I have just booked my two 11month dogs, Ruby and Aussie and young cat, Horse in for desexing on thursday. Will be a nervous day. Wish me luck.

Looks like one I had once. What are they made of? Mine was plastic tubing with a artifical canvas. It didnt last long, but was great because it floated well.

Got my tunnel a couple of days ago. It is perfect for training, but will need to peg in down better as it blew across the paddock this morning while I was milking cows. Lucky the cows didnt see it, couldve been a stampede...................

I will be going through the same thing soon. I hope my girl is as good as your girl.. Its always a worrying thing. She will be back to her old self in no time.
-
Have you got your tunnel yet? I have ordered one, too impatient to wait and see if they are ok. Time will tell.............

My girl has a jumping up issue also so I will try and address it a bit more strictley than I have been. Cheers. Thanks for reply

Thanks for reply. I have done competive agility with a GSD who was a perfect angel I think you are right in that Ruby is focussing on me. I will try send her to a toy, sounds like a good idea. All dogs are different and I think Ruby will be not too bad at agility if I can focus her energy. Cheers

I have set up some low jumps, tyres and seesaw in my backyard. When I run my 11 month kelpie is so excited she jumps up on me and barks in between obstacles. She has usually been up up with me from 4.30 am getting the cows and helping during milking so its not lack of exercise. Any ideas on how to stop this without taking away her enthusiasim. Thanks in advance. Kaye

A Couple Of "household With Two Dogs" Questions ..
kelpiekaye replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
I think it takes more time having two dogs unless your partner gives the second dog its one on one. We have two dogs, I have Ruby who I spend a lot of individual time and OH has Aussie who he spends time with. They play with each other a lot too. I found it better when I recently left them at kennels as they kept each other company, But they can also be partners in crime if left to their own devices. It depends what you want from your dogs. I beleive to reach their full potential they need one on one time and to look at you as leader. -
Travelling With Your Dog - Safety Question
kelpiekaye replied to iggy mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
It would probably be safer in the back seat, but if you havnt got room the front seat will have to do. Nothing is 100% safe and you can only do your best. Dont know much about harnesses, saw some advertised at waggle.com.au that looked good. -
Travelling With Your Dog - Safety Question
kelpiekaye replied to iggy mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I once had a head on car accident with two dogs in the car. My kelpie was asleep on the floor in the front and my GSD was asleep behind my drivers seat. The car was a Honda civic and the back seats were folded down so the back was like a station wagon. Both dogs were fine, I think mainly because they were asleep and low, I didnt come out of it quite as well. How ever I had to put my GSD down three weeks later as she had bleeding in her lungs, it turned out she had a lung tumour and maybe the accident ruptured it. I think a air travel crate that is secured is probably the safest way to go. IMHO Dogs that behave well while traveling eg; lie down, quiet, probably have more chance to survive the unforseen than the alert sitting up busy dog, head out window type. -
Maybe the kid had a mental problem. You never know what issues other people have.

Awesome photos guys. Wish I could work out how to do the photo thing.

Proban works...as well as checking dog for ticks.

Symptoms Of A Sprung Toe?
kelpiekaye replied to woody2shoes's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My kelpie has a sprung toe. It sticks up and is very loose. I took her to a vet who said there was not much to be done and it may need to be amputated at some stage. I then took her to a greyhound chiropracter who said it would come ok in time. It wasnt the cause of the lameness as I thought, she has something in her toepad like glass or a thorn that hopefully we will be able to get out in the near future. You could try taping the toes together. Goodluck. -
If in a tick area always assume there will be ticks. My dog was on frontline plus and still got paralisis ticks and dispite immediate treatment from the vet we still lost her. Checking your dog a couple of times a day for ticks and using Proban are the only sure way of preventing ticks. I was so pleased to move out of a tick area as it is a constant worry, now its just the snakes on the river we live beside.

Best thing you can do to prevent problems later is keep your dog lean and dont over excersise. 10 weeks is probably a bit young to start swimming but is a great fun when dog is older. As the parents have good hip scores your pup should be good. Enjoy....

I agree with everyone else, put the socks away, but I once read in a book on Rottys (not that yours is a rotty) that they are great thieves and you have to be creative to solve problems. One of their suggestions was to set mouse traps, maybe a mouse trap inside a sock would give her a fright without hurting her, the down side is she may feel she has to kill that sock. Dont know never tried it. She looks like a bit of a character and Im sure she will grow out of it in time.

Today while driving around temporily confused, looking for a Boarding Kennel that im going to leave my dogs in for a week shortly, I stopped and asked directions from a girl walking. She told me to ask at "dog farm" just down the road. I drove up to what looked like large kennels and runs with a 8' iron fence around it and a lot of dog noise. I couldnt find anyone to talk to. What dogs I saw were poodle types and schnauzers. Dont know what to think. I will ask at the local pub next time I go and see if anyone knows I did find my Boarding Kennels in the end and they were great. Yep it is a puppy farm, I did a search on internet and found them. They have a 100 breeding dogs and were turned down to make it 300. You guys probably know all about them but I dont get of the farm much and didnt know about puppy farms until I joined DOL. The farm is near Heyfield.

Does Desexing Affect Drive?
kelpiekaye replied to Red Fox's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
That would be interesting to read. I once had a Rotty who was neutered at about two years, instead of being aggressive to just male dogs, he became aggressive to bitches as well. In saying that he didnt actually start fights but he certainly finished them.
