  1. Hi everyone, I appreciate the responses. My dog is having her 4th treatment this week. The first and third treatment showed promising signs, however, the second course had no affect. We may opt out the 2nd session and replace with an alternative treatment or skip the 2nd session for future treatments which would definitely alleviate the financial burden. We will do an x-ray for the next visit and then see if there are definitive signs the treatment is working. Overall, she may not be on the usual protocol as she has an abnormal form of cancer, so it is hard to tell what the overall cost will be. Regardless of her diagnosis, she is considerably a well active senior dog and has a lot of life in her and deserves a fighting chance. I'll keep going with the treatment as long as she continues to show healthy signs of progress.
  2. The treatment is done at her general vet. No information sheet was provided regarding the full cost, it was only verbally stated during consult and over the phone. I did question the cost and they said it was due to the rising cost of the chemo medicine ordered in. I was considering a referral to a specialist centre, however, vet said it could cost up to 25k and logistically it would be tricky for me to take her there but at the rate the vet is charging, I am now wondering if it would have been better going there instead.
  3. Hi DOL members, My dog sadly has lymphoma cancer and we have only just started chemo treatment. Fortunately, I have pet insurance, however, at the current cost the vet is charging I am not sure I will be able to afford the entire protocol treatment until her insurance renews. Initially, the vet roughly estimated the cost would be 12k during consultation, then it jumped to 15k from a phone conversation and finally, from her last visit, the vet charged $300 more than estimated from previous visit. I did the math, and it appears the vet is aiming to charge up to 20k in total for the full protocol. At this going rate, my dog will not have the opportunity to receive enough chemo treatment sessions cause I will not be afford to pay her treatment once the insurance benefit maximum limit runs out. I am curious if other members have encountered a similar scenario, and is this typical for a vet to charge this much?
  4. Hi Members, any experience with shrinking lipomas. My corgi dog Bella of 13 years of age and has two large lipomas on her stomach/chest and one small lump under her right armpit, confirmed by biopsy. Since I have returned from interstate and am on a mid-semester break from studies, I have been closely managing her diet to reduce her weight and have noticed her lipomas are starting to shrink. Previously, she was slightly overweight (under 13.5kg). I usually aim to keep her weight around 11.5-12kg. In researching online, I have gathered they do not disappear entirely but can shrink. I am curious what other dog owners have experienced with your dog's lipomas?
  5. My 8 year old corgi's ear has recently turned floppy in the last couple of days. It's most noticeable every time she runs around or plays her right ear keeps flopping and is not erect. Any ideas how this happened? Will it resolve on it's own or should I seek medical treatment for this?
  6. May be a bit late for a reply but ill give you some feedback from past experience. My dog Bella has stayed at both DogDayz in Warandyte formerly Lyndon park (not the seville one only Warandyte, they own think at least total of 3 kennels), and the Dogs Country Club. Both are excellent kennels but expect to cough up quite a chunk of expense ontop of your holiday. My dog will be boarding at the country club again during October. They have had two price hikes since her last stay in May last year. They have off-peak and on-peak rates, they do do discount on extended stay eg.longterm boarding. Rates can vary based on size of dog from both kennels. The country club normally boards the dog in shared accommodation with a compatible playmate/s whereas DogDayz/Lyndon normally offers solo accommodation for your dog. Both kennels have beautiful acres of land so you can't go wrong with either for a good exercise for your dog. Is your dog over 6 months old, or at least will be around 6 months by the time she is due to boarded? Make sure his/her vaccinations are up to date preferably the c5 vaccine to allow her to boarded in a kennel. Christmas is a very busy period especially in kennels, you may still be ok to book either kennel if you ring them now. I would advise to inspect the kennel/s before making a booking cause its nice knowing where your dog is staying and what its like. In the past i have inspected at least over 10 in Melbourne. Those kennels were the only two that ticked all the right boxes for me. Goodluck in finding a good holiday place for your pup.
  7. I just received my first order today (60g). Was bought on the 19th and the seller was allcreaturesvets from ebay. Package was listed as gift and a description stating parcel has plaque remover.
  8. Hey, a few months back when i went overseas i had my dog boarded at this kennel http://www.lyndon.com.au. I inspected up to 7 kennels total and nothing else came to my standards as lyndon. My dog was in the exact same condition as i had left her when i went to pick her up after long-term boarding. They let them socialize with other dogs with similar temperament and size, exercise them twice a day on grass, have indoor heating and they feed my dog her own food that i provided. Its also in the eastern suburbs Warrandyte area which maybe local for you. From my experience see as many kennels you can to get an idea what feels suitable for your dog and asks lots of questions, good luck in your search.
  9. That means do not attempt to induce vomit at home, seek medical attention imediately. I followed those instructions and went with what the vet's recommendation was.
  10. Hi Tilly, thanks for that information. I tried to find something similar on the blu tack website but couldn't find anything as detailed as that report. I'm still glad i took her to the vet given the amount of blu tack missing, if it was only a small amount i wouldn't have bothered. Just wanted to be sure for my own peace of mind.
  11. Hey all, Today my dog ate a golf ball size amount of blu tak. I think she chewed it in pieces then ate it,lol. I looked all around the house to see if there was any pieces lying around but couldn't find any. So i rang the emergency clinic for advice and they had recommended to bring her in case there was a blockage. Because i don't drive i had to find transportation, i rang everybody but couldn't reach anyone so in the end i got a taxi there. They gave her something so she could vomit it up and only a few bits came out. She's doing fine now, i just need to keep a close eye on her. I thought should post a thread cause i did a search and could not find much info relating to dog's digesting "blu tak". Am curious if anyone here has had any similar experiences if you could please share?
  12. Thanks for the feedback guys. She ate her breaky fine an hour after she vomited and was her usual playful self in the backyard with her toys. I think i may give her worming treatment with her dinner next time. Cause i gave the the treatment before bed, it may not have been the best as her stomach may have been empty.
  13. Yea it was before breakfast, i just find it unsual as this rarely happens.
  14. She sicked up this yellow liquid twice this morning. Night prior gave her worming treatment, its the first time ive used the product it was interceptor spectrum in the chewy form. Could it be the worming treatment that made her sick? She has vomited before eg. once my mum feed her chum dog food and it made her sick. So i think she may have a sensitive stomach towards certain foods. Appreciate some advice as am not sure if i should continue using this product.
  15. Hi Miss B, the last time i checked her wound the blood was drying up a bit. Have made sure she hasn't been doing any jumping, climbing stairs nor rough play. Most of the day she's been in her crate resting, though tonight she was abit restless and hasn't gone to toliet yet. Hopefully she'll improve more tomorrow. She didn't look so good after the vet, maybe due to the effects of the anaesthetic.
