Latest News On Syringomyelia In Cavalier King Charles Spaniels.
D & D replied to bet hargreaves's topic in In The News
Er, I'm one of those people who show my dogs without breeding them. We do exist. I titled my girl and had her desexed about a month later. She is now back in the show ring and has her first challenge certificate toward her neuter title. Times have changed! I'm still new to showing (2 years), but there has always been a neuter class at Darwin shows (since I started). My dogs are in Group 7 and our biggest class is now neuter. -
It's not just them and the puppy who will suffer. I'd be more inclined to think of the breeder, who has hopefully put their heart and soul into bringing this puppy into the world. It would be heartbreaking for them to realise later on what a bad decision they've made in puppy buyers. I'd like to think I'd warn the breeder, but I've fortunately never been in your position. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Fantastic news :D Here's hoping the rest of their recovery is smooth sailing. s to you and the dogs

I did this with my Dane, I also added a homebrand pad. It worked a treat, especially overnight. Although, undies didn't quite fit her, so I gathered the excess above her back and held them together with a safety pin.........................she looked a treat :D

Darwin Obedience Dog Club runs from basic to trialling classes. Held Monday nights at the showgrounds, but they close for December and January. They also do agility (once you pass grade 2) every second Wednesday. Agility starts with 'baby' equipment, so no huge jumps and stuff. No flyball up here.....................but we welcome new people who would like to start it ;)

Guessing you have dobes? I have two Great Danes, so similar coat types. My dogs shed all year round, but it's nothing like a southern winter to summer shed, and their coats are always fairly thin. I also show my dogs and have friends with thick double coated dogs (the coats are thick, not the dogs ). Their coats never get as thick as the coats of their southern counterparts, but they shed all year round. Woo hoo, another dog person coming to Darwin

Oh, how heartbreaking. :D Fingers crossed for a miracle for you and your dogs. Thoughts are with you

Hi Kitteh, I had a dog who suffered from pancreatitis many years ago. Her diet after this maily consisted of Eukanuba low residue (or Royal canin? Can't remember exactly). As a treat, she would get some tinned food of the same type. I got her blood tested every three to six months (Amylase and Lipase). Her levels were too high to have raw meat or bones. My suggestion would be to check with your vet and maybe get blood tested. It's better to be safe than sorry My dog (RIP) lived quite happily, on what I thought was a boring diet, for another two and a half years (her initial attack was at age 13). Good luck with your girl.

Ooooh, looking forward to what it may be I haven't posted much, but still drop in for updates. Good to see you're getting better. Still thinking of you and sending healing vibes and happy thoughts. I agree on the book idea. After reading your posts, it would be a cracker! Put me on the list for one ETA: Hope your computer is there soon. -

I had a rescue dog who was left with one ovary after her spey. Long story, but the vets couldn't find it during desexing. She had her first 'season', swollen vulva, just no dripping (but she was a cow during it). She had to go back under for them to remove it later. Ideally, I would have preferred her second ovary to be taken out at the same time as her first, and only have one surgery. BTW, I had no choice in vets with her, now I do

Why Do People Want To Breed Their Pet Dog?
D & D replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have heard this one a lot and i dont understand it. My parents didnt breed a dog just for a bunch of pups so that i could experience it and i think i turned out fine. I dont understand the lesson these parents are hoping to teach there kids from this. I baffles me to be honest. Yeah, I hate this one too. My response to the last time I heard that went along the lines of, "Okay, take those children to the pound for their next euthanasia day. Then they can experience what happens to a lot of those puppies." Didn't go down too well -
Congratulations. I've just seen this thread. I live in a unit with a small yard and have two Great Danes. They both get regular walks, training, park romps and beach romps.

This act? http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/__data/assets/pd...of-practice.pdf There's a lot to read through. If inspectors want to get pedantic, they can.

Probably the same place as the second A

Not much good since I live in WA (see thread title.) I'd also advise contacting any or all breed clubs (no idea how many there are). Not sure if your new breeder needs to be in WA. I live in Darwin and have two Danes, both came from breeders in NSW. I'm yet to meet either breeder. The right pup for you may not be in the next town (so to speak). Good luck with your search

It's almost as fun as the Dog Dood thread in Health/Nutrition/Grooming :D

Yeah, so true.

Once again, I'm crying for a dog I've never met So sorry for your loss. Evie, I hope you've found Magnus and you catch more smurfs than you know what to do with.

What if the dog dies two days after it was sent to them? Or before it was ever used at stud? Also you gotta remember that I have never met the person and the dog will be 2000 km away. Why should I pay for someone else's negligence. I have never had a dog die from misadventure, because I take care. I would expect the same. Negligence and misadventure are two different things. Many DOL dog owners have lost a beloved pet through misadventure. A few recent housefires spring to mind. I would hardly call these owners negligent. Accidents happen, and all the 'taking care' in the world will not prevent this. Negligence is a whole other thing. Maybe a change of contract wording would help? Don't mean to sound pushy, but you did ask for opinions At the end of the day, they are your puppies and you need to be happy with where they go.
-
This is the first co-ownership contract I have ever seen, so I don't know what's common. The death by misadventure part shocked me. What do you class as misadventure? Car accident? Dog attack? Snake bite? So, not only do you lose your beloved pet, you then have to pay his breeder $1000? Seems a bit harsh to me. I had a co-owned dog, the agreement was verbal. It was originally stated by the breeder that she would transfer him into my name after 12 months (as long as I was doing the right thing by him). He's now in my name.
