To All You Fellow Dog Owners - Do You Also Own A Cat?
Kayann replied to Abigail's topic in General Dog Discussion
One birman and one burmese kitten we just got, plus two ridges. The Ridges are not so sure of the burmese kitten and vice versa, but the Birman and Ridges are quite happy to go exist together and share space. -
Hi, When the dogs are outside with us, the mozzies are all over them. Is there anything I can buy to put on them, or spray around them so that the mozzies don't bite them. They are both Ridgebacks, 6 years old. Thanks in advance. Kath

I had this experience recently and responded by grabbing my two and asking here where the dog was and that I had better get my two babies away for it as well.. so we both better run. The women looked at me like I was mad but I did chuckle all the way to the car. Can solve idiotism!

Hi, How are they coping with the colder weather in Yarra Valley today? I bet the Camels and riders are at least happy to be out of the humidity of Queensland and the storms yesterday. We had a camel when we lived in Queensland but she ate EVERYTHING, was a real issue as she chewed the trees and shrubs, bark off the fence posts. I think maybe she was bored. Kath

So cute. I saw them months ago before the baby was born, but this baby makes me want to go next weekend to see them again.

Alternative idea, many of the horse movers do a weekly run out to Roma and back to Brisbane. You might be able to get them to pick the puppy up for you if you ask. We have used Idaho horse transport to get mares from Miles, three days run back into Brisbane with two stops, one in Dalby and one in Greenbank in Brisbane. I lived in this area of Darling downs most of my life and the people are very flexible with helping you out.

We got out two Ridgeback girls together 6 years ago now, our breeder was only just new to breeding and didn't warn us about them bonding to each other. It has been a continued struggle with them for training, behaviour, due to this fact. I wish I had know about DOL them so that we had of had the chance to make different choices. We had two 2 year old Burmese when we got the dogs. They trained the dogs from day one to be cat friendly and the dogs have always been so. I would highly recommend that order from our experience. The dogs are big powerful girls but both are very submissive to the cats. Maybe get two kittens and one puppy? But get the kittens first, then the puppy later on? Two kittens together is no problem and is even a good idea as the kittens can entertain each other. Kath

Hi, If dogs are mammals like people, don't they get really hungry only having one meal a day? When I feed our cat in the morning, both dogs look at me like they are starving. They can have two smaller meals spilt between morning and night easily, but is it that they are hungry, or just always begging for food? Don't they get hungry for three meals a day like a person does?

Purebred Is Best But What About Other Pets?
Kayann replied to Wilderblu's topic in General Dog Discussion
Two Pure bred Ridgebacks here One Pure bred Birman cat . I bred her myself while a registered breeder with the QFA. She cost me $20,000 to get that one kitten from imported parents. Then due to my health I had to give up breeding so I desexed her and she is now sitting on my bed. One Shire horse. Fully imported mare from England. Also an adored pet. All the cross breds in this house are the people... -
so funny. looks like he had a great time.

Depends where you live but we had them all the time in our yard in Samford in Queensland, basically I kept the dogs inside for the evening and the snake was gone by morning. If you have them in your area they will always be around but you can ring your National Parks and wild life and they will put you in touch with someone to remove it at your cost if you prefer. But if you have them in your area in large numbers they will often just come back. We had a marsh beside the house yard and they just went back into the marsh by themselves. Kath

Yes me. Was an exciting afternoon... we were evacuated but it is all under control now. Thankfully. That was our first fire after moving from Queensland as we do not have any family in Victoria to go to with our Dogs, so we just kept them in our car with the cat. We have tried Md Pacers but Steve has not been able to find us a buddy it seems. I am not sure what happens for the future but we have survived this one. Kayann

One Way Of Teaching Kids To Be Scared Of Dogs..

The mother won't think it so funny if her child runs off into a moving car. Stupid thing to teach your child. -
A while ago I started training our two dogs in basic training. I have been using liver treats broken up as training treats, but they both seem to be really getting quite fat now and my Vet suggested they need to loose some weight. He said I can train with carrots, but both girls will not eat them and look to me for the real treat. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for non fattening treats. I try to do at least 1 hour training for each dog twice a day, but have to treat the other dog for not barking at the same time, so both get quite alot of treats. Kayann
