  1. Leila still hasnt recovered fully- been back to the vet once since just as she finished her course of antibiotics as the gland in her neck was still up. But tonight I got home and her stomach was all distended. I rushed her to Murdoch Uni emergency vet and they are keeping her for tests. Just waiting now...
  2. Awww...I was really happy with my GSP paw, and now you come and put up an amazing photo Bec. As usual, your photos are great!
  3. Penelope ('Nellie") the cat Leila loving the backyard at our new house. I think I need to do a bit more cropping on this one - her body looks a bit weird maybe? The flowering trees in our new backyard
  4. I have been meaning to do this for ages, I loaded them on to flikr then I got sick, then we got a new house, then the dog got sick. Now I have finally found the time! I'm still very much leaning but I think I'm improving!! Wildflowers (and things) in Kings Park. Taken when I went with Belgian.blue a few weeks ago. snuggle pot and cuddlepie:
  5. I'll take your cute belgian paw and raise you a GSP paw!
  6. Very happy with it and now feed it to the cat as well (cat variety). Both animals go crazy for it and are doing well so I'm happy. Eagle Pack was my other selection but I like that Nutro is made in Aus.
  7. A gland. She checked all the other gland locations and none were enlarged. It is still up 4 days later. I've got Jarrah honey - cant get manuka over here (WA). She loves honey and will happily lick it off the spoon! We have noticed she isnt as crazy as she usually is and isnt too interested in getting out of bed in the morning. I suppose it is similar to the flu I had a couple of weeks ago and it will just run its course, with the best we can do is manage the symptoms.
  8. It's kennel cough apparently! Sorry it took me a few days to get back on with the diagnosis. OH took her to the vet so it is second hand info... no scratch on eyes or blocked ducts - was tested with a green dye which OH was very impressed with :p She has got eye drops and the weeping has improved already. Although she hasnt been coughing regulary, the vet tested her throat and it made her cough (again OH was impressed!) and she has inflamed tonsils. She wasnt picky with her food up until she heard the vet say she should be on soft foods for a few days and now turns her nose up at buscuits but will happily eat soggy weetbix and honey! She is still more than happy with a chicken wing. She always has had a sweet tooth! She got a short course of antibiotics (5 days) but I'm not sure how necessary they really were. The vet commented that she had great eyes (even though they were gunky), great teeth and strong ACLs but is too skinny! I'm quite happy with her weight now though although a couple of weeks ago she was too skinny. And the vet is quite young and attractive so I think OH might volunteering to take Leila back if necessary! Boys
  9. Thanks for the ideas. I actually dont know if it is a lymph node - probably should have said gland...I'll change the title The more I think about it, it could also be grass seed. But allergies seem to be highly likely - especially with the reverse sneezing going on and weepy eyes. The lump is quite hard, round and definately under the surface - not attached to the skin. It isnt causing her any discomfort as we were prodding around and playing with it last night after I found it. I do trust the vet, its just I always forget details to tell them. I also like to be informed and be able to ask questions like "why would you or why would you not do this?" Its the scientist in me!
  10. That is interesting. We also use Revolution on Leila and the cat on the 15th of every month. I might stretch it out a little....and it will also save us a little bit of money! It concerns me a bit about applying chemicals so regularly.
  11. Last night I noticed that Leila (19 month old GSP) has a lump beneath her jaw on one side. It has a diameter about the size of a 5 c piece. A search couldnt find any others, only the one. I have made an appointment to take her to the vet tomorrow but wondering what tests we should do. I'm sure they will recommend what ever is needed but I dont want anything missed out. She has no change in activity levels (still crazy!), no change in appetite (always wanting food!), no change in condition except to put on a bit of weight over the last week or two because I added some mince. She is regularly wormed (last 2 weeks ago) and revolution each month. The only other thing we have noticed is she has had weepy eyes on and off for the last 3 or 4 weeks - just when I start to think I should take her to get it checked out it clears up! I have just also remembered she has been reverse sneezing a bit over the last couple of days too. Her diet consists of: - Nutro Lamb (around 3 cups daily) - Lamb neck - daily - Chicken wings – daily - Carrot – regularly - Pumpkin - Sardines in oil – every couple of weeks (last on Sunday) - Whole raw egg - maybe once a week - Peanut butter, philly in kong once of twice a week - cheese or chunkers as training treat The only place different she has been is at our new house on sunday and she spent the day running around in long grass and then playing on freshly cut lawn. I'm not panick but want to ensure I give the correct info to the vet and get the tests done which are needed - i always find I walk out and remember all sorts of things I maybe should have told them!
