Should I Or Shouldn't I? Any Thoughts Appreciated.
voloclydes replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
sophie is coming along in leaps and bounds.... (yes she has a couple of offers of a home, but i thought a bit unsuitable) but then so is tango..... they are often more forgiving than we give him credit for. sorry for the spelling above too.... damn phone is a bit small to type on.... i tend to miss the errors on such a small screen and small keys create them mistakes. -

some how i don't think i should answer that...... We still have sophie....... But we are being very picky due to her brother bweing pts after being re homed within a day. Me i would but it they really care about the dog say you will do all the vet stuff and make sure he gets a great home either with you or some one else..... Get em to lower the money.....the pound will not give them money! -
leo the dally loves em....tis how i train him. he drools too... sophie the dally will eat them because he (leo does) but is not sure why she does but will not spit it out. the jrts etc look at leo like he's a nutter.....which he is.

Where Can You Take Your Dogs To Play In The Snow?
voloclydes replied to nynka's topic in General Dog Discussion
this is a really hard and silly thing to say by it was almost white enough here to ski this morning and most of the day from cooma to coast and out to the mountains. supposed to snow here tonight as well. -
Success! And Another New Experience
voloclydes replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
well sophie now likes pats.... she throws here self at you for em....and drags her self round the floor on her belly for you to scratch her back. but coats are ok... only as long as you don't rip the velcro then she goes in orbit. see you can treach an oldie new tricks it just takes longer. -
lets see my magna had a barrier the proper one... if the dogs refuse to stay while i shut the lid i tie to a strap tied to the child restraint attachment. i have carpet very cheap nylon stuff taken out of a motel. which allows me to sweep hair out. this carpet is over the normal lot to keep it clean.... with the barrier in they all just sleep in the back... not a sound.

if the behaviourist...gives any good tips please pass em my way. i am going to test sophies wee to see if it shows anything.... then we will go from there. the wee might be an achievement. yesterday we saw her poop and NOT eat it. we are giving her2- 3 cups of biccys too... she's not really gained a huge amount of weight either. she won't go thru the night without getting a drink... she will be sleeping outside so i can get some sleep. 4 interrupted sleeps this week so far, i'm getting suit cases under my eyes... and working 6 days... i need a good sleep.

wow you have done well kirty. do you have my email? would you send it along with tilly to her new home? sophie has had a friend of mine here today and she was keen to say hello but not keen to come.... was it tilly who drank heaps? sophie has been waking at nights want to go out for water... and i am not talking a small amount either 1/2 a litre in a bowl( i gave her) and still wanted to go out for more. i am going to try and test her wee... and see how we go with that.

Why Does She Rub Her Face In Foul Odours?
voloclydes replied to bullyfan's topic in General Dog Discussion
your lovely doggie is just trying to smell gorgeous for you! yeah i know we have a bunch that love smelly stuff and often one bath is not nearly enough to remove the nice odour.... no help but sympathy is heading your way.... they do not seem to grow out of it either. -
did you guys know they had dog beds for about 19.99 and they had stuffing in them with a polar fleece top... big enough for a 38 inch crate.... i thought not a bad price. it was there normal price too.

idiagdog..... that's a great sight..... a dead fox. bit like the dingo that was not roaming our area and killing sheep and chooks. so my neighbour shot it and then called rural lands. she had sighted it plenty and got told she was a mental case. she asked em was it ok to shoot it if it was only a wild dog(as they told it would only be a wild dog not a dingo) , to which they gave her permission. it made the front page of the local paper too!

i have face ache now thanks hp! i have several that would do exactly that.... he burnt all the hair on his tail while attacking the fierce wind blowing in his face..... the real story... OH was blowing gently on his nose..... tail was wagging so hard it kept hitting on the glass of the wood heater which was glowing red..... now we have singed brown tail hairs....... and at the time that nice burnt hair stench. always great!

I Found A Dog Today - Shame About It's Owners!
voloclydes replied to ashaflynn's topic in General Dog Discussion
when a dog is in season.... the instinct to mate is strong.... i have had (a long time ago) a female in a town situation in which a dog from 3km away tryed to break my laundary door down and nearly suceeded.... it was a large ridge back and very strong. if a male is determined or a female in that case unless they are locked in a mesh box, hard to stop nature taking it course. even then if the fence is large mesh i have seen a tie thru the fence.not sure how but .... nature is a funny thing. not saying its right mind...... the chain may have been the only way to contain the dog.... seasoned escapees can be tricky to deal with. they might not have had the option of leccy ping string.... etc. they might be renting and not allowed to build a yard.... there a thousand reasons...... although it you guys want to see every dog owner except those angels who post here on dol.... as bastards that need to be shot! with poor long suffering dogs who should be pst..... so be it. if the op feels the dog would be better off dead why did they save it from being killed on the road? -

