Sharon (secretary of DWDQ) was interviewed by the reporter on the day and they totally misquoted what she said, she was quite upset by this. The first sanctioned DWD competition was held at the Spectacular Petacular here in Brisbane 15th March 2009 it was run by Toowoomba Dog Obedience Club. That is why the reporter got confused when writing the article. What Bedazzled says is right, if want a decent story written right it and submit it. Although the article did make DWD sound a little frivolous anytime you get a 1/4 page story on page 2 of any newspaper it's gotta be good for the sport and besides it was my picture they used and I thought it was an awesome shot of me and my boy Chook

You say you've never been hospitalised with a snake bite but how many times have you been bitten and by what type of snakes?? I really enjoy watching the way you are so calm around the snakes you rescue and release.

As a DWD judge I would have no problem with this song, so go for it :D

Can you post a pic or send it privately for a criteque

Thanks Robyn it will be good to catch up :D

Ohhh good luck what routine are you doing?? Here is a link to the article that got put in the Toowoomba Chronicle. They have misinterpreted several things Sharon has said but it's still good PR for DWD, and I love the photo of me and Chook :D My link That is a lovely pic of you and Chook, even if the article is a bit patronising! We'll be trying to refine our freestyle to Village People - "You Can't Stop The Music" and if all goes to plan, our new HTM to a fun piece from the Aladdin Musical. that's great music hope you get some video and post it

We had our first competition of the year up here in QLD yesterday. Toowoomba Dog Obedience club ran the competition for us. Toowoomba is located approx 2hrs west of Brisbane so it was a far drive for us all, but well worth going. It was a lovely venue and a well run trial, thanks Toowoomba Dog Obedience Club. The results are from the K9freesstye forum for you all to see. My boys did very well, Chook 1st in HTM Novice and Styler 3rd in HTM Novice and 3rd in Freestyle starters and all quallies. Sally asking Kenzie to do one, let alone two "intermediate" routines is asking her to do more than run and agility course. An intermediate routine should be around the 3 minute mark and contain many demanding move ie twists, turns, possible jumps and tricks which challenge the dog, you and your dog should show control in all aspects of the routine. How often do you see 3-4 minute agility courses? As you say Kenzie has been crated and is "bored out of her brain" so given Kenzie's high drive she will not do things in a controlled manner she will be jumping out of her skin to run and do things, so the risks of her injurying herself again would far outway the idea that she will be fit and strong enough to perform. DWD is a demanding sport and should be taken seriously with the well being of the dog should becoming first. A specialist can adivse you but I believe you should be the one to say "yes" or "no" my dog is not 100% fit enough to compete. You wrote on the 7th January (sorry don't know how to do multiple quotes) that you are concerned about the floor and that Ness is a long way off trialling and that she can't manage a swim yet, there seems to be more reasons why NOT to do your routines than there are to do them. My dogs health and fitness come way before any performance and I would like to think that the judges would prefer her not to perform than run the risk of her hurting herself. Just email them back and say sorry my dog is still recoverying from an ongoing injury and isn't fit enough to perform, I don't see what the big deal is. They still have another 7 routiines to judge.

I don't know why you even considered doing anything with Kenz, the welfare of your dog should always come first. The creed upon which this sport was started is, "Always treat the dog with respect and Never put the dog in harm's way".

Vet Fees (surgery Extras) - Blood Tests And Iv Fluids (optional)
BC4ME replied to dammit's topic in General Dog Discussion
 Well said  There is one piece of advice that I was given when I first became a vet nurse and I now pass that information onto people who want to become vets/nurses... and that is "Not everyone will look after their pets the same way you look after your own". There are many days when I go home and give my pets a cuddle and tell them how lucky they are to be living with me. I maybe becoming cynical these days but the lead up to Christmas is always a difficult time in the animal industry and last year was one of the worst. People need to understand that pets are for a lifetime, this means they will need veterinary care and it's not just a way of wasting your money. By putting a little away each week or getting pet insurance helps when unexpected expenses arise. Try putting your $2 coins in a coke can, when the can is full you will have around $500. You won't miss your $2 coins but it will hopefully help save your pet one day. -

I'm going to put my flame suit on her but here goes.... I get sick and tired of reading where people only feed raw, barf, holistic foods etc, or do chiropractic, physio or hydrotherapy, spend money on fancy bedding or flashy collar and leads, toys etc all for the betterment of their dogs. People seem to do whatever they can to make their pets more comfortable or look after their well being better these days and I have no problem with these things..... But when it comes to doing pre-operative bloods and fluid therapy during surgery which would make it an easier for your pet, the vets and nurses whom you are entrusting the life of your pet to, by knowing how their organs which are processing the anaesthetics are working, having an easier and quicker wake up for your pet. People often say, "oh she'll be right she doesn't need it". How do you know your pet doesn't need it? Everytime you or your pets go under an anaesthetic there are risks so why not minimise them by doing all you can. Your doctor would not let you nor would you want to have surgery without these things so why if you do everything else for your pet would you not want what is best for your pets during surgery? Next time you buy something that you think your dog "needs" think about putting that money aside for your dogs next surgery instead. It could save his/her life. -
Remember the wonderful times you have had when you give Zedley his wings, this may not feel right at the time but Zedley will want you to remember the good times you've had with him. Hugs to you Loraine.

My goal for 2012 is just to stay focused on having fun by doing this everything else will follow. Life is too fragile to be taken seriously, enjoy every moment and be thankful for what we have. ;)

Have you thought of setting up a vidoe camera when you leave to see what how he is escaping??

Congrats to you and your friend Meg. I love how dogs and people of all ages are capable of doing this sport. We have a couple of older dogs (13 1/2yrs & 12yrs I think) competing in advance level here in QLD ..... GO THE OLDIES.
