  1. OH's jrt was 18 heading for 19.... he did not so much pass away as killed....he grabbed a snake in his territory... chewed it up into a million bits... same as my 14 nearly 15 yo jrt... she protected the other younger dogs... bc she made about 15 totally blind... no hearing would run into things as she still loved to run.... had to pts. i don't think i have ever owned a dog that hasn't made 14 at least. one only died in with no sign (i would guess natural causes)
  2. if i got some parkas ex ski hire ones all sizes. i am taking on a rescue dogie maybe could i give you some raw materials not sure how to get it to you.... might be able to get a whole bag garbage bag of them..pants or parkas human ones. could i get one dally sized jacket? pretty please? it would save me 60 bucks buying one.... and i could help you guys as well...
  3. i like the idea if its no good it comes out straight away... 1st hand puke is your own... which my dog loves... but he really likes 2nd hand puke.... which is some one elses puke. even better to eat 2nd hand puke.
  4. as for being illegal, i would think only if you get caught..... as for making dog sick only if it pukes was the OH's very helpful reply! shish men! our dog will catch and kill given a chance they seem to love the taste, not mine tho.
  5. sometimes i think people loose sight of what's important..... this comes with a warning i tend not to be eloquent and have a hard time making my point with out it coming out wrong. i feel the forum is to help all people but often (i can think of the poster jamieson) who come in here asking for help and leave feeling..... like a bad person. that poster needed help re welping and the focus turned to the fact or not if there was a prefix. a prefix or not cannot change the (outcome) dog was having pups, but some of the talk gave an impression of the person being a byb for money. it is very easy to see someones circumstances on the other side of the computer.... i find its not! but some others do! the poster no matter how genuine may have been put off even trying to go down the right path in the future. me i have found most advice and comment to be great and different ways of doing things really helpful. good practise applies to both pb and mogrels equally. i see the fourm of a way of helping people no matter what sort of dog they own.
  6. ok now looking for transport doggies are bathurst lithgo area. i will start phoning trucking people tomorrow.... from bathurst to canberra would be good next week some time... we can be flexialble...
  7. we have a mixed bag of doggies. 1 x foxie cross chi! 2 x jrt 1 chi x pom 1 dally. we don't do formal walks as such. we have horses too so dogies walk with me/OH to feed horses, catch horses, rug horses work horses etc. the dallys needs include sleeping as close to the heater as is possible is is suposed to run long distances um yes 3km behind the quad bike to letter box and back he needs a long lie down. if he manges not to trip over on the way. the jrt (mine) he will accost the customers who come to the OH work shop to throw his ball is clock work... the humans give up first. his front teeth are worn down from carrying his ball. he will also hunt mice to the same degree. we say he is ball ocd. the foxie cross is easy and will sleep all day and night. the last jrt (OH's) is just a stick beak... so a huge wanderer. my jrt will not allow any one else to fetch. they all do tricks.....OH's jrt can sit in beg for as long as he wants....30min not a problem. the dally does the most with drop, sit, hi five, paws on your knee, comando crawl, roll over he now even does recall. none of which he could do before i got him a year ago. not even recall.
  8. i chose to get an older re homed dog, but had one of the rescue ladies say i was selfish not wanting to be to be bothered with a "piddlely pup" (yes the piddlely pup was my quote to her) puppies are nice but when you work it can be hard work... my thought was get it in that horrible teenage stage when most people re home.... they can do the hard puppy yards! and i can have the fun time..... teeny years!..... the last 3 of our dogs came this way and could not be happier! as for the nasty cat..... my friend has one..... it was re homed to her! yes it has climbed her leg while doing the midnight toilet run....it really does try to go for the jugular vein. no dog has ever taken it on and won!.....nor another cat!
  9. lets see barney our jrt... was re homed because he wandered.... not so silly right. they had no fence. worked away 8.5hours a day.... no dog yard. refused to tie him while getting a dog yard, so he used to cross the hwy. Oh and they didn't de sex till after he started wandering! yeap bad doggie.
  10. just to be clear..... you want me not to offer to help? i do know most of us do not know each other personally, i would find this so much easier over coffee! i am not so eloquent in print! sorry i have had many dogs that went to god early due to all sorts of problems..... i thought it only right to offer help when it sound like the dogs needed something special. i have a long rural back ground( and acreage so no limit to the amount of dogs i can have apart from mr clydes) so a great deal of animal husbandry experience over lots of animal not just dogs.... the eye problem sounded bad but really bad due to human neglect. i have taken in many a neglected, near deaths door, cast off animal. i thought it might be worth a try. i know you say it will be hard but nothing ever worth doing is easy!
  11. let me just fill you in... i have fostered humans.... a dog will not steal out of my wallet nor rob you blind....nor try to make a pass at your OH! i do not live past the black stump but you can see it from here. so you have to stand on your own feet. there are no services... none. you either do it your self or go with out. we are lucky to have a bush vet, who does most stuff you only hear of in vet horsepital...in a bush setting without even a theatre. if the dog were not suitable to re home... what i can promise is they can be pts. same as we do for an animal in this house hold horse included. as for expecting dol to help, i have been told many times i should have pot plants... not animals. so i would think i would get less than the average for help. i offered because i did say way back it seemed a shame... to pts. then another poster said unfair of me to say that unless i put my money where my mouth was.... so i thought why not.... stand up for what i believe in. oh and dally rescue if you have a look in our dally thread has a few and have no room.... not really trying to steal any ones thunder.
