  1. I had a 55kg male Rotty who had two crucaite ops on the same leg. He came good in the end. Good luck.
  2. We dont have any other dogs but get the odd working dog passing through property which is a worry. My girl is always with me or contained. If I let her have a heat I will have to be on my toes at all times......Thanks for advice
  3. Thanks. I think the same but dont want to ruin this girl cause she it great.
  4. I have a 5 month Kelpie Bitch. I do not wish to breed from her, how ever she is turning out to be a great worker on the farm. When is the best age to spay? Will it effect her working ability? My last Kelpie was spayed before her first heat and was a fairly laid back girl but I dont know if that was because she was spayed so young. Any advice would be great. Cheers Kaye
  5. I really feel for you and your new owners. What a terrible thing to go through. Good luck for the future.
  6. My first experience with kennel cough was working in boarding kennels quite a few years ago in NZ. Vaccines were available but it was not required to vaccinate to board dogs at that time. We had a dog that had recently been in quarantine from overseas, she developed a cough, then dogs in nieghbouring pens developed a cough, it soon went through the entire kennels, effecting the dogs to differing degrees. Some just coughed when excited or exersing, others got a bit snotty and coughed up flem, while others had no problems. I likened it to the common cold in humans. We had three week old German Shepherd puppies at the house that contracted KC which was scary, also old dogs seemed to get knocked around by it, however everyone got over it. It was a big learning curve for me. Vaccines do not work against all strains and if a new strain arrives outbreaks will occur, I believe. Bit like swine flu.
  7. A very important topic.I have just recently lost my kelpie Bo to a paralysis tick, I live in a tick prone area (Marlo, Vic) but had never encountered them before. I used frontline and checked her for ticks and despite vet care we still lost her. It is a devastating thing to happen to your dog so I advise everyone read tick imformation and be aware. I have got a pup ordered from a breeder and am terrified it could happen again. I think proban maybe the go if it is safe on pups. Has anyone tried Rose geraium, citronella and bayleaf mixed in water as a repellent? Cheers Kaye
