Actually I was thinking the same - my husband is part Maori and would like to retire back in NZ so I would be interested in the transport costs and the vaccinations for the dogs. :)BTW love your Kelpie may I ask who you got them from? Dogs and Cats have to be microchiped and upto date with vaccinations. Dogs have to be blood tested for heartworm and b#%@ (sorry dont know how to spell it) virus. That cost about $1,000 on top of transport costs and has to be done 10 days before flying. The vet said the rules were changing but they still need the tests. The blood tests get flown to Perth to be tested so there a bit of timing involved. Let me know if you want to know more.

It cost us $2,500 for 1 adult kelpie, 1 12 week kelpie and 1 cat. We got to keep the travel crates for the dogs. We used Jetpets and they were great. Cats dont have to have the blood tests that dogs do. The cat just was treated with Revolution 10 days before we left. Hope that helps.

We made it and Ruby, Kora and Horse have settled in. Customs at Auckland airport was a real pain. We had to march from one place to the next, it all took ages. Flights were delayed because of ash. It is so cold here at the moment we couldnt milk because of ice freezing everything at the dairy

is what my father said when I got the job there. Im going to work for a large corperation with 13 dairy farms and I will get every second weekend off (3 days in a row) so might get a life and go to some agility with my girl. :D Everything is falling into place but I see the volcano is still disrupting flights Cant control everything I guess.

I'm so sorry for your loss. We just got home from the vet, they didn't have a vet in, they mixed up the roster. So going back at 1pm. The vet nurse, did confirm it's a paralysis tick though. And she couldn't believe he picked one up this time of year. She was also stunned that he is showing no symptoms, when it has obviously been on him for several days. Fingers crossed he is just one very lucky boy, and he doesn't go downhill fast. Thanks. Ticks can be around anytime of the year and their toxidity can vary too, in our case the vet said that the ticks were very toxic and they had had quite a few bad cases. I reckon your boy will be good. Good luck

My Kelpie got a tick, we lived in a bad tick area. She was on Frontline fortnightly. The first symptom was wobbly in hind legs. I found the tick and removed it then took her to the vet. The vet treated her with antiserum and proban, said she wasnt too bad and to take her home. They said she would get worse before she got better, she got worse and she never got better. She died at the vets after we had taken her back in. i hate bloody ticks and am so pleased when we move to NZ there are no ticks, snakes etc etc. Keep a close eye on your dog and if in doupt get into the vet ASAP.

Help! My Dog Has Peed On People....
kelpiekaye replied to monique.c's topic in General Dog Discussion
Not all people love dogs and there are people that will give him a nasty boot up the backside for doing that, It would probably stop him peeing on people though, trees dont react. -
I agree with this. My OH pup is 12 weeks and sits, drops and shakes paw and I am impressed, 8 weeks is very impressive.

Thanks for the good luck wishes everyone. Im sure it will all go well and if there are any rough patches we will work it out but it is more stressful than I thought especaily the animal part. Was much easier when I came to Auss with my dog Bo. Now Ive got 2 dogs a cat and a bloke to take home :D

There are some real ass#%s out there. I was following a car in on a country road when a dog ran out from house. They could off slowed down but they speed up and hit it deliberatly and kept going. The dog was thrown into a power pole. I stopped and dog was dying. I went into house and notified owners. They said Yeah we be out in a moment. I went back out and sat with dog while it died and they still didnt come out. Sometimes you have to wonder about the mentality of some.......

My other half just said he would of had second thoughts before he paid $1,500 deposit, I think I might have too.

I have just got back from the vets with two dogs and one cat. They had to have their blood tests and treatments as they fly to NZ next week with Jetpets. I dont mind admitting this whole moving countries is way to stressful. God I hope it all goes smoothly. Wish us luck guys, pray that the volcano settles etc etc

Dont sound like he likes his OH much, but I know where hes coming from.

I doupt you will get off, but you can only try. Maybe they will let you pay the fine off in instalments.

Its the dogs herding instinct coming into play. My girl used to try and chase cars when I took her for a walk. I told her off, distracted her and sat in areas of heavy traffic till she got used to it. She stopped doing it. Channel the energy into something else more acceptable.

I agree with PF. Maybe you should wait until Oscar has been given his wings. I was thinking maybe a larger spaniel. What about a Brittany?

My town cat eats whole ones...just leaves the brains and ears...normally on the doorstep My cat catches and eats whole rabbits. On day I found the ears in my pantry

How Do You Restrain Your Dog In The Car?
kelpiekaye replied to anna's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had a head on car accident with two dogs in the car with me, a GSD in the back asleep behind my seat and a Kelpie asleep on floor in front on passengers side. They were both OK. Thats how they always traveled and it probably saved their lives and mine. Maybe you could teach your new pup to sleep on floor. I dont think a dog harness would save the dog but may stop the dog from flying around the car and killing someone. -
[i believe it is a given that a Dog Lover would be the likely person to visit a Dog Show, and as such is it likely that they may have their pet with them. Of course they need to be held accountable for the behaviour of their pet. And for that matter any children they bring along!! And what about husbands or partners? I took my husband (ex Husband now) to a dog show. A lady was grooming her Std Poodle. He laughed and said in a loud voice (much to my embarasment) "looks like a baboon". I explained to the lady it was his first show. She said "You should make it his last show" And it was
