  1. This has to be the BEST three lines I have read on DOL this year. Absolutely gold, but so true.
  2. That is seriously the most bizarre statement I have ever read on these forums - in almost 8 years of membership! He's not a human - he's a DOG! But hey, I'm a breeder so I apparently treat my dogs like stupid lower life forms so that they're easier to manage! My dogs are anything but stupid, but I can assure you, they are definitely NOT human - strange, that! Agreed. If we wanted them to be children, we'd HAVE children!!!!!
  3. I have a blackdog and don't like it.. I find it fiddly to get treats out quickly... The hinges hurt when they shut on your hand.
  4. Sometimes we put our boy to bed say 9pm if we go to bed early, and he doesn't wake up til 9am the next morning by choice... I don't do it all the time because I feel bad but my dog doesn't care. If he had to be crated for any reason during the day, he'd have water but at night they don't.
  5. I'll be attempting to walk the boy before work.. After all i'm waking up early enough so i might as well.
  6. Other than the beaches, not really anywhere to walk as it's all farmland except for Foster. Foster has cafe's and things. Sandy point has a Cafe and a general store and that's about it. Waratah Bay has a general store at the caravan park. There are lots of places to visit in easy driving distance though.. You can take the dogs for a walk down at Port Albert, get fish and chips for lunch.. go for a drive to my favourite place Agnes Falls (can take the dogs too)... We've not tackled the walk from SP to the inlet, but I think that'll be on the cards this weekend.
  7. You can take dogs onlead at Sandy Point and Waratah Bay as long as it's before 9 and after 6pm from Dec to end of April. Between 9-6pm they're not allowed but it's generally quiet unless it's school holidays or there's a school camp going. We've occasionally taken them down when we're not supposed to, but haven't seen a ranger, let alone another person  There is a leash free area near the lookout at Sandy Point but we don't go there as SP is always busy. Waratah is heaps quieter. You really need a week to REALLY enjoy Wilsons Prom. We go to Waratah Bay a lot, but only spent a few hours in Wilsons Prom last time and it just wasn't enough.. We'd stayed down there for a week. It can take hours to get out of the Prom, but it depends how far you go. We only went to the walks about 15 mins in, walked for 2hrs and went out again.. It's my favourite place in the world. I could move there in a heartbeat.
  8. Your point?? They do it all the time
  9. Love it. I 'attempted' push ups tonight.. Needless to say I was on the floor in fits of laughter after number 2.. I had a vizsla lying on his back underneath me licking my face and neck   He wouldn't go away. Probably doesn't help that OH will lie on the ground and call him over and play! He just thought it was game time.
  10. 15 minutes is about right, although mine are 5 mins max normally. I wouldn't expect anything like that to last hours unless I had a tiny dog.
  11. oops sorry..............we do show, obedience and rally training at Ulverstone, sorry no agility Than's for that :) A few things to think about.
  12. Coco, if your dog has bald patches from the scratching or red bits (like under the armpits/tummy) get some Aloveen conditioner. You just put it on the itchy patches and leave it on. We had it suggested to us by one of the staff at petbarn yesterday, and in 24hrs there's a huge improvement. We've just changed him to sensitive skin proplan too.
  13. Happened to mine too, the amount they were drinking was ridiculous, it tripled at least. As soon as I took them off it they went back to their usual drinking habits. I'm talking a few laps turned into drinking a whole bowl at a time (and begging for a refill) when most days they only drink 1-2 bowls the whole day. I wasn't happy with that amount of water consumption (and the newly required toilet trips in the middle of the night!) so they came off it. I guess it depends on the dog, but it just didn't suit mine.
  14. Great attitude, maybe why your dogs don't miss you. My dog can pine, gets anxious so ideas as the OP is asking are valid. Mine hates me even LEAVING for work, his little world crumbles, and he is a very stressy dog as a rule however being away for extended periods of time it's not an issue for some reason. Probaby because he's too busy with new smells and new exciting things to notice :) The 'hardened' attitude is for MY benefit so that I don't worry about him My first post was possibly a bit harsh, but it wasn't intended to be. I just think sometimes we make it worse than it needs to be.
  15. What training is held there? I'm looking to do agility.... OH is possibly getting a transfer from Melb to Burnie, but unless I can do dog training easily it won't be happening, which is disappointing as it's a lovely area. My boy would (and does) go nuts if he doesn't get his agility training on a regular basis. I'm not too keen on the long travel every week, no matter how much I want to train  It'll be hard enough relocating to an area where i'll know no-one, let alone not being able to do the hobby we love... It's a long way off actually happening (Just a blip in the radar) but i'm covering all bases just in case ;)
  16. I guess so, but i had one dog that use to get depressed and "pine" for us, according to the minder anyway. I honestly don't think a photo would make a difference though, they don't know what they are. I sometimes think people like to tell us that the dogs missed us to make US feel better not because they actually did. If it bothers you that much maybe just leave her something with your smell that she can sleep on? There's not much else you can do?
  17. Nothing. They're dogs, they'll survive. My dogs never notice i've been gone until I get back.
  18. Can anyone tell me if there's any clubs near Burnie or Devonport that do Obedience and or Agility? Google is not helping..... Thanks!
  19. Poor bunny. I stood on a baby chicken once I was in bare feet too! I'm scarred for life after that and won't have anything to do with chicks.
  20. Ours wait for the command before they eat. The viz will occasionally sneak a mouthful as we put food in the kelpies bowl or while he's waiting for the command. As soon as we look at him and tell him to spit them out (sometimes not needed) he'll spit the bikkies back out, sometimes doing it in one go, other times he'll pretend they're all gone but they're not. His facial features always give him away, and a spit it out will get him to drop the rest  Reduces us to fits of laughter without fail.
  21. I would assume they're just covering their asses because i'm sure there's some people who'd sue them for misdiagnosis if they said it was just a haematoma and it didn't end up being one at all.
  22. The BIG thing to remember is you only brought him home YESTERDAY, stop putting so much pressure on your puppy and on yourself, you can't expect miracles in a day. What you've read WILL happen for you but you need to give him time. Feed all his meals in his crate. Shut him in there with some toys and just leave him be for a while, he's obviously comfy in it or you wouldn't get him to be so chilled overnight. Understandably during the day he'd rather be exploring and doing fun stuff... For the first week my boy got playtime, time out of his crate then back in to sleep. Sounds to me like he's not interested in the treats because they're too boring. Get some chicken loaf or similar and use that.. It has to be something fun and a novelty.
  23. Keep him outside or crated until everyone is settled. My boy had the same habit around a similar age. We reduced the excitement levels, and he grew out of it quickly, although he still wee's in excitment when we go to my dads  Perhaps out of habit, as it happened the first time he ever went there.