voloclydes replied to ashaflynn's topic in General Dog Discussion
if they have resorted to chaining dog up it suggest to me a harry Houdini....... and they could very well be trying to keep doggie out of trouble and not suceeding. sorry i just think its very easy to sit in judgement of people, while i do understand your frustration. there is not much you can do... if you do dump the dog at the pound you do not know if the owners will pick her up or she will be pst. in the case of a harry houdini, they might decide seeing as she's already there to leave her there easier all round if they have reached the end of there rope. it could make things worse for the dog! -

good job in saving a dog in the road.... but really you only spoke to the owners for less than 30min? and from that you have decided that they don't care about the dog and are not going to de sex or take steps to fix the fence. the poor guy may have been embarrassed if the dog has become harry Houdini.... and a tart too boot. people don't always do the worst thing. they may not want to get into a discussion about dog ownership.... with a stranger. their fence maybe fine, but the dog may have decided to make a break for it..... even with their best intentions. whos to say the milk man did not leave the gate open or neighbour hood kids! :D -
ms g. not sure if you know sophie, tilly and woodbynes old girls story but they are very scared of humans and the lead is stressfull. due to being just left to fend for themselves in a yard and pack sitution. one of the others rescued from this same situation was pst due to the fact he was sooo terrified and out of his environment... that he was running into objects like trees and fences to get away when cornered he attacked. he did take skin off his face and was getting worse in 24hours not better. they are a very sad story... which we will only know a small part. i did cop a bit of flack from saying some one should try and then more flack when no one else would/could help for saying i would give it a bash. so far so good! hopefully when her time comes to find a real home some one here will know some one who will love sophie in spite of her troubles. as she gives lots of affection but she is just not sure how to.

Tango Made A Big Breakthrough - Updated
voloclydes replied to spottychick's topic in General Dog Discussion
it saddens me to see a breed with such a forgiving temp fall into/onto such hard times as these 2 have. leo will let anyone sit on him with only a groan.... the 12yo does all the time. i think you would be able to tend his wounds without sedation.... unlike the jrt who would take off your arm at the shoulder. he gets snappy. -
in the pic where child has food.... he is making leo do tricks..... you know the sort sit leo, hi five leo, but as leo is on a diet.... child gets a bite of the food! :) as you can see he had their undivided attention even tho they never got a crumb of doughnut.

yeah seems to be making progress but a bit disjointed..... here's a strange one for you she eats her dinner like she's never seen food..... saying it's gorn in under 30seconds.... is maybe giving her extra time... this last night OH said try her on a breakfast..... well she was not sure what to do with it she looked at it.... for a full 10seconds before eating at a normalish.... well still fairly fast (no gulping and choking it down) pace! very strange. would it be the fact she has never been fed in the morning? or not as hungry ? seemed a bit weird.

well where to start some things seem to have not come along at all and some thing seems totally different and i marvel at how far she has come. the toileting in side has not changed much on step forward and two back ( not helped by a teen who thinks watching the dog consists of playing play station). also we have now confirmed eating of the poo, which explained why sometimes i swear she had pooed but i could not find it! the things that have suprised me she spent a weekend with step child and his mates they jammed with drums and a band where she had not one accident for the whole weekend. she did not even mind the noise of the band. the last 2 days she has approached the OH and tryed to play... she has no idea how but loves a belly rub and will fall flat on her belly and skate on the floor for a hard back rub! she still will gulp her whole dinner in under 30seconds... or less. she almost chokes....she has learned how to play with our lot without taking it as life and death fight. she loves to run if we go out any where and that for leo is not a fave thing although running about with her has meant he has learnt not to trip flat on his face so much. she has some recall if you call and every one comes she does too. unlike leo when we got him he used to just keep going about his business. so to the pic...

see it's moments like these why you did not give up! seems he has wormed his way into your life.... i should go up date a thread for sophie... today we had a crap afternoon and now a break thru. so maybe an updates in order. -
you obviously have no clue about buccan have you? (not in a rude way) google it ..... its a one horse town that if you blink you miss it. about a dozen houses (not really sure as it has been over 20years and not a really memorable place) i would guess less than 500 people. just googled wikapeadia says 326. i'm almost sure the post office is the shop servo and general store. the byb would have not had acess to a vet....i don't think the area even has one. nor would they have sold the pup for a huge amount. in the bush is the unsold ones would be disposed of.