  12. my dally i expect him to look purty and cuddle on the couch  .this he does well. i don't think he could keep his mind on the job long enough to cook dinner, however coffee would be roolly nice! the jrt does the mouse thing, yes he would fight to death if he needed to! which is a pain everyday, as he picks the fights and then won't back down. as for the jrt making coffee he would so he could drink it.... although if he ever does get hold of one, OMG :D :p he laps the lounge room till ...... so he won't be allowed to even try it!
  13. yes like the ds cord the matian ate..... measurement left it laying about... toilet rolls that have turned to snow... so as a nice doggie owner i let him have old horse hoof inside to chew.... yes this is disgusting, the OH never lets me forget it, but the dog has not chewed anything since i started this.. oh and the kitchen door has scratch marks on it... as they all try to dig there way inside. the crate that takes up the left over space in my lounge... the million accidents he had the first few days here, as he had a kidney infection.... thanks doggie...
  14. mine come in a little bottle.... they just sit there.... should think of it more often. most often i think about it at the bedtime wee! like i can be bothered then!
  15. well knowing how my finances are at this moment, bit of morgage stress with it going up over $300.00 since last year... but OH would(MAYBE allow me) take on dogs in preference to them being shot/pts (well in the sticks we say shot!). vet would need pics to give a slightly better quote.... they did say if really bad it may not be fixable.... but without a consult he is just crystal balling.... in 3months i had leo doing a fair bit of obedience, in fact enough tricks that most folks meeting him would like to own him. with no cost and dol help do you guys think we could find some forever homes? if they come here for a set time.... lets say till end of winter? with step childs help i could do video and post when dogs get solid with training?
  16. you moved house and lost em somewhere.... i have no excuse..... they are just in a draw.... saving them cause they cost about 80cents each you know. money doesnt grow on trees...... not sure why i keep thinking to save em.... they are already paid for.
  17. ok my vet said.... tis surgery but minor..... cost would be $300.00-$500.00 per dog so about 1k all up....they said it can be done by a normal vet and does not need a specialist.... after care would include some ointment or drops... for a short time. i can't remember if op said they were already spayed, but that could and would be done as the 2 ops.under the same sedation.
  18. can't remember weather i already said this sc...., but do you know about wee sticks(human ones you just order at the chemist)..... you can catch the wee in a frying pan... (so you dont get wee'd on) and test it. i sometimes do it with leo. checks protein ph bloods etc.... fun to do from time to time.... well looking at the results... not catching and testing wee!
  19. some of you will know this i am sure.. you can shrink you file and directly upload it here, but if you have dial up or a small upload download limit shrinking them can be a drama. upload can be a small thing or a large bill if you run out... there is a free shrinking program called riot it will let you choose the size of you file... and the number of pixels... means no more uploading and downloading to shrink and you can fiddle with the pics in you own time.... if you only have dial up, you do not need to be on line. most of the pics i put up are done by riot... an example...
  20. i have a photo tip for you guys but i might start thread.
  21. well that is relative.... if one our truck driving mates is going to sydney the cost would be a crate of beer or grease the drivers palm and dog would ride in the front with driver...most like a freebie if the right driver. or i drive to sydney i think last week that cost me about $100.00 give or take some tolls... or we get a doggie transport company to do it and it will cost a squillion dollars. :D all depends how urgent the need is..... option 1 on a truck means i start making a million phone calls.... over the next few days and nights....other times this can take a week of chasing leads to get some one...although i do know a few drivers so... sydney will be easy.... tying to cross 2 states is hard! option 2 means i could do on the weekend... no keen but could do a day run.. doggie transport well that can happen any time.
  22. if you are going to pts and the either of the other 2 won't be likely to kill my jrts. then i will take one on... so long as there is not hundreds of dollars in transport costs... i will give it a bash, we do have a few dogs but one more what the hell. i think tis a shame, to see a humans neglect of a minor issue be the death of a dog.... but does some one want to volunteer to tell my OH.... :D i might just have to be really nice to him for a while
  23. peresphone.... that is so simple it's gold..... i wish i had that a year ago...leo being 34kg and taught to pull on the lead being long ingrained the only way i could even start to sort it out was a way i would be stoned to death here for using ... but now a year later he nearly walks on a flat collar... we might come back to a check chain. although he came with one nearly cutting his head off.... and of no use at all. we nearly cut him getting it off. your advice is gold pure gold.
  24. that was what i thought reading the link. they said if not corrected you might need drops.
  25. maybe if you approached a uni? like sydney and explained they "might be able to use dogies as practice and the op may not cost.... most people don't like to see a dog who is healthy and no personality probs pst. i know wagga uni will do work with dogs and cats for rspca etc to improve the chances of re homing mainly de sexes but other stuff too.
