Yea we have a blanket that covers the whole crate. We tend to leave it from covering the door though!! Last night was a bit different as i must have not closed the crate door proply in my dozy zomby state when i took her to the toilet. And i woke up again to take her to the toilet and she was sitting out the front of her crate whining... She went wee on the carpet... Atleast it wasnt a full wee as i took her outside still and she went again. She was a bit upset about the fact she weed inside i think as she yelped for a good 20minutes after that before she went to sleep.... May aswell have been as she thought she could break out of the crate. My bad lol. Ohhhwell all in all i think shes doing pretty well. And i thank everyone on this forum so much! Its a huge help to talk to other beagle owners. Took her to the supermarket the other day in kellyville and a lady was tieing her 8 year old lemon beagle up outside!! She was gorgeous and the lady melted over little Bailey Haha!

Yep. Our little Beagle pup "Bailey" is 8 Weeks old and she SNORES!!!! Louder than an average human! And she dreams..... Just before when i got home from work she was asleep in her bed downstairs shaking up and down like she was running and playing... Must have been a good dream! Its very cute. And well as far as ive heard. Very common.

I have been pushed towards that Eagle pack many times. I think i may just go and buy her that yellow Eagle Pack bag of puppy food next week and slowly put her on that. Check ya PMs Huski! Ben

Ohh great thanks for that! She has eaten that food since my last post I am currently giving her about 100gms of food 3 times dailey. Thats what the back of the food bag/what the breeder told us to do, Around about. I bought some VIP puppy dog roll at the supermarket today so will try my luck with that for dinner. As i dont want her just on dryfood, I know its not that bad for them id just prefer her to be getting some fluids through food aswell as water.

She Sleeps at the end of the bed! She normally wakes us up about 10mins before my alarm goes off so i will set it to 3 not 3.30 now. Thanks for your advice. At the moment she is out in her play pen. And she is not happy about that. She has a KONG with the food in it. A puppy teething tennis ball. A little pull rope. And another teether. She is biting at the sides screaching and carrying on like she was last night. Only this time she has been at it for over 30minutes. I kind of wish i hadnt put her in there now, But i need to vacume and get some house work done as its a pigsty. Ill just leave her in it untill she settles down now right? OHHH SHES JUST STOPED!!!!! YUSSSS!!!!!! Thanks Ben

Our beagle is 8wks old now. We picked her up on friday night. The Breeder gave us a small bag of the food she was on (DR Harrys supercoat puppy [purina]) we used up the hole bag. half on friday night (as instructed) she ate it all. And the other half on sat morning. She at that 2. So we were out of food. We went to the supermarket and got a bag of the same stuff. Although the biscuits are different in shape they dont smell diff. And the are what we were told to give her. We have been giving her small peices of poached chicken for training. Now she doesnt eat much of the dry food. for dinner last night she had a little bit. And breaky this morning she sort of just sniffed. Had a little bit, Then some water and that was that. She did as a whole get quite a bit of chicken as we did alot of training. Could it be that because we have given her chicken as a treat she doesnt want her dry food now? Or she may have just been not hungry?

Lol i think the topics gone a bit off keeping a cat "OFF" your property. I would just start using the hose if i were you! Cats HATE water. And if you are consistant and trigger happy with the hose shell eventually bugger off. Get one of those hose guns and set it to SUPERSOAK! Get her good ;):D:D

Great thanks for that! She is asleep in her downstairs bed at the moment. Might have a few late nights then :S We were thinking if she keeps on doing it to just pick the crate up with her in it and take her downstairs to the kitchen/lawndry. Good idea?

ohh no!! haha yea she is a cutie! Very soft and squishy. i could make another lil pup out of her excess skin haha. Last night we went to bed and put her in. She was good. Got in herself and we sat there untill she went to sleep. She did. Woke up at 11.30 and put her out for a wee. She did her buisness straight away and came back in. But this is where im having problems. She wants to play. And i put her back into her Crate and she starts crying and like a screaming sound!! its terrible! But last night we just left her (i am sure we woke alot of neibours up! Its a very horrible sound as she cant really bark yet! She went full on for 15 minutes. By that stage we were going grey! But then she just stoped! About a minute later we heard here snoring. 3.30 i woke up again to take her out. She did her thing. Same problem again... She was all rested so.... She wanted to play. But i put her in the crate again. With a little peice of chicken. Closed the door. Turned out the light and went to sleep. She started again. For those of you who know what im talking about it is a very very horrible scream. It sometimes sounds like a sick baby crying.. then a bird squarking. lol. BUT. This time she only went for 5 minutes!!!. And again we heard her snoring shortly after. This morning we woke at 7. And she was just lieing in her crate peacefully chewing on her big koala teddy. Are we going about it the right way? Any other sujestions to calm her down? Cheers Ben

Hi there MP I dont know how to fix the problem. But it must be something about malteses lol. Because one of our friends owns 2 malteses. One of them is lick mad. When you say hello to her she just sits there making a happy growl type noise and licks like mad! The air. then you go to pat her and she just licks away. Haha Its actually very amusing hahah!

