. Pity cos it worked, but the amount they were drinking was insane.
  14. Mixing two drys together just ends up being time consuming and to me kinda pointless. As to how long a 15kg bag lasts it depends on how much your dog eats. My 21kg dog gets 2 cups twice a day and our kelpie at 25kg gets 1 cup once a day, and a 15kg bag lasts us 8 weeks, less in winter when the young one needs more food. There's a thread with Black hawk info somewhere, it tells you where to buy it. I found my dogs drank excessive amounts of water on it so they didn't stay on it, but every dog is different.
  15. As someone who has a dog who drops from a sit, teach a fold back.. Drop from sit makes them lazy, and in my boys case he doesn't throw himself into drop he ALWAYS sits first and 'slides'. I'm finding it super annoying now i'm in a club that prefers folds, cos he just doesn't want to
  16. We're about to start agility properly (been playing with basic stuff for a while but not with a proper club) and am thinking of trying flyball too Although for us it's one class on alternating weeks as they're on the same day.
  17. I'm not sure what the point of starting this thread was? There's people all around with similar thoughts.
  18. Sit back and laugh unless he is actually biting and being naughty. My 2yo does the best zoomies in the yard, I often end up in tears of laughter. Great for the soul.
  19. Wasn't the dog in the other threads an adult, yet this one is a puppy?
  20. Make the crate smaller so she can only turn around to sleep.
  21. You cant get mine out of the house in this weather
  22. Took until my boy was 8 months. They're all individuals so no two dogs will be the same.
  23. We did the same as Rally, now 95% of the time i can walk out of the room and he will not eat until I give the command. If he does break, he'll spit his dinner straight back out when he sees you and wait (he just looks at you like darn, i've been caught) If he didn't stop and think and kept eating, then he'd get it removed.
  24. KG and St A's is Nillumbik Pretty sure it's a permit for over 2 there, we only ever had two. The rangers are pretty tough.