  12. We had the same problem on Advance but have been fine since changing to Nutro and have just had this conversation in the GSP thread with a number of people having the same problems. Although other people have not had the same issues.

  14. Strauss is going very cheaply at the moment - I got home yesterday and all the dogs were soaked - I said hello from a distance and watched what was happening - he would pick up a retrieving bumper and take off around the back yard doing zoomies and the others, including the old girl would chase him. I can add rain to the things that don't bother him ;) As for taking things - yep I lost my hairbrush, shampoo and a towel from the bathroom this morning - blink and they were gone - bless him NOT. The one downside to him getting bigger is that he now has a bigger reach :D Or we could put him somewhere with Leila and they could just exhaust each other! Welcome to my world! Leila has only just stopped stealing things off the kitchen bench (hopefully!) - she has an enormous reach!!
  15. I dont have anything that would meet the criteria for this months challenge but I did take this today which I thought might go well for valleyCBR's comment earlier on in the month. I'm not so sure about the quality of the photo or if I took it on the right settings but I reckon the composition is pretty good. Unfortunately I probably cant take the credit, that should go to the people at Kings Park for their planting skills!
  16. Get off the couch!!!! NOW! NO way, I'm having too much fun.
  17. I'm just around the corner and have a new canon too... Leila is sick of me taking photos of her! I had to resort to tomatos on sunday! I'm also looking for somewhere close to Vic Park that does a course if you are interested. Ahhh I forgot you are my neighbour!! I did a lot of tomato shooting with my old Pentax. Yes, I'm itching to find a photography course nearby so I will defiantly come with you. I'm yet to start looking as I don't know where to start. We are so going out on a photo shoot What do you think about heading to Queens Gardens or maybe Kings Park? We went to a wedding at Queens Gardens a few weeks ago and there wasnt that much to take photos of - Kings Park would be good though and I'm free this weekend. I found a 6 week course at thornlie tafe but we missed term 3 Camera house in Carousel does a 4 week course but I'm not sure about it, the guy was a bit too much of a salesman.

  19. Could he be cold? Leila is 18 months old now and still wakes up sometimes at night (she is crated). she is also not in our bedroom. I have figured out that she either needs to go to the toilet, is cold (not so much now she has a coat and a puppy wheat bag with the crate in a warm spot) or she has messed up her blankets and isnt comfortable!!! This happened last weekend - I had to get up so she could go to the toilet at 1am, then she was crying again at 2 - she refused to go outside because it was too cold when I went to put her back in the crate I noticed one of her blankets was all scrunched up - I fixed it, she climbed in and slept though until 8:30!! It still must be a bit scary for a little puppy to wake up alone though.
  20. I second this! I'm sure it drives the neighbours nuts because it makes such a racket on the concrete!
  21. Definately a GSP vote from me! But....don't you mean a german shorthaired "nutter"!!! We are totally biased because we love our crazy monster who has been described by junior footballers as "on speed" (where do 12 year olds get this stuff from and how do they know what that means???). And She is anything but reserved, She loves people and other dogs. She is super energetic but happily spends most the day sleeping - either inside, in her kennel or in a sunny spot. And because everyone else is posting pictures - Sorry....couldnt help myself but to get carried away! Edited to add - she isnt too stressy but does get a bit vocal including whineing a bit but I wouldnt call her necessarily "needy". Although she is just a little spoilt
  22. I just got a 450D from JB. Push them a little and they will drop their price a fair bit - we price matched an internet price. Harvey Norman didnt want to know us unless we were paying full price - we walked out! I would have loved the 550D but it was a tad more than I was wanting to spend (nearly $500). We got the 450D twin IS lenses for $1075 with a 4 Gig SD card and a backpack (retail price $125) last Saturday. I really hate playing the price game, luckily OH doesnt mind it!
  23. Yep, Leila too after bones of any kind. OH pointed it out just the other day after he noticed Leila rubbing her face on our cream doona cover!!
  24. We would definately be in and probably be down there anyway except we are in melbourne and dont get back until the evening Leila is better at the beach (eg, less likely to bugger off!)...although still crazy! She is having a GSP week instead.
