I am so shocked and saddened to hear of this . I don't really post on here but I read almost everyday and I have really enjoyed Jed's posts and found them very informative. Good on the MDBA for helping out. I don't have much to give but will endeavor to get to the bank this arvo to donate. R.I.P to those poor dogs that crossed the bridge. Get well soon Jed! Edited to say that I am on the Sunshine Coast (at Caloundra) and if I can help out in some way I would be more than happy to. -
I just saw it on the today show. ;) I do hope the issue with the dogs gets sorted out though. The owner should not be letting them roam.

7.30 Report Abc To Do Expose On Dd Puppy Farms
sch18490 replied to lappiemum's topic in General Dog Discussion
I completely agree about Banksia Park, Mystiqview. That guy just left me shaking my head. An ethical puppy farm that has 300 breeding females and breeds oodles and other crosses? Not likely. I too was surprised by Steve Austin's comments. I had read a lot of good things about him prior to this. Though overall I think it was a good report and has hopefully made the public a bit more aware of puppy farming. I would have liked to have seen that too. -
Poor dogs and poor you. I would not be able to restrain myself.

DOL has definitely influenced my decision about where to get my next (first) dog. I was very close to going down to the pet shop and buying a schnauzer x poodle when I stumbled across this forum via google. It made me realise that I wasn't ready for a dog yet, and I have spent nearly 12 months researching on here (mainly silently), on other websites, and in books. My next dog will be a pup from an ANKC registered breeder, most likely also listed on DOL. I am so glad I found DOL, the information on here has taught me so much. I don't know where I'd be without it! Edited For Spelling

Blind Man In Coma After His Guide Dog Attacked
sch18490 replied to Baby Dragon's topic in In The News
That poor man and his dog. :D I hope he recovers. Hope his guide dog is all right too. If the poor thing can't work again that is so much money and time down the drain. That behaviour of that woman is just disgusting. I hope they can track her down and get some justice for this man and his dog. -

What size crate (roughly) is best for a Cavalier. I'm looking at a extra small crate and the caption reads: "Would fit VERY SMALL dogs such as: Chiuhuahuas, Pomeranians etc. 50cm x 35cm x 35cm" But I'm wondering if that would be a bit too squishy for a Cavalier (since they are a bit bigger then something like a Chiuhuahua)? The next size up is small: "Would fit SMALL dogs such as: Boxer, Shetie, Border Collie etc. 60cm x 42cm x 42cm" But that sounds to big, especially when trying to crate train a puppy. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks! The Royal Canin sounds good, but I'll have chat to my breeder to find out what they use.

I've been checking out different diets for dogs and I was wondering, are Cavalier's better suited to particular diet such as a kibble diet or a prey model diet? Or does it not really make a difference? ETA: I forgot to say thank you to those who answered my other questions... It's very much appreciated!

Okay, I have a couple of questions (but I'll probably think of more!). How much do they shed? I've read in a couple of places that Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are more predisposed to Diabetes Mellitus than other breeds? Is this correct and how prevalent is it? Is there much difference in temperament between Males and Females? Do you need a particular type of brush to maintain the long coat? Do they bark a lot? I've heard the ears are tricky to look after. How often do they need to be cleaned and how do you clean them? Thanks, and I'm sorry if any of them are stupid!