Bailey is only 8 weeks old and she does that beagle buisness pose ALL the time!!! She always runs around jumping up and down around the lawn then just pauses! The paw comes up and she stays there for ages! Just looking... Nose going from side 2 side! Quite funny

Hi all. I know there are alot of posts on here about crate training your pups. I am just after a bit of advice We picked up our little beagle girl "Bailey" on friday night. Played around with her for a while tryed a bit of toilet training. That went well. Then we introduced her to her crate. But i do admit we did it at 11pm and just wanted to go to bed.. (yes that was a mistake) so prob didnt take as much time as we should have. She walked in by herself. We had a nice new blanket in there that we put her in from the minute we picked her up (she slept peacefully the hole 40min car ride home without a squeak) and a peice of the blanked she grew up sleeping on with the rest of her litter (she is 8wks old). And a toy. She would play a bit. and while she was buisy playing i just pushed the door closed, that worked for a about 5 mins and then she started to yelp and cry and i mean really cry! Another mistake on our behalf was we got her out of the crate and put her in bed with us untill she went to sleep. Which was about a minute or 2. I then carryed her over to the crate, put her in, closed and locked the door. She woke up, looked around, sniffed a bit, made herself comfortable and went to sleep in the crate with the door closed and a blanket over the crate. It was about 12am by then. She slept uninterrupted for 4 hrs. We woke up and just as i went to get her out to take her to the toilet she went pee. And was very upset that she went in her crate!!! But she still went outside 2! Then comes the problems... She wants to play after that! And if i put her in the crate to go back to sleep she just crys and yelps. Untill shes all played out and tired again. So i didnt get much sleep. I finally got her to sleep and another 4 hours of sleep it was time to get up anyway. Tonight.. She has been running around like mad (as puppys do), As sujested on this forum ii poached some chicken this morning for training. We introduced her (again) to the crate this arvo by throwing little bits of chicken into the crate. And when she went in we would give her a "good girl" and a rub. We would close the door as she was eating then open it again. Now she has just started to slow down a bit. So i opend the crate door. Threw a peice of chicken in. She got in by herself and i could see she was starting to get comfortable. So i closed the door and went to sit on the couch (We moved the crate downstairs) She sniffed abit and then started yelping and crying. but this time we just left her. She can see us perfectly well. She cryed for about 5 mins. Put her head down and is now asleep. Are we going about it the right way? Is it the thing to do, just ignore her when she crys and yelps looking at us with those sad eyes? I am about to get her out and feed her so shes not to active before we go to sleep. Im sorry about the long post. Just thought id tell everyone from the start where i went wrong so it may help people give us some good advice. Just took this photo.

Thats some very very good advice Huski thanks so much for that! I like the sound of that NILIF. Once i have taught her some basics i think that will be the way to go and really i agree with it 100%. The one thing i dont want is a dog thats the boss of me or my partener Sarah. Thanks so much for the advice. I will post up a video of her when we get her and some more photos of her at home. Also we have got a crate. It is upstairs in our room as thats where she will sleep. We also have a little bed downstairs in the living room right with us for during the day and when we are not sleeping. Cheers everyone. If anyone has anything els they would like to add feel free i am all ears/eyes Ben & Sarah

Ohh we know how you feel! We had a Beagle pup all ready to go but our landlord took a long time time to get back andwe had to let him go! We had a deposit down with the breeder and all! But it all worked out in the end
-
I love that idea i will do! Ive heard from alot of places that chicken is pretty good for training and the pups love it! Do you have a puppy?
-
Ok great thankyou for your advice PPS and Labby. I will do some hunting around at vets then We have read ourselves to sleep at night for the past 4 weeks on different training methods man there are alot! We may just try what seems to work and have some nice fresh meat on the ready for training rewards The minute she is home i will take her outside and see if she wants to go as its a 40min drive! Its near Penrith. Thats what we need to really crack down on is the Toilet training as we are renting!!! Although we are not expecting no accidents! Its all pretty exciting for us. I grew up on a farm so have only had Boarder collies and they are a dream and our one back home is still going strong at nearly 15. So a beagle should be different, But we have read all the negatives and the positives and well, Sarah and i think we can do it! Ben

Also are there any dog parks around kellyville? I think i saw one in Rouse Hill just behind the big fruit shop and shell on windor road?

Ok have you heard some 'not so good' things about kellyville pets puppy school? Thanks for your reply Ben & Sarah
-
Hi there, Thanks for that! We have a little brochure here on kellyville pets puppy school and they check all vac docs before letting puppys in! YAY! Ok so if we just let her settle for the w.e then maybe Sunday we just start trying "come" command or something? Have you used those puppy schools you sujested? Were they good? Thanks for your reply! First of all hello all, This is Ben and Sarah. We are going to pick up our first beagle puppy on friday night (26th) she will be 8 weeks old. and we are SOO excited. But just in need of help with a few things. We are all ready as far as the house goes! Its puppyproof! We have a lil bed for downstairs and a crate in our room for sleeping. A heap of toys, puppy Kong etc. Outdoor puppy pen. Little collar and lead. What i am wondering is when should we start training? Straight away? or wait for a bit? We are going to take her to kellyville pets for a bit of training, Good idea? Does anyone have any tips for training a little beagle that we can try ourselfs? Here she is last friday so @ 7 weeks! Looking around She found a scent around the bin! We would put her down and she would run straight back to that spot!
