From the ANKC code of ethics: Breeding 11. A member shall breed primarily for the purpose of improving the quality and / or working ability of the breed in accordance with the breed standard, and not specifically for the pet or commercial market. So, if a member is breeding cross-bred dogs, they are specifically for the pet market. (Unless there's another market for cross-breeds that I'm unaware of???) That would make them in breech of the code of ethics, therefore reportable to their member body. If you know of someone doing this, report them.

Weren't you meant to be poking them awake for photos??? Good to see you're safe bulldust ;)

Because they're not a regulatory body. They cannot act outside of their function. They're not copping out. People can't just create enforcement powers out of thin air. The ANKC is a co-ordinating body. Not a government empowered regulator of the public's activities. "Australian National Kennel Council has developed co-operation between the 8 Controlling Bodies and made a large contribution towards improving dog showing, breeding and other canine activities in Australia" See their website for full details of what they actually are: http://www.ankc.org.au/default.aspx If you have a read of "history" it might make things a little clearer. There isn't always someone else to blame or to take charge. Sometime we need to stand up and say - "that person is a jerk, I don't agree with what they are doing and will not participate, so I will promote others to hopefully do the same". People in our society are quick to point a finger and say "someone" should fix that. Yet we are just as likely to turn around and complain about some other infringement of our privacy or civil liberties. Police state or not? Personal responsibilty or not? There are arguments for both, it's not an easy issue. Thanks for saying it better than I could. Jaxx's buddy, if you don't like the way things are run, what are you doing about it??? (Besides complaining on an internet forum)

Yes. I did that this morning.

wow - code of ethics in SA says that a registered breeder can not sell to pet shops at all. How come it is different in NSW? i will check out the ankc and sa dogs but i was sure it had something to do with the ankc not being able to restrict trade so the ruke was that registered breeders could only sell to PIAA pet shops eta do you have a link to the SA code of ethics please? yep - on the dogssa website - download the rule book - page 41 - code of ethics for all SACA members http://www.dogssa.com.au/Website/index.php?id=10&level=2 11. I shall not sell any dog to commercial dog wholesalers, retail pet dealers, or directly or indirectly to allow a dog to be given as a prize or donation in a contest or any kind. thank you for that. i will look at the ankc rules eta here are the ankc regulations from here http://www.ankc.org.au/Regulations-1.aspx 26. A member shall not: .1 Sell or dispose of a dog to a commercial pet wholesaler or retail pet shop unless they are accredited by the Pet Industry Association of Australia Limited (PIAA). .2 Allow a dog owned by that member to be given as a prize or donation or to be auctioned. i do not believe dogssa can restrict a breeders trade and if they can then the ankc should be following their lead They can't. If someone were to fight the rule, it would have to be changed. So far, no-one's fought it. so it stays.

There's been a few threads here about Petfood 24/7, none good I ordered two crates from Topbuy (late last year), they arrived in a few days, unheard of in Darwin Maybe they haven't been shipped due to having to go through Brisbane? I'd email them and check.

Dog Only Eats Dry Food When I Sit And Watch Him?
D & D replied to GABBA's topic in General Dog Discussion
Maybe he doesn't really like it but thinks that you may eat it before him if you're there watching him??? I had a dog who would empty her bowl whenever a certain friend came over..............he was a police dog handler. She never did it with anyone else. The only thing we could figure was that she thought he'd steal her food No idea, really. -
Hi all, As we know, Queensland has been hit by devastating floods. Dogs Qld are fundraising for their members and Dogs NT (NACA) will be doing their bit to help. There will be a donation tin in the office, it's not there yet (it's in my car ), but please donate when it gets there. I have made a number of dog coats to sell. All money from these sales will go to The Dogs Qld fundraiser. I will have some coats at the DLKC show on the 29th. Come and check them out. If there's nothing there that suits, let me know and I'll do my best to make something that does. Coats will be available to buy at the NACA show on the 5th of Feb. Both shows will be at the Greyhound area, next to the showgrounds. Yeah, Darwin doesn't get cold. Some of us travel 'down south' with our dogs, it's bloody freezing Buy a coat as a gift to a southern friend who doesn't get to enjoy our weather Some sample photos I have made them in smaller sizes, but I only have plus-sized models And for those who don't know me...............I'll be the one with an excited Dane boy............we tend to stand out in a crowd

from memory think I entered about 10, current, old ,and deceased ones and even my parrot was entered God, just looked at the Vic Gr 7 List and I entered 23!!!!!!!!!! :D :D Well done

I have two Danes. Both had hiccups a lot as pups. The first one freaked me out a little. Checked with her breeder and it's a common thing. Sure enough, the second one had hiccups lots too. They both grew out of them.
-
Both of mine will waltz in uninvited, even if I don't want them there

Thanks for the links, I've looked up a couple of dogs Is there a link available for Group 8 (was that what they called the 'mixed marriage' group?)? I can't find one and would love to look up my bridge dog.

It's a way to raise funds for those in need, in a uniquely doggy way From memory, it cost $10 to enter a dog in the Vic one. All the names of the dogs were placed in a calalogue and that was posted to all state offices, it was also available to view on line. There are no prizes, no BIS, just a group of like-minded people gathering together to raise funds for their doggy friends. I entered my dog, and I have looked her name up in the 'catalogue'. There was a section for 'progeny of mixed marriages' (or something similar), so you can enter mutts, too. As it was a 'virtual' show, dogs who have left us could also enter (I entered a gone but not forgotten dog, as well). The Vic catalogue was great, there were dogs from around the world. It's a fantastic idea, I'll be supporting this one.

I don't find Dogs Qld are being discriminatory or elitist at all. They are collecting donations to help their members. These are the people who have paid their membership, attended events and kept Dogs Qld running. Good on them for helping their members. If I had family in the area, my money would go straight to them. Would you consider this elitist? My chosen breed is Great Danes. If I were to help a Dane owner before another dog owner, would this be elitist? :D Eh, everyone has the right to donate to whomever they wish, I know where I choose to donate.

I don't think it's so much 'showering with your dog' as it is 'washing the dog in the shower'. In my case, I've washed both dogs in the shower (and yes, learnt to do them seperately ). Both my dogs love the shower, I don't see it as weird or shocking BTW: they were washed on the weekend.............outside under the hose. I'm lucky that they love that, too

What details of the dogs registered on your registry are used? (Kennel name, registration number, microchip number, etc.) My pedigree certificates state that "This certificate remains the property of the issuing body............" Would that not make all the information on the certificate their property, too?
